Then pinchy saw something I didn't as well. I was very critical of Coutts when he first arrived. He looked completely lost at first, admittedly I recall he had just come back from a long injury at his previous club.

That injury must have had some impact because he's developed into an unbelievable footballer that can control a game almost on his own. I'm delighted he's proved me wrong.

Always thought Coutts was a class act:

I had Coutts along side Wallace running midfield with their eyes closed it would be that easy for them.

I remember when he first joined and people near me used to groan and whine at every missed pass he did. It wasn't that he was shit, it was that he was about 5 or 6 seconds ahead of his teammates so it looked like misplaced passes, when in fact, his colleagues were just Wank.

Agreed....I said the same. Also said this when Evans was getting dogs abuse under cackwell! Another who was surrounded by players not at his level.
Coutts.....even when he first arrived looked a player. When he moved with the ball it was so controlled and smooth...RollsROYCE player was often used. But his lack of fitness was all too apparent, as well as perhaps some mental scars from the bad injury he suffered.
But time and great management has brought him to his best, and there surely must be a Scotland cap on the way.

In fairness we all saw his class in rare glimpses - against Bradford at home under Adkins he was outstanding. Not in the way of the one-off blinder that many players have, but in a way that showed he was actually a class above the division.

The big question to me is how much of his prior failure was down to his attitude, or to his his fitness, or to the paucity of the team around him. Playing alongside the horror show midfield that was Baxter, Woolford and Hammond, he was on a sticky wicket. I doubt even Andrea Pirlo could orchestrate much of anything given that midfield.

I said this last January.....and I believe now as I did then that they really are better than the lot they have at the moment.
Surely call ups can't be far away. Stick em both in middle of the park for the jocks and will help them a hell of a lot.

I've said it before and I'll say it again,he's like a quarterback in American football,he just dictates everything,always available,give and go's never in any trouble,never panics,a fcukin joy to watch.

Unfortunately I wish I was in this case but I'm not. Coutts hasn't had a bad game so far and we've played the best side in the league on form and in terms of squad power away from home.

You can make an argument for him being MOTM in every game.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Saw summat in Coutts in a home game against Scunthorpe a few seasons back. He might have gone backwards at one point but he's become the player that I saw in him. Also, credit to Wilder for putting that appetite in his belly. We have to remember he's our vice captain, a decision made by Wilder and I trust Wilder's judgement. He is one of our most senior players to the point he's next inline to Billy Sharp. The lad deserves a lot of respect.

You like me have recognised the player he could be and have been frustrated by his bad positioning. I will have to forgive this in the way Pinchy forgives his long balls.
MOTM yesterday was either Bashambaur or Fleck. If only Coutts could tackle like Fleck or use run the open spaces like Bash.
He does continue to improve however and is starting to take on board what you I and Chris wilder have highlighted.

It seems like everybody always knew Coutts was a world beater

I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't convinced. Everyone could see he had technique - the question marks for me were related to commitment and mobility.

As it turns out; his commitment is unwavering and his mobility is irrelevant: he forces the other 21 players to play at his pace.

I'm only 23, so I never got to see some of the blades legends, meaning now I regard Coutts as the best playmaker I've ever seen in red and white - long may it continue.

Coutts has been fantastic for about a year now. Hit the ground running again this year and looks at home in the Championship. Master class of midfield play yesterday.

Once he got fit and stopped playing with fear (after the awful injury he had prior to signing for us) he's really shone through.
