Apologies if this has already been mentioned but it may appear Jasper Johns has signed for us, based on his twitter (assuming it is really his account that it.)

Not heard much about him other than on here but the good news is he isn't Marcus Williams. :D

What national teams are you eligible to play for?England, Jamaica, Singapore, Northern Ireland and Scotland

Dafuq?
Anyway i hope the lad does well!!

Never mind our Jasper at least he's eligible to play for Jamaica. What's wiv da Mason Springthorpe, he aint no homeboy he is white bro and he is from Shrewsbury innit! One must therefore assume that he is a bit of a bell end?

Mason needs needs a lesson or two, blud!

Always good news when a JJ arrives on the scene. But shame that signing for United is less interesting than where in Spain you went for a holiday.

Again, another sad indictment on the state of young footballers today. All twitter and facebook, plus white boys that soooooo want to be black.

.
You seem to conveniently only choose the shows you like. How about successful British stuff like Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife?? I've never watched either, but to pretend they don't exist to suit your argument is plain naughty!

Well of course, we're not talking about success, we're talking about quality. The reason I didn't mention Downton Abbey et al is that they're utter dross and don't deserve to be spoken about in a discussion about quality TV. Likewise a whole slew of American programmes - Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, Gossip Girl etc. My point is that top end US TV is streets ahead of the British equivalent. Indeed it is being said that TV in America is actually producing more high quality than cinema which historically isn't the case. Anyway, any further discussion should probably be housed in the appropriate section of the forum!

On topic: Glad to see we're finally getting some incomings! As usual it seems that everyone else in the country is signing players while we twiddle our thumbs (I know this is not the case but it often seems like it)

Fucking hell have I stumbled into EDL-web?

Young kid in speaking in text speak shocker. Geez better lock him up! Oh and lock me up as I was speaking my own bollocks to my mates when I was 18.

When did we become such a group of miserable middle aged bastards? Irvine Welsh said we were a cool club with gallows humour and an irreverent swagger. Now we're just a bunch of boring miserable whiners.

I was with this up to the 'when I was 18' comment. You still spout bollocks Rodley :D

Depends on your viewpoint though. I personally haven't seen a single episode of any of those American shows, except the first episode of Homeland which i found ok but a bit meh and i never watched it again. American drama is glossy and mostly humourless and passionless so i don't usually bother. I see the trailer and think oh, another one of those boring American shows. I want to watch House of Cards, cos i loved the British one, but apart from that i can't think of anything that interests me.

Homeland doesn't bear comparison to shows like Sopranos and the Wire, in my opinion. Shame you never gave them a try, agree with you though that lots of American TV is over-hyped. Problem is that UK programmes (dramas i mean mainly) rarely get an extended run, so can't match the way US dramas develop characters and really engrossing story lines over time. British shows that do get a longer run (Downton I guess being the recent example) I find achingly dull. They are always quite parochial period-piece borefests. I'm not saying there aren't good shows made in UK, just that most of the good ones tend to only have a few episodes then they are gone.

the sopranos ,the wire and breaking bad are far and above anything produced in this country in decades
far from being glossy and humourless they are the kind of gritty ,thought provoking dramas that this country used to excel in funnily enough the wire is littered with english actors playing americans and the poitical situation and the gang culture could easily be applied to any city in Britain ,the sopranos deals with many pyschological issues from the point of view of the alpha male and its very easy to relate to the main character even though he is a mob boss in new jersey and far easier to relate to than a posh lord and his servants living in a mansion ,breaking bad is a story of a maths teacher who finds out he has cancer and uses his biology skills to make crystal meth and again i find it far easier to relate to someone wrestling with the moral rights and wrongs of his situation than someone deciding which petticoat to wear to the cucumber sandwich parade

Brits are actually scattered all over American TV. Damian Lewis in Homeland, Hugh Laurie in House and Kelly Macdonald in Boardwalk Empire are other examples.
