Reasons for my support of Clough?

  1. He is a big enough name to get better players to look at us with our supposed wads of money
  2. But not so big it will be a Robson type affair
  3. His abilities in continually improving teams can be seen in his stable if unspectacular track record
  4. He has experience but not so much he can be deemed at the end of his career
  5. He will mix up style rather than just stick to hoof or playing on the deck for the sake of it
I would suggest he has the clout to get players who wouldn't have signed under certain other managers we could have picked to at least talk to us.

Someone else has said elsewhere it could be a good appointment or it could be a shocker. I think most of us were pleased with the appointment of Weir but certainly not with the outcome. Football makes idiots of all of us at some time or other. Best give the bloke a chance and lets get ourselves out from the foot of the table and at least getting some stability mid table. If we can get back into a mid table position come Christmas then the play offs are a possibility. Obviously this depends on a good transfer window and the money being realised in players in rather than fish tanks in the board room.

Fingers crossed eh? Its about all we can control as fans.

By my reckoning Clough is the 4th ex SWFC player to manage us - Davison, Porterfield and Wilson are the others.

It was just one game on loan I think...

I'll judge him on results - good luck to him (and us)

UTB

Give the man his due, he doesn't look at all happy wearing that shirt, does he? ;)

I was underwhelmed at the suggestion of Nigel Clough as our new manager.

However, my thoughts of him improved, when I read his track record, and when I found out that he was bringing a very loyal team with him. This raised again when he mentioned Morgan and I really hope he can be integrated into the new framework.

Although I still believe it achievable, I think it's unrealistic that we will get promoted, but I'd certainly welcome it.

I hope he's like his dad, as far as footballing management is concerned, and I hope he's our manager in 23 years time, having beaten his father's achievements.

I'm still half-empty though.

I think Weir was probably the first appointment in many years that the fans were 95% behind.

Shame how it turned out.

Like many i thought maybe we would be aiming higher than Clough. But in hindsight we can only aim so high due to were we are.

A huge welcome to Mr Clough! Long may he reign at United. I'm actually pretty pleased now he's finally here.

That's the spirit Swiss :D
Lets just hope to god, Allah and all the rest that he gets some results and he sees out his contract.

Watched the interviews with him and he speaks really well. No big statements other than we basically need to get out of the shite.

I'm easily pleased, he got me with "this is a proper football club"

Now, first job, rip up Kings contract, start laying down the ground rules for the players and get these fuckers fit

His definition of a proper club seemed to be one that didn't have a newly built bowl stadium.

I suppose he didn't think Derby was a proper club then.

By the sound of it Sheff Utd have got more money to spend than Derby so you should be thankful. Nigel was a Derby man through and through even though he played for F***st but one thing is for sure that Derby fans know is that he sill give his utmost to who he manages. You have a good youth academy according to the press and that is one thing that Cloughie does believe in. Derby lost a true fan in their manager which is rare these days but he will give his all for the Blades. Good luck to him and you all

WTF can I do about it?

Kind Regards,

Poseidon.

I wonder if he walked in and said "i won't eat and won't sleep, until i've taken whatever that man's achieved, and beaten it. Beaten it so i never have to hear the name David fucking Weir ever again!"

I'm gonna go with no. :)

McCabe has paid off the debts so that Prince Abdullah could become the joint owner of the club but it is unclear how much we can spend in the JTW due to the FFP rules

If I understand the rules properly we can spend as much as we like on anyone under the age of 21 and coaching staff. If we want to invest in a player over 21 we have to put in 33% extra. So we would have to put in £1m to pay for a player bought at £650k.

Over to you Price Abdullah!

Thanks for explaining, hope Clough will be like his dad when it comes to finding young players who have CHARACTER

Sorry, Edison Arantes do Nascimento. You'll have to give way for a while.

I'm welcoming Nigel.

I know what you mean. I usually miss the 'i' out. However, the great man's first name was given as Edison on his birth certificate, with a date of birth of October 21, 1940. Pelé has publicly claimed, though, that he was born October 23, 1940, and the October 23 date is the most often journalistically cited date. Both Edison and Edson have been variously reported as his given first name. It is often said he was named after the inventor Thomas Edison.

In the end, he's Pelé - the greatest footballer we have ever seen or ever will.
