How uninspiring, hope he isn't a McGuire replacement............. if not I can't see why we signed him.

I really don't rate him at all.

If LSF and Hill are our centre back cover then I am very worried.

My first response to three signings was excitement but had expected Miller and McMahon, then was utterly dissapointed to see the third was Matt Hill.

BUT

On the plus side, I think we have a fully competent defense now provided Harry stays put, and have adequate cover should anything go wrong ala. Oldham and have disastrous effects that cost us promotion ala Walsall away. At least Hill can cover LB and Center Back, fingers crossed Danny only let him sign on the promise that there would be no more 'hoofing' to nowhere.

Would still like to see a decent wide man brought in, but somehow I think this may be our squad now.

Two year deal as well? Who did we fear would steal him next summer if we only gave him a year?

Can't believe we're still making the same mistakes of signing inadequate players of contracts longer that 1 year. Signing Hill again is prob on the same level as signing Porter for another year as DW worse signings

I think Hill could be a decent squad player. Although i hope his signing doesnt mean we give some of the youngsters less time on the pitch.
I cant see him being on big wages, but agree a two year deal was probably one year too long.

Limited players like Hill, Williams and Montgomery lack composure. The alternative to a long punt forward is often a dangerous, misplaced pass that results in a counter attack. When these players are at the age they are they won't improve drastically. If we want to keep our passing game and don't want those aimless long balls we must try to avoid having too many players like this in the squad.

As I've said, I think Hill will be good enough defensively and he seems like a nice chap, so it's not all bad.

Don't see the problem - won't be on too high wages, and can provide adequate cover at 2 positions. Brentford away he was decent and had other decent games.

totally agree with that kev,we were short on back up last term.cant see him being a starter, mainly a bench warmer, though personally i`d like to see tel kennedy get the nod in front of him.

You're hoping we signed a footballer on the condition that he plays totally differently to how he did previously? Slightly optimistic I suspect.

Last season I was cynical of the constant criticism of Hill, so in a couple of games I took specific note of what happened every time he touched the ball. Honestly, I have never known a player so consistently fail to find a team mate.

Mysterious signing for me, but I suppose all you can say is he's played at a higher level previously, so there must be some ability hidden in there somewhere. Presumably Wilson believes he can re-kindle it.

I noticed that he started finding more shorter passes, because his long range stuff was so woeful. It was probably under instruction. But once this happened, all that was left to concentrate on was his defending, which was actually very solid.

Fact is, we're skint. Given the limitations, I'm quite neutral about ths signing.

UTB

I wanted us to sign his son, James.
Think he ended up at Bournemouth and haven't heard anything since..
