Convince me we should support clough

Agree , and if that happened at the lane , i am certain Clough would resign and The Prince would commence to pull out , any investment now or in the future .

My own opinion on all things blades , we have to go with Clough , and the continuity route , as changing managers is one of the reasons ( not the sole reason ) , we are in the league we are in.

The decision will be the boards , but can be very much influenced by the fans , but in the right way and manner.

Also the fact is we are 5th , and still a great chance of reaching the play offs and winning them. We would be then be suicdal to change horses at this stage . Like always us fans perhaps have more responsibility and clout than we actually realise , but it has to channelled in the correct way , not like at Sunderland

A great chance of winning the Play Offs?

Are you sure you're on the right club's forum?

Even without our fantastic Play Off pedigree, I wouldn't fancy us over 2 legs against MK Dons or Swindon.

What a wasted opportunity this season has turned into.

I am hoping that Palace will overtake Newcastle in the league table so that will put the egg on the faces of the Newcastle fans for creating the toxic atmosphere for Pardew. Sometimes fans do need a reality check

If you think the fans are the problem at Newcastle you really need to educate yourself about the way Mike Ashley runs that club.

We've beaten Preston (2-1 H and 1-1 away) and Bristol City (1-2 H 3-1 A)over two legs :-) The point being that, on our day, we can beat the best this division has to offer.

It's pretty amazing that pre the Peterborough game everyone was talking about us getting automatic. Three bad results later, we won't even get to the play offs.

The reality is that we have a good chance of getting in the play offs (we are 5th after 3/4 of the season for a reason) and if we get there there is a possibility we could win them. Given that, we don't want to sack Clough before the end of the season.

This is not to say that scrabbling around for a play off spot is not, given our resources, a bit shit. However, there is still time for the season to turn out a success.

I wouldnt want our fans to behave like Sunderland fans did when they tried to get to Poyet last Saturday. If this happened then the Prince and McCabe would give up in making investments. If I was filthy rich, then I wouldnt buy any club cos nowadays fans have high expectations and easily change their minds about the manager (they would sing praise for the manager but do the opposite in a few months time)

We've already done it Silent. QPR at home in the relegation season. Mc Cabe sacked Blackwell on the spot as he had some Thai investors over that he thought he could sell the club to. Said types were later exposed as fradulent in that C4 programme, so God only knows where we would have ended up. Well done the fans say I.

On your other point, what would be the point of investing in the first place if you didn't have high expectations and ambition yourself?

Nigel Adkins is available...

Look what he did with Southampton, who were in exactly the same hole a few years ago

Would take Adkins over Cluff in a heartbeat.....they could only have to change the C to an A on the trackie tops too.....win win

For the sake of the club he needs to go.

I'm not advocating a change of manager, at this juncture - more so a change of style of approach to the remaining games
I believe he has been attempting to do this but it is still too cautious and the loan out of JCR is looking more and more of a mistake

Unfortunately, the height issue is something that will challenge us for the rest of the season and without the loan of a commanding CB I fear it will be our Achilles heel culminating in yet another dismal failure to get out of this fecking division.

Whilst the jury may be out on Mr Clough Why would the Prince and the Board listen to the half baked theories trotted out by the negative posters on here ???
Unfortunately, we have big club syndrome with so called supporters that expect to win every game no matter about the opposition - according to some of our 'supporters' opposing sides should just lay down and let the Blades walk all over them !
Did Southampton sack their manager when they lost at the Lane, did Bristol City sack their manager when they actually lost at home to us - NO - they looked at the whole picture - yes, we are all disappointed that we are not in the top two, but, we are in there with a great chance of making the play offs and have the beating of any of the other play off candidates
So, instead of whinging, sniping and being totally negative - Take a few days off and get behind the team ! UTB

Yes, I found the sacking strange at the time and I am pleased that these dodgy types didnt take over the club. McCabe has made mistakes such as Bryan Robson and I never really understood why he bought clubs such as Chengdu etc but I do think that if he walks away from us then we would be in real trouble

One of my favourite managers. A lot of my friends who have met him say he is fluent in BSL as his daughters are deaf and has been guest of honour at British Deaf football presentation evenings and has been doing coaching sessions. I feel sad that he hasnt been having much success lately

Silent, That's probably why he talks complete and utter bollocks when he does open his mouth. :)

PS I like the man.

