Right back is a very different position in South America than here. Roberto Carlos instead of Lee Dixon. Perhaps Parrino can learn a different style or perhaps he can play elsewhere. I would like to fit him in somewhere as he can play football.

Is that Fabregas sitting next to him?

I wondered who it was for a moment and got excited about some Spanish flair.

Then I realised it was Carlos Pomares.

Elian Parrino is back at Bramall Lane after the Blades strengthened ties with top Argentine club, Estudiantes de la Plata.

The versatile defender, 22, has signed a year's deal and returns after impressing when playing nine times during a loan spell with United last season.

He told sufc.co.uk: "I'm really happy to be back, I want to play in England because I enjoyed it here last season - the stadiums, facilities and fans are fantastic. It was about three weeks ago when I heard that there was a chance to come back and I made it known that's what I wanted.

"I didn't play so much last year but my time with United certainly helped me become a better player and hopefully the fans will get to see that. I'm better now physically, mentally and technically."

The relationship between Estudiantes and United has a number of interesting facets. It began with former Blade Alex Sabella, who recently was appointed as manager of the Argentine national team, at the helm of Estudiantes which helped instigate relations.

Estudiantes captain Juan Sebastian Veron's uncle, Pedro Verde, also played for the Blades and Veron himself is said to have dreamed of playing for the Blades as a young boy.

Estudiantes legend Juan Ramon Veron, father of Juan Sebastian, an ambassador for the Argentines commented: "We are very keen to continue this relationship with Sheffield United and pleased to see Elian return to England.

"We will be watching and supporting Elian from Argentina. We here at Estudiantes would like to thank all the people involved and hope this will lead to opportunity for more of our young talented players and benefit for both clubs."

I find it interesting that Wilson doesn't appear to have commented on this signing.

Yes, I thought the same when I read it. Very much a move to help continue the ties between the two teams, than someone that Wilson presumably was desperate to sign. Still, we know what he can do, and Wilson seems so far to have had an open mind on all of the players in the squad, so I'm sure if Wilson feels he's good enough that he'll play. Though Wilson seems for the time-being set on the back 4. But given Kozluk is still yet to sign, any injury at the back and he's presumably first in line to fill-in.

Is he on loan or have we signed him permanently. The OS does not make it clear.

Presumably a loan, given that Estudiantes will be monitoring his progress.

Happy with this signing to be honest. It opens up a few options playing wise.

Good move I think.

Hopefully he can stay fit but at least it is only a one year deal anyway.

The thing is Loughboro', if Wilson is being hamstrung by our wage bill and therefore needing to offload now that we have brought a few in, he would want any extra budget to be spent on the players he wants.

To have one parachuted in might not put him in the best of moods, although I'm all for the signing if it is in place of Kozzy.

I would hazard a guess that it's the same arrangement as last year, but SUFC are scared to use the word 'LOAN' this time around, as it was this dastardly term that was solely responsible for our relegation last season.

Probably the same deal and as last year, these deals don't fall under the loan rules. So that maybe why they don't mention it as a loan.

Anyway decent enough signing, he may not be the exact guy DW would want and it maybe a deal to keep relations with our Argey friends all well. But what Eilan will offer is cover at the back at CB and RB. He'll also fit DW's style, at times Parrino showed he had some good ability on the ball and he looks comfortable with passing it around. He's far from a finished article but he has some very good potential. Also he's wages won't be anything silly.

well from this it seems a permanent signing "Sheffield United have completed the signing of Elian Parrino from Argentinian club Estudiantes de la Plata. The versatile defender, 22, who had a spell on loan at Bramall Lane last season, has signed a one-year deal with the club. Parrino told the club's official website: "I'm really happy to be back. I want to play in England because I enjoyed it here last season - the stadiums, facilities and fans are fantastic. It was about three weeks ago when I heard that there was a chance to come back and I made it known that's what I wanted. "I didn't play so much last year, but my time with United certainly helped me become a better player and hopefully the fans will get to see that. I'm better now physically, mentally and technically. Parrino made nine appearances, including eight starts, for the Blades during January and February last season."

which i saw i was surprised becasue from the radio/journelist bloke from Estudiantes i heard from he said it was 1 year loan but im glad its seems it a 1 year deal & we own parrino

He can't be on much, and I doubt we'd have done this deal if it hampers DW's ability to sign someone else. It's possible that Estudiantes will be paying some of the wages.

Sky are just regurgitating the lack of clarity on the OS. A deal can mean a permanent deal, or a loan deal. Had he been signed on a '1 year contract' I'd be inclined to agree that it's permanent. In the absence of that though, I still think it's a loan, and I thought this was what was referred to when Radio Sheffield discussed it the other week when they interviewed DW.

Speculation or information?

so long as it doesnt turn out to be a Tevez style deal ,3rd party ARGENTINIAN ownership we wouldnt want our club caught up in anything like that ,,,,,,,oh shit

I always thought he could play well, so I'm happy he's back.

Right back or center back cover. Anyone Know are we assuming both?

I wondered who it was for a moment and got excited about some Spanish flair.

Then I realised it was Carlos Pomares.

I remember when we signed Pomares from Spain a few years back, he featured in the Youth Cup games, but how close is he to the first team? Looked a season or two away from being a first teamer. Is that unfair?

With Parrino he's one of those "raw" players like Naughton, Walker and Jags were and Lowton is. Parrino looks to me like a fullback, but if he fills out and learns the game a little more, then he could be slotted in across the defence and midfield, good to have the versatile players able to slot in around the spine.

With potential exciting players on the wing, Lowton and Parrino at fullbacks, pushing on then we have the starts of a 4-3-3/ 3-4-3. The options are open.

At times when we're going forward in numbers we could end up with Lowton/ Parrino pushing on and overlapping the wingers and the back 3 of Collins-Maguire with Monty slotting in. When this sort of flexible formation works it can be excellent to watch... It can also be a disaster, but as we're being positive at the moment then lets assume that the handwork on the training ground will pay off
