[CONFIRMED] Will Hoskins on season long loan

Good news this one, lets hope he can take some pressure off Ched and Cressy. Porter and BT dropped down the pecking order now

Porter definitely, Beattie not so sure! Currently I'd agree, but if/when he reaches 100% fitness I still think he'll score for fun. Be nice if he reached it just in time for a certain game towards the end of February...
 
How do you see BT being dropped down the pecking order? Hoskins (1 in 2 average at Bristol Rovers by the way) hasn't proved anything to us. As for Porter, he gets pelters every time someone mentions his name but he keeps getting a chance and he keeps scoring goals. Hardly Richard Cadette type stats has he? Perhaps we have ourselves another SUFC scapegoat?

I would have thought that with the exception of Ched, the rest are all fighting for the remaining front spot. Equal is surely the best way to view it. A fully fit and firing BT would grace anyone in this division so I would expect him to be the most likely person to start once he is (if he is) fit.
 
But Hoskins may turn out to be an inspired signing who works out well like Lambert did at Southampton, or Holt at Norwich
 
Dropping down the pecking order:
BT - Banned for 2 more games. Lacks fitness to start games. Lacks fitness and discipline to play for longer than 10 mins
Porter - Shite. Offside. But does get some goals (oddly)

How many goals could we be scoring if someone else was on the end of the chances though?
 
Hmm. Having heard his interview on Football Heaven, I've got a feeling he's been given a hint he'll either start most games, or one of his main contenders up front is off.

Am I right in thinking DW didn't once start Clarke & Evans together during Clarke's loan spell? Would love to be wrong, but I think we're going to be selling one of the remaining strikers, and Evans looks the likely one. Perhaps another L1 club might be interested in Porter. But I suspect it'll be Evans off, perhaps on loan given the court case issue.

How could you tell what he meant, he seemed to start every answer with "yes, no" and that just confuses me, I don't know of he's agreeing or disagreeing. It must be an age thing.....

It's an age thing clearly Trig. He said "you know" a lot as a bit of punctuation.
 
Im certain a striker is off and I believe it will be Evans or Evans.
 
Apparently Brighton fans rate him and are surprised that he is off. A Blade mate of mine got this text from a Brighton fan: "You (as in Sheffield Utd) have taken Will Hoskins on loan. We're all a bit miffed to be honest, looks like a top prospect, been injured a lot of the season, so not too many chances in the 1st team, but looked like the real deal when he played. Hope he does well for you. Not sure why Gus has let him go.."

We need something different as a plan B. Perhaps this is it. Cressy and Ched have done a good job this year. Cresswell has lead the line really well and Ched has banged in the goals. Together they have torn poorer teams apart. However against the better teams they've looked slow, lacking movement and innefective. It has highlighted their weakness (such as the previous and a poor tocuh) that they usually get away with. I am sure that they will keep scoring against the likes of Colchester, Scunny, Yeovil and Bournemouth. However we might need something different for trips to the Sty, Udders, MK and Notts County. Hopefully Hoskins has a bit of pace and trickey that he can add.

Makes sense to bring in a player like this. Puts question marks over whether we needed to offer BT a deal. Does this mean we'll see someone go out? I doubt it. We'd be mad to loan Evans out and just let him go for a free at the end of the season. May as well hope he fires us up (Beckford style). We've now got 5 strikers. Surely we could have added some pace out wide instead.
 



In isolation, it's a good move, as he's a decent player with a good track record at this level.

As Olle says, however, when you consider who else is on the books, it's an odd move. Maybe someone is going out on loan...

I always link Hoskins and Williamson in my mind as they went to Watford together from Rotherham. Here's hoping Hoskins has a better fitness record with us.
 
Quinn also played with him at Rotherham.

I think Wilson will chose between Evans and Hoskins for the goalgetter role, and between Cresswell, Beattie and Porter for the target man role. We look really strong up front at the moment.

I agree, which makes me surprised that Hoskins wanted the move given I don't see Evans being dropped any time soon. Given Beattie & Porter haven't had much of an impact coming off the bench though, we do seem to now have an option that provides us with that.
 
I think Hoskins gives Wilson another option to compliment Ched, an option who isnt a target man

Do we always need a target man if we now play the ball on the deck and look to get in behind the defenders?
 
Maybe he will play him out wide like he did Clarke

No, but judging by Wilson's selections so far, that's his preference.
 
First thought..he is coming from an upper division so is a good acquisition.
Second thought....we're now taking players moving down from Brighton FFS.

My brain still slams shut when I think about us being in League 1.

It might be a case of another promotion on the cv that he wanted the move? If he helps us to it thats fine by me.
