Are we all converging on a muster point, then? Someone call it, eh? Time? Location?

Reminds me of Oxford Utd in the nineties with the old Viewpoints lot. It fucking PISSED down but we won away ....

Memorable day. First time I put faces to names off Suissa, got soaked, there was a real chance of having branches breaking off trees onto the crowd. Andy Goram playing in tights and first away win for a year.

There was a great Green Un that arrived on my doormat on the Tuesday with a photo of the away end at the Manor Ground with everyone drenched but happy. Didn'Kat score that day in a 2-1 win?

I've taken the part time option and won't be there. In the absence of myself, Sheff de party and SwissBlade it's over to you lot to make sure you colonise a corner of the local real ale boozer and introduce all the friendly locals to United songs. Don't rely on Ollessendro or moDtheGod either, they'll probably disappear straight after the game.

I'll be at Scunthorpe and Hartlepool though if any other LBs are going: the Rutland is the pre-match boozer of choice.

great night.

I'm a rambler...

I'm taking a stance and refusing to go to this one on the grounds of the fact that Sheff de party won't be going and therefore there won't be a random female blonde aussie housemate for us to drunkenly letch over and teach Blades songs to...

I will however be attending such matches as Tranmere (home) and Scunny (home) before disappearing back to Switzerland...

Il make sure she's available for Stevenage away dont worry Swiss!

Me and me dad thinking of going to this one. Can we book over phone with united or will there be tickets for away end on day? cheers

Anyone staying around for a few beers in Crawley afterwards??

He did, but it was 2-0 not 2-1.

I was amazed that game was completed. It was so wet we were given vouchers on the gate ("In case it gets abandoned") and the gents' toilets was like the black hole of Calcutta at half time, with dozens of Blades trying to take shelter...worth it for the first away win in a year, though.

Not sure at the moment mate. Most probably, but will have to see how much christmas shit i get sorted between now and then....

i cant make this one m8, but i hope to see your good self again soon. thinking abt going Bournemouth and definitely Stevenage.

Me, BladeInThatcham and moDtheGod are guin. We'll be drinking in either the Brewery Shades or Swan (or both). Never been to Crawley before, but these pubs are in the real ale guide. Reckon I'll stay around for a few Christmas ales afterwards. Trains back to London are regular and run pretty late (til gone 11). I'll be getting on the train at Clapham Junction. Probably heading down fairly early-ish (10/11) to meet Thatcham.

Mixed bag of responses gentlemen, fully understand that this one isn't gonna be top of everyones priorities with christmas on the horizon.
Not to worry, i'm sure we'll all get to meet up very soon for "I'm a Rambler - Part 2".

Hi All,

Just to inform you that you will be made very welcome at the Half Moon pub both before and after the game - its about a 3 minute walk from the ground on the old Brighton Road - large multi screen TV's with live lunch time football - Wigan v Arsenal - Food also available as well as Real Ale and the usual Lagers and Ciders -

Really looking forward to this game - this fixture shows how far we have come in the past two seasons, it is strange, it still feels playing teams like you are Cup matches not League, especially League 1 - don't know what the pitch will play like on saturday - just had some renovation works completed in the last week. Hopefully it won't cut up as it has been recently.

We could even have brother against brother in this game, the McFadzean's - but I don't think Kyle will play due to illness for us on Saturday

Have a good and safe journey down.

Alain

We'll be drinking in either the Brewery Shades or Swan (or both). .
Brewery Shades - watch your pockets
Swan - bring your bikers jacket
(Can't see there being any trouble in any pub but if it's going to happen it will be in the Brewery Shades)

Home game for me. :) Can't really recommend any pubs - Crawley makes Rotherham look like the Cannes film festival. I'll probably be in the White Hart (town centre) before and afterwards

What a load of rubbish!! All Blades fans are welcome to drink in Redz at the ground and judge for yourselves rather than taking other people's word for what Crawley is like.

