Aww bless, professional footballers may have to play 2 games in a week for a while, how will they manage

Poor little sweethearts, I hope they wrap up nice and warm in the meantime, I'd hate for the delicate little souls to catch a chill between matches :tumbleweed:

I'll never understand this attitude. Nobody is saying that they CAN'T do it, but it's common fucking sense that if a team of players has one match a week for a month, and another team has two matches a week for a month, the latter are going to be less effective than the former at the end of it, because they won't have had as much rest.

Second time this week they've let fans from the North west travel the length of the country before calling the game off as well.

Didnt we once play two games in two days over christmas once, sometime in the early -mid 90`s,our second game was swindon away.i remember aidy littlejohn playing.

There was a time which some of us can remember when teams routinely played back to back games on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

And how about this for the Blades in 1912/13:
Dec 25th, 26th, 28th, 30th & Jan 1st. That's five games in 8 days. Quite typical of the period.

The only space they've got is between the Bradford & Bristol games.

In years gone by, didn't teams use to play on Christmas Day and Boxing Day?

I think they were reverse fixtures as well!

Yes. I guess the difference is that that's how the fixtures were scheduled from the start of the season.

In the early 1970s it was quite common for a club to play in three matches during the Easter weekend (Good Friday or Easter Saturday and then Easter Monday and Tuesday

Yep.

Can't remember who it was from memory but there was once a couple of back to back matches that went something like:

Dec 25 - Charlton 13-2 Bristol City
Dec 26 - Bristol City 7-1 Charlton
