Got to hold my hand up Fulwood . I did think Basham was wank . How wrong i was . Just goes to show how much i know about football . Have to agree regarding Coutts.

at least you have held your hands up!
It is a shame Wallace wasn't fit - think they would have made a great pairing with Basham.
As for Coutts - a number don't see a footballer either, but he has been asked to play in a few different positions. He just seems as though he has to sit in midfield - wide right is never going to happen for him, but once again we have to blame Clough for putting him there. He tries, but it's just not his bag playing out wide. Now that Doyle has gone, perhaps Clough has got the deep position open for Coutts. Hopefully we recruit 3/4 players for where we need them (centre half and up top). If Wallace can get a good pre season then we might get a decent team out of it and get some of the fans off Cloughs back. Just hoping for a nice steady start, grow into the season as it progresses and try and do a Bristol/MK Dons

the ignorant pig strikes again !! God Nigel shows his true colours as he snubs Ben Davies as he leaves BL , Nigel one day it will be your turn and I hope you are treated the way you treat others , your not on top of my list but this is low , Ben Davies is a good pro , you played your lovers and kept him on the bench , Coutts would love a goal average like his , but we know our Nigel Iis a stubborn bastard , a bit of a spoilt brat that cries if he don't get his own way , Ben Davies thank you from all of us , and sorry that the t**t of a a manager couldn't be bothered to say so , as an ex DCFC player you should have known better and follow Him

I'm not even sure what this is, but releasing Ben Davies was the right decision

I watched the Swindon game yesterday for my sins and like many I'm coming round to Coutts.

How do people think he'll do under Nigel Adkins? Could Coutts play in a midfield 2 or only in a 3, say only alongside mobile players such as Basham, Scougall or Flynn?

Will Coutts be Adkins' type or will the new manager seek to move him on?

Before his injury Coutts was a very good player. At times, you can see that. Other times he looks lost. Adkins should have a fair idea of whether he can get back to something like he was, being a qualified physio. I think if he can, he'll use him.
I don't see there being much chance of us 'shipping him out'. Based on his recent performances, I can't see any Championship clubs wanting him and there won't be many L1 clubs that can afford his wages.

I hope he doesn't look to move him on personally, i) who can afford him anyway? ii) why would we want to get rid of a potential Championship player again? And iii) there are other, more pressing areas to sort out first. Lets see what Adkins thinks though as that's what will count.

Coutts could turnout to be our best player next season. .
This. It's funny how the people that actually know football say he just needs a pre season, but some of our expert fans write him off as shit

I hope people are right about this guy as I can't see it. The only hope I have for him is that he will be part of a progressive team this season, with lots of runners and options. Certainly more than he would under a Clough team.

Aisi it depends on two things:

1) health and fitness (does this make it three things?)
2) not giving the ball away 50% of the time when the pass is less than 10 yards

If we get a fit and working Coutts he could be a major asset. Let's see.

I am sure if he is crap the new gaffer will see it. If he keeps him and plays him, then two managers will have seen something that's an asset to us.
He is the highest ranked blades player on Fifa 15 lol so he must have something.
Joking aside I thought he looked good towards the end of the season and is one of the players I am looking forward to seeing with a pre season behind him.

Derby fan told me we'd signed a real player if we can get him fit again. Let's see what happens next I guess.

Midfield will not be a problem next season if we can get players fit. I don't know if Adkins will bring in a new fitness coach but last seasons squad looked one of the unfittest set of players that I can remember although it does not help when we sign players coming back from serious injuries, still not one of the squad looked capable of running past the hour mark some even less. If we get centre backs in we can release Basham into midfield with Coutts or Wallace or Cuvelier, loads of options playing a four or five man midfield. The one area where I expect a massive change is in the player's fitness levels under Clough we were very poor God know what they did in training, so many unnecessary injuries too.

I think he has a condition since his big injury and he will probably never regain full mobility.

Quality player ( Doyle said he's the star in training) who needs to keep his fingers crossed that the new manager plays a system which can include a player of his type. He'll keep the ball and knit it all together but he'll not do the hard yards in central midfield in a 4-4-2 formation.

I think Adkins being a qualified physio is a massive advantage. We had far too many injuries last season and, as you say, too many players didn't look fit enough.

Just watching the man perform last season and knowing his reputation, his pedigree, his number of games over the past 3 years, how highly most professionals regard him and yet how restricted he was during games. Putting two and two together I reckon we have a real player there but one who has been labouring under his mobility restrictions. The lad struggled to run in warm ups at times and was hobbling after 10 or 15 minutes in games.

Now whether he can regain full mobility, I am guessing not, but isn't that why he is with us and not still at Derby?

Personally it is not the be all and end all because if he has that class then he can do a job for us, indeed could even become the "main man", it's up to the manager. It depends whether Adkins wants to build a side round him and the odds are not in favour of the player frankly.

Back in time, Glynn Hodges never had full mobility, prime fitness, speed etc. but what a player to watch and what a key man.

I think its far too early to write him of as not regaining full mobility. When he does ,add to that confidence which will naturally return he will be a good player in my opinion. Whether Adkins will fancy him to play in his style and formation could be another matter.

A lot of this "let's see what he's like when he's fit" argument ignores the fact that he was fit at Derby for a good few months before we signed him, I tend to agree with those who think the Inury has permanently compromised his movement, what we saw of him is possibly about as fit as he is going to get and Derby were not reluctant to let him go.

A real shame as when he was a young player at Preston he looked like a potential class act, a Steven Gerrard or Bryan Robson powerful strong midfiled runner.

If that's gone from his game for good can he turn himself into something else?

This isn't neccessarily directed at you Za but people must not have seen Coutts when he's had the licence to get forward, which under Clough was very minimal.

If anyone went to Oldham away you'll have seen him come on at half time when him and Scouggs changed the whole game, the maurading runs Coutts was making down that right hand side was great to watch and he caused Oldham quite a few problems. He can get forward and i think he will thrive under the right manager, the lad has quality that not many players at all will have in League one, lets hope we get to see more of it at the Lane next season under Nigel Adkins.

Fair enough and to be fair people who went to Barnsley said he played well there also, I didn't see those games so can only comment on what I have seen which was not great to put it mildly.

I fully agree that he will be playing under a better manager next season, always assuming he impresses Adkins in the Pre-season campaign enough to get games.

Firstly I quite like him and think he has something positive about him definitely. I was at oldham too (although I'd had a few) and agree he's a plus going forward. My worry is that when back tracking he sometimes looked like cresswell in his latter stages running through treacle. This is where the matching up with a good foil can make a player look good or bad. . . And is why I would be a really bad manager!

He's under contract and has my support.

Derby fans told us about Coutts in that right wing role just in front of Brayford and the "telepathy" they had.. We might never know.
