Difficult to say. This lad is a right-back but can cover right across the back four and midfield (doubt he'll play nuch there though). Could be one for the squad, but it could be that he is the first choice right-back.
agree...striker in, kids as further back up and we can use loans to fill in gaps due to injuries etc s and when required ( new striker ?). Also expect the lad from Blackpool to come in

I wouldn't read too much into the numbers on the kits: think Clough has an attachment to them (hence wearing a 9 on his own kit) but any player here last season has got the same number. That said, Alcock's probably in with a decent shout of #2 as I doubt any deal for Brayford would happen before the end of August.
Here's my guess from the Squad Numbers thread which I'd stand by, except that I think Doyle and Scougall will keep #8 and #21 respectively.

I know he won't be in the same league as Brayford, but a big part of our success last season was down to the fullbacks getting forward, I'd hate to think we were abandoning that tactic in favour of a more rigid back four

One thing NC has shown is that he's nothing if not pragmatic. He'll be guided by SUFC's demands, not by what a player or their agent demands or expects. Of course there'll be exceptions, Brayford for example, but our Nigel has a steely inner core that people would be unwise to cross swords with. We're in more than capable hands, we've got a good manager who may prove to be a great manager, and should the team be at the right end of the division in Feb-March, I doubt if anyone will question the players he's brought in.
There's always risk, but I get a good feeling about Clough Jnr. Not only are we looking like a club with a purpose, we're being driven by someone with high standards who expects the same of those employed by the club. Harry or no Harry, the single most important employee at United is Nigel Clough, and I'd rather trust his judgement than Harry's agent.

If hes not meant to be a first choice defender then it seems like a good signing, a replacement for Hill who can cover a variety of positions, if hes capable of getting forward and not booting the ball into the stands 1 in 3 attempts then hes an improvement on what we started last season with.

Although I still feel we need a couple of better players, ie Coady, Brayford and O;Grady, it is important to remember that the infrastructure of football clubs needs under pinning. This has to be the way forward because clubs like Cardiff are living on bank gurantees and once he takes his ball home they are suddenly Portsmouth.

Mickey, get a grip mate. What about the squad our manager is assembling? Does everything have to have a large fee attached to impress? No doubt when Nigel needs to spend he will, but for now he's being canny, strengthening us for a new campaign, and we'll finally begin to see a squad assembled by NC. Nigel has been busy, I doubt he'll have welcomed any of these players unless they match his standards, so I can't see what the problem is? Unless you feel a sizeable fee somehow indicates a resolve to be successful? Nigel is astute, we're lucky to have him, and unless you've got an in on what happens behind the scenes at BDTBL, do what the rest of us do, wait until the season starts and see how the team gels.

I'd rather get promotion out of League One with a squad of frees, loans and undisclosed and then use the investment wisely in the Championship.
This division is a piece of piss if you sign the right players, look at the Ched season, we had a squad of ex prem players and very good champ players, Charlton, The Pigs and Huddersfield had League One and League Two players. Same with Wolves last season, no way would they sign Leon Clarke unless they knew he was the best in this division.
I know what your saying and i still want a big striker in myself but you don't HAVE to spend big to get out of this league.
I'm liking the transfers the more i look at them,Mcnulty best player at livingston,Campbell Ryce best player at notts county always tore us apart,Basham championship player,Butler best defender at wallsall,Wallace best player at tranmere,and Alcock a very steady,nothing dramatic,versatile defender who can also cover for chopper aswell, thats that problem solved.
At this moment in time we are allready going to have alot of options in perssonel and different formations to do alot of damage in this league next year,now we just want that one more striker,be patient,although i'm finding it hard myself because we all want it done yesterday,but if it was we would get the wrong one at the wrong price.So be patient and there is no need to worry YET.

Agree fully, the majority of teams promoted from this division over the years haven't had to spend a lot of money if any. Every player we have brought in (apart from McNulty) has League one/ Championship experience. We are a league one club at the end of the day, in wages and signing on fee's etc we must have spent more than any other club in this division and most championship teams so far..

Are you taking the piss,this SQUAD is miles better than last seasons allready,how do you know that Wallace or Basham can't provide what coady did and a full season of Murphy is going to see defenders needing quite a few paracetamols.

I'd point out that we don't need anything overwhelmingly exciting right now as we have a number of that type of player at the club already. The Murphys, Flynns, Baxters and Scoogs needed for flair and guile are there already.
Yes, we need a striker (or two), but while it would be nice to have exciting player after exciting player join the club, hard workers who offer a solid backbone are perhaps more important to get out of this shithole of a league.

Agreed. We keep saying let's be patient, and so we should be. We keep saying "trust Clough", and so we should. But the players signed thus far do not at all reflect the hopes raised when The Prince bought in - at least speaking personally. Disappointing, but that's life.