Trouble in the Brewery Shades dont make me laugh..It is the only pub in Crawley High Street that dos'nt have to have doormen weekends..Anyway getting back to why im here..The best pubs in Crawley for real ales are the Brewery Shades and the Swan for those of you bringing children they are welcome in both these pubs..The Shades would be your best bet for food if you are looking for something rather than a pub set menu..Next up we have the White Hart again not a bad pub but children only allowed in the resturant area.Across the road there is the Jubilee Oak as this is a Wetherspoons pub you get what you pay for (warm ale and fizzy lager) To the right of the Shades there is the Punch Bowl again a family friendly pub but no real ales..Taxi's are £4 from the center to Broadfield Stadium but for those of you walking from the town up Brighton Road towards the ground you come across the Railway about the cheapest pub in Crawley but again no good for real ale..Finally the pub nearest the ground the Halfmoon..Not my cup of tea i find it to expensive and being crowded takes a good 20 minutes to get served and if you want feeding forget it waited something like half hour last time i ate there..Within the ground complex there is Redz bar where all pints are £3 altough plastics make the ale taste diffrent its not bad, there is also a bottle bar serving Magners ect save waiting at the main bar.
So my recomendations are
(1) Brewery Shades
(2) The Swan
(3)The White Hart.
Have a safe trip and please judge our town after you have visited not by reading what has been written..

Titch..

From the Stir:
"United’s approach against Town could be influenced by news the hosts are carrying out emergency repair work to the playing surface at Broadfield with 40 tonnes of sand set to be laid on the pitch this week."

Beach volleyball anyone?

It's a classic in the making. A recreation of the North African campaign, sans Monty.

Really looking forward to this game as still can't quite believe we are playing clubs like yours. Hope you all enjoy the trip down, the game is good and you go home disappointed with the result but not the hospitality.

Thanks for info Titch.

We were planning on going to the Brewery Shades, but this confirms it. Apparently they do decent snap, as well as real ale. Anyone who fancies a few ales before come and join us. PM before if anyone wants my number or to arrange sumert.

Ollessendro will be in the Brewery Shades. Olle will be getting up earlier and getting on the push iron. Olle will be braving the rain and heading South from Tooting. Gentle ride through Surrey and down into West Sussex. Straight to the Leisure Centre in Crawley and a quick swim and shower before heading to the train station. Should be there about 11ish to meet lucky Rob (@BladeInThatcham). Bike will be locked there and off to the Brewery Shades for some brekkie/brunch (apparently they do a mean mixed grill) and then a few ales. Taxi to the ground about half 2.

40 tons of sand on the pitch. A rainy day forecast after months of rain. Hardly suitable for the passing game. Sounds like a hoofball day to me.

You can shove your Premiership right up your arse. This post sums up how football is supposed to be.

Incidentally, my prediction: it'll be our best performance in years, we'll be 5-0 up after 25 minutes, having given Crawley nary a sniff ... and then the apocalypse will kick off.

Thanks for info Titch.

Fair enough. I don't drink Real Ale so can't comment on that and also would echo the thought that you should judge a town on your own experience not others. However, as someone who has been watching the Blades for 44 years (38 of them as a ST holder) but has lived in Crawley for 18 of those years, I would like to think that my opinion holds bit more weight than a non-SUFC fan who comes on here and posts once or twice.

So I'll say this once again and then shut up. You will be made least welcome in the Brewery Shades than any of the other pubs mentioned on here. And watch your pockets.

Creepy you are talking bo****ks mate the Shades is the best boozer in the town and all SUFC fans will be made welcome..Ive lived in Crawley 38 years and honestly cant remember the last bit of trouble in there? So Creepy do tell me when you last visited the shades as im in there every day?

see you in the shades tomorrow Titch

Chill thi sen me owd mucker. A grew up in Raw-mish in Rov-ram, so all probably feel reit at home in the Shades (if indeed tha reit). It cannot be any worse that shithole of a pub me, moDtheGod, Balham Blade, Blackheath Blade and BladeInThatcham went into after the Orient game (remember that boys??). Fucking shithole full of West Ham fans. If the Shades is owt like you say, then we'll be leaving sharp-ish (like at the Old Kings Head or whatever the fuck it was in Leyton/Walthamstow).

Wot do you expect us t do anyway Creepy? Thi hant suggested an alternative. All tha's done is stated it is a shithole. I read about the Shades in the good beer guide and read some reviews online and it seems oreit. Perhaps you can suggest somwhere else for if the pint pots do come flying in our direction at the Shades or the Swan?!

Titch - not been in the Shades for 18 months. Not going again after the last episode either.
However, I said I didn't think there would be any trouble and I'm sure you'll be fine in there Olle. Nothing wrong with most of the other places already mentioned on here. I've said where I'll be. (and for what it's worth I also grew up in Rotherham)

Olle, how can we forget that place? Fuckin hell, it's the only pub i've been in where the mice wore overalls and you wiped your feet on the way OUT!! I went to the toilet and there were more mushrooms on the bog door than what i've seen in Asda.
The beer was overpriced at two quid a pint and the landlord needed fuckin shotblasting he was that loppy.
Happy days, see you in the Shades tomorow.
