Peck's corner kicks and other shortcomings

Fair point about the corners, it was playground tactics as there was a cluster of 4/5 Hull defenders before a red & white shirt could be seen, yet we continued.

It was amazing, given the amount of corners, and long throws we had that we got absolutely nothing for them.

Hull success was down to the fact that they did exactly what every team who comes to the Lane does, put everyone behind the ball, wait for us to lose it and then counter swiftly - only they did it better than most.

We have to adapt, outfield players spreading quickly, distribution improving and speeding up, pace generally injecting.
There was tactics at play here we just don't attack the ball with aggression. Its all about how much you want it and we don't have anybody willing to get in there.
We must practice corners even if it dunt look like it

What is the elephant in the room?
Every time he's been under pressure, Wilder has folded like Mr Origami with some bizarre decisions.....

Friday night had echoes of some of the Premiership campaign where the more Wilder tinkered, the worse it got ...

Leave the lad alone.
He’s been a revelation this season.Thrown in at the deep end, because of injuries, and at times has had to marshal midfield on his own.
He always gives 100% for the cause, which is way more than some of our supporters do.
Yes,he’s learning his trade and that means mistakes, but he’s played a big part in where we are in the league this season.
He’s due a rest,as Wilder says, but bloody he’ll cut him a bit of slack. He’s 20 and had the responsibility of running the midfield on his own on Friday night.Cracking prospect for us and years to come, hopefully.

peck has had a fantastic first season in the team but the lad is running on empty now hes had to play so many games because of injuries he needs a couple of games on the bench which makes it more important for us to bring choudray in as for the corners i would give em all inswingers and outswingers to burrows when hamers missing hes the best crosser of a ball weve got

It always baffled me that Norwood used to take so many corners when they were dire. He could ping a ball across the pitch from distance and make it land on a 50p, but at free kicks and corners he was awful. As soon as Fleck took over we suddenly had chances on goal or scored.

Giving 100% effort doesn't make up fot being defensively and positionally poor. He has one good game followed by three poor games. We need this to be the other way around. I don't rate Peck or Brooks.

Where do you come up with that for any given corner there’s only a 40% chance that a player can actually beat the first man?

Peck’s corners were terrible yesterday, his technique gave a look of a player who doesn’t normally take them.

Half of our problem is we simply don’t have the bully-boy players who have a burning desire to get on the end of a corner. JLT for instance, seldom wins a 50/50 aerial challenge in open play.
It's nigh on impossible to defend a flick on at the near post, McCallum is a great header of the ball & tailor made for that role, then players behind can make blind side runs to meet the flick ons, or have 2 players at the back stick which pulls defenders out of the congested 6 yard box, we don't have any variety at set pieces, it's the same every time & so easy to defend, Souttar is a huge loss in that respect,as well as for his other attributes

100% this.

He's 20 years old, made his debut a couple of months ago, and was the only midfielder in Friday and therefore had the responsibility of running the midfield.

I've got really high hopes for him, but we've got yo give him time to develop, of course he isn't the finished article

Peck took around 8 corners. Why? After his fourth consecutive corner was hit straight to the near post defender, he should have been removed from the job (note Moore replaced by Burrows with pens). The only corner that did not prove too short went way over the players. His free kicks were little better. Why not the gifted Burrows? Get an authoritative captain (when did we last have one?) out there who is trusted to make these adjustments as needed. We were rudderless again, slow, boring, uncreative and a deep disappointment. Wrong starting line up, both personnel and positions, uninformed by performance against Swansea. Despite spending attacking money and keeping his fingers crossed (failed expensively last time), Wilder's basic defensive mentality will depress any natural expressive talent his players might have. When they dare to go for it they are fluent and exciting to watch, but we bore too often; bad enough if you're there, even worse on t' telly.
Not sure corners or long throws should get us too excited.
We have scored 1 header all season!!
Amazing stat really at this stage of the season?
