He was excellent towards the end of the season. Decent back-up - and I'd argue a better left-back than Williams.

Scores a cracking penalty too.
 
Daft signing.

We have one capable left back fit, and one back within a month of the season start.

Added to the fact that he was poor for us, I'd suggest this is Danny's biggest transfer misstep to date.

I suspect with McMahon signing, Hill and LJF are going to alternate being the main defensive cover given they can both play two positions.

The McMahon signing certainly balances out this one!

His crossing is appalling, I give you that. However, defensively I thought he was solid.

He wasn't excellent or anything even approaching it though. He was shite. Defensively he was marginally better than the awful Taylor and probably on a par with Williams, who offers slightly more going forward.

Hill was miles behind Lecsinel defensively and going forward. A lot of our problems came last season when Lecs got injured.

Hill's technique is also dire. It must have taken at least five games before I realised the reason he kept trying to use his left foot was that he is supposed to be left footed.

At least we've signed two others today so there are still a couple of positives.

Not sure about the centre half bit tbh.
Did anyone see him at Walsall away??
I know it was his first game and he'd only arrived 20 minutes earlier, but that doesn't make up for the fact that he didn't win a header all evening - except in the warm ups :)

Agree with most of that but I disagree Hill is behind LJF in regards defending, I'd give Hill the edge, but his distribution was utterly appalling and totally at odds with the rest of the team, whereas LJF fit in well to this style and he provided a bit of pace as well. Don't mind Hill as a squad player, but we still have Williams on the books and we should have given him a year not 2 IMO.

The reason I put Lecsinel ahead of Hill defensively is, for all that he is error prone, he has the pace to get back and recover, Hill has very little to make up for his inadequacies.
 



Decent defensively, poor offensively, I think most of us agree on that. I'd hoped we'd find a decent / average combination at least.

Two year deal as well? Who did we fear would steal him next summer if we only gave him a year?

Maybe he wouldn't sign on a one year deal and Wilson really wanted him?

He was also in a brand new defence. At Brentford,he and Maguire had good games at centre half

I thought he did alright first half and had a decent jump on him. Second half though, him and others struggled big time.

We will have to disagree on this. I thought whiclst LJF played,all opur problems came down his side. Hill is better in the air and better defensively,imo and in the plays offs and at Wembley he was one of our better players.

Be a boring life if we all agreed thou :-)

I just hope that this isn't the start of Hill being made a scapegoat for anything that goes wrong like Monty,Quinn and Simmo before him

Agree with that, Hill is better defensively. I do however think Lecs is better going forward and in time will improve defensively. I'm not sure where the harsh criticism of Hill comes from. He's looked solid whilst not spectacular in most games.

Some players are picked on for the odd ropey game. I can name a number of players in our squad who have had those and some of them are fan favourites. Hill will do fine, gives us another reliable option.

Hill and Egan were probably in shock that 2nd half with the way Ertl was performing
 
actually gutted as i guess this meens we wont be sighning ben parker who i think would of been a fantastic player at this level

Did you really have to mention Nyron? - I'm only just getting over his spell at the Lane. Gave the best impersonation of someone with his feet on the wrong legs that I've ever seen.

Agree - and what an insult to LJF who is no where near in the same league as Nyron.