Grand but Preston or Bristol won't be in the Play Offs, MK Dons, Swindon, Barnsley, Peteborough or Fleetwood probably will be.

Our results against these teams aren't quite as good,

Sheffield United 0 - 1 MK Dons
Mk Dons 1 - 0 Sheffield United
(Agg Drew 1-1)

Swindon Town 5 -2 Sheffield United
Sheffield 2 - 0 Swindon Town
(Agg Lost 4-5)

Sheffield United 0 - 1 Barnsley
Barnsley (Not Played Yet) Sheffield United
(Agg Losing 0-1)

Peterborough United 1 - 2 Sheffield United
Sheffield United 1 - 2 Peterborough United
(Agg Drew 3-3)

Fleetwood 1 - 1 Sheffield United
Sheffield United 1 - 2 Fleetwood
(Agg Lost 2-3)

It's like when we played Burnley at Wembley with the ridiculous idea that Coyle and Co would have forgotten how easily it was to beat us, even after been figured out twice earlier that season.

In the midst of mayhem and disaster, there is humour - one Sunderland fan rang the local radio station to say that he was staying until full-time so as to beat the traffic.

Good on you sir :)

The one and only game I left early was when we were 0-4 down at half time. The four of us went back to the car parked on waste ground (now a car sales) only to find we were blocked in by the Sunderland coaches. That was a horrible 45 minute wait!

Nigel Adkins is available...

He left Reading because he was trying it on with players wives apparently. We definitely don't want that at the minute.

I also remember 2003 when we were so confident against Wolves because of our two league games against them during the season !!
And we beat Palace 1-0 away and 3-0 home in 1996-97 season. We know what happened in the play off final!

Indeed.

It's also a fact that three of our successful play off semis were acheived against clubs we lost on aggregate to in the season proper

1996-97 Ipswich L2-6
2002-03 Forest L1-3
2012-12 Stevenage L3-4

The only exception is Preston in 08-09 (W1-0)

Why should we support Clough?? Because he's our manager and in the 18 months in charge has brought us some pretty good memories and is currently in 5th place in the league, but going through a rough patch. The very definition of support would indicate helping, or god forbid, "supporting" someone through a rough patch. In his relatively short amount of time with us he should at least deserve that, and to be allowed to see the season out.

Unfortunately, some of our fans appear to have just about tipped past the point of no return, and are now more focused on dragging him down and pushing him out then supporting him.

Oh well, they'll have a new lamb to slaughter once Clough is gone....and another one probably about 18 months after that once they drive out Clough's successor.

I reckon the managers job at the Lane will be about as appealing as the Newcastle job once Clough leaves.
If supporting the manager means vocally getting behind the team during the games then I'm right behind you.

If it means arguing black is white on here then I'm not.

Either way, there will be a big queue of people prepared to do the job once available. Managers do not fear being paid seven figure sums for being told they don't have to turn up for work any more.

“The mentality we have got to have for the rest of the season is to fight for everything,” Done said.

“If it is not going our way and we are not playing as well as we would like to, we can’t go into our shells.
We have got to roll up our sleeves and try and win a bit ugly. Do whatever it takes."

This is how we look at it well said Matt

Simple, rescued from the dregs last year, in the playoffs this year...doesn't seem like we are going backwards at all. Just not as quickly forward as some wish.

We need to finish 4th and then fuck up the play offs to complete the full set.

3rd (2003, 2009, 2012)
5th (1997, 2013)
6th (1998)

Not sure if Preston have even done the full monty.

We haven't finished 4th in a league since 1960.

Well "said" indeed, just shows how a few well chosen words can work wonders. Been too many occasions this season where we've rolled over and died against shit sides to convince me it's anything other than bullshit but hey, if you think we've suddenly grown a pair then good for you.

Do your talking on the pitch please, a convincing win tomorrow would be a good start.
