When was the last time we had a dangerous corner-taker? Didn't us Blades used to get excited when we got one? Even Gillespie, who was argualbly one of the best crossers of the ball we've had in a long time rarely delivered a dangerous corner.

Wish we had this "Woody" character ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLs0cKm1ETE Two completely different corners, both awesome and lethal.

There seems to be a myth amongst the commentators on TV that we are a team who produce quality set pieces and are also a tall powerful side.
In the few games I do see I do not see much imagination or innovation from free kicks or corners.
When Blackwell was assistant to Warnock then we did produce imaginative free kicks and in fact he got credit but the only one I have seen tried recently has been where the players intentionally collide as the kick is being taken.
Have more regular fans seen any other creative efforts?

Alan Woodward.
used to score direct from em ..... still remember the one at Leicester.

He has scored a goal direct from a corner at least 4 times

v Newcastle (h) in the League Cup in Sept 1969

v Leicester (a) against Peter Shilton in Sept 1971 and it can be viewed in the BBC MOTD video (produced in 1991)

v Coventry (h) Nov 1971

v Norwich (h) Jan 1973

Keith Edwards Favourite set piece.

I'd like to see us try something a bit different.

Set pieces generally are crap. We never take a quick corner/ freekick/ goal kick or throw in. And god forbid we get a keeper that looks up quickly for a short ball and quick counter attack

Innovation from free-kicks and corners?
If straight into the keepers hands or not clearing the first row defence is'nt innovative enough for you, then I don't know what is!
Seriously though, how many attacks from free-kicks and corners do we waste by the shite FIRST kick.
Totally totally forget about the short corner as well, as it 99% leads to us losing the ball.

Ha ha yes the classic Utd short corner. Corner (B*gger about a bit), Cross (panic), throw in (defender clears).

I think our set pieces in general are always quite poor. Our deliveries from corners are terrible at times, we had about 9 at Swansea I think and never made one of them count. It's so frustrating.

The one set piece that REALLY pisses me off, is when we get a free kick around 25-30 yards out. We have two men infront of the ball, two men round the ball, then we try a stupid short pass and shot, which usually ends up failing.

Let's just have a shot, and get the two men around the ball in the box looking for scraps.
