I've just watched the Peterborough game, and seeing Sammon's contribution made me realise that any preconceptions that may have gone ahead of him should be banished. There's a footballer in that big frame, and the fact that he'll fight, dig in, make a nuisance of himself etc, shouldn't disguise the fact that we've now got a proper, old school center forward who'll make life difficult for opposing defenders, and in turn create chances for his teammates, something we've not seen for a long, long time. Like other posters, I hope we can sign Sammon to a permanent contract, as we're now looking to have players who can make a positive difference.
Loved his first goal, any doubts about what he can or can't do were forgotten in that moment. In the space of a few seconds he created space and scored an emphatic goal that was superbly taken. I noted that a report in the local Peterborough newspaper wrote admiringly about the Sammon-Sharp partnership in terms that were glowing.....something along the lines of the best forward pairing this division has to offer. High praise indeed, and I'll be the first to eat humble pie when it comes to Sharp's contribution, so far Billy's looked an intelligent player who'll give the Blades the edge they've missed. With young Adams having a predatory instinct, we've got goals in this team that Nigel Adkins has turned around. Gillingham apart (we'll put that down to an aberration, a bad day at the office if you like), the promise we've shown seems to have raised everyone's expectations, and with good reason.
