the simple reason is because blackwell gets on his back in training and he did the same with billy and thats from a player.

Really will be interesting IF he goes to see how he responds to getting a run in a team and probably working with someone who will give him some confidence.

Hear horror stories too on how Blackwell really slaughters him in training.

Cotts needs to be told he has 12-15 games to prove himself and then to be picked regardless of his form. Tell him to beat his man and if he loses possession to sit in and when he next gets the ball try and beat the man again.
He needs an arm round him and injecting with a little confidence. Blackie isn't going to do that though.

...and a firework up his arse. Another of that select group of players who was a superstar before he came here and will be a superstar after he leaves...

Had a similar arguement with this thread with my Dad the other day he rates Cotterill very highly, I however don't, I think he has amazing amount of potential but is largely too lazy in games and looks like he needs constant guidance whilst on the pitch. If he plays well and has the confidence in him he looks good and certainly a world beater in this division but this largely doesn't carry over in more than one or two games. Maybe its Blackwells nurturing of Him or maybe Cotterill has major confidence issues and needs the constant guidance, I honestly don't know what are the underlying problems and what happens on the pitch or at ther training ground, so in my opinion he works well as an impact player and has all the potential to be excellent but will we ever see it....????

Ask yourselves this... would he do well somewhere like Doncaster?

But when you're identifying that potential Beech, don't you feel it's a tremendous challenge for a manager to fulfill it? To compose a team and work on a playing style that can make use of his good attributes effectively? There's no debate about whether he's consistent or not, we all know that he is, but shouldn't we also be looking at variables beyond the player himself to explain why?

You know yourself that working to a whole teams strengths can be difficult and from the experience you have with your own team but a good manager too me can find the ways to incorprate players into a game, does Blackwell do it? not all of the time didn't play to Billy's strengths though he claimed he wanted him to play the role of in the box striker.
Oh yes I state I'm not sure whether Blackwell can nuture him like many other people I'm just not critcising whats done and I largely don't feel he is consistant as a player and that may come down to guidance of his peers too, he is a young lad in some rights and his maturity in the game is still to develop. Thats why I say he has the potential and has shown this at times, I however feel he tries the samething too many times and as a player doesn't know how to effectively mix his own game up at times, he often over runs play or into a brick wall of defenders.
It doesn't work the first time, so he'll try again and again, some games however everything he does works and it can look like his boots are laced in gold, I haven't seen it enough, but we all have differing opinions on players so I respect what others see and try to focus on his positives.

To be honest Beech, I see a player who will always struggle in a team like ours because of the direct nature of the play. No effective enough going forward or covering back.

Coming back to his actual performances though, he doesn't go past players like he should if he was an out and out winger, and yet he's quite easy to read for defenders if he was to play the Beckham/Bentley role with early balls. On the good side I think his play on losing the ball has improved a lot. He chases back and tries to support the defence. He didn't when he first arrived, but... still one good game in five. Promises more than he delivers, the ideal replacement for Tongey...

and the others are? I'm struggling to think of any to be honest so it must be a very select group.:D

I said same here dunc he just runs at defenders and does the same trick if it doesn't work once he'll do it again and again instead of playing something a bit more simple.

That's the problem for me and many others though Dunc, he's hardly been picked for five games in a row since he joined us. I just don't think it's fair to say he has one good game in 5 when most of his appearances are as a substitute or being the very first person to come off should anyone get sent off or if KB fancies changing tactics. This is whilst players playing just as poorly if not worse manage to keep their place with ease, is there any wonder his confidence might be knocked especially given his age? I'm thinking of Quinn and his terrible run of form and to be honest I thought Halford was awful for the first few months of the season last year apart from at Charlton away.

This season he's made 3 starts and 11 substitute appearances and has seen Blackwell play a number of people out of position on the right wing rather than give him the shirt. Up to now he's played in 511 minutes of this season, that means an average of 36.5 minutes for every game he's got on the pitch - that's quite clearly not enough opportunity for him to settle down and start finding his feet and I think most players would find it difficult given the stifled opportunities he's had.

I believe I'm aware of his weaknesses and he is getting better at tackling and tracking back, I'm happy to accept he was pretty abysmal at this when he joined... He does fall over quite a lot and he should really try to mature and try not to let it get to him when he fails to beat a man.. However without a doubt we create more chances with him in the side, give teams something to worry about and even when he doesn't have a great game he'll still qute often manage to get across 5 or more decent crosses that we could score from. To add to that what I think a lot of people miss is that he quite often creates space and opportunities for other players just because when he does play teams try to mark him out of the game and often stick two men on him.

It's absolutely no coincidence that when given a run of games when he joined us on loan he played well and was offered a contract, it's no coincidence that when he was given a run of games after christmas last year he played well and things picked up for us and it'll be no surprise to me if he gets better and plays well this year with a run of games. What does surprise me is that some fans are so quick to label him as useless, Blackwell is so cautious about playing him and would rather play Jamie Ward or Jordan Stewart out on the right wing and Blackwell also seems by all accounts both in games and behind the scenes to treat him like he ran up and unexpectantly tossed off all over his wife in her Sunday best.

Have to agree wonder why we can't get the best of out cotts.
It might be because we dont accually play football. like when howard went to reading he say he likes the way that reading play football so he played better when he was at reading.
also i hope cotts does not go, i would say he our best winger.
