[Confirmed] Dave Kitson Signs

Maybe a winger will arrive when the loan window re-opens but, even if they don't, I'm looking forward to MacDonald having an outlet to aim for up front, like he did last year with Ched.

Don't get it.

Porter couldn't get in the starting XI last season but we offer him a new deal. We then bring in 3 new strikers. We then bend over backwards to keep Cresswell. We now bring in Kitson.

I can understand the money angle where Kitson is concerned and this deal has probably been simmering since the end of last season but I just don't get why we re-signed Porter.

As we've been playing with a midfield diamond formation this season, it's possible that we won't sign a "winger" at all.
I suspect one of the SIX strikers will drop into Quinn's position "in the hole"', at least in the short-term.
Miller would seem to be best suited for this position? Or Creswell maybe?

I did wonder why the Academy were playing this formation, if the first team weren't going to.
Maybe this is Danny's long-term preference and he instructed Pembo to play that way also for continuity?

Very true. I think Blackman has played in a similar position in the past at previous clubs, so he may well be suitable for it.

I suppose when we do go with the straight 4-4-2 (which I wouldn't be surprised to see today), we'll see Mcfadzean or Creswell wide left. Or Miller maybe.

Agree totally Kitson is striker number 6 now and we just got rid of the best supply.

In the past Danny Wilson has played with a target man alongside a goalscorer/quick striker. If Porter was fit now he may well have been Wilson's first choice for the target man role. Kitson may need even longer to get match fit, while Cressy may be considered a bit part player this season. I reckon Wilson's pecking order in the near future will be:

Target man: Porter, Kitson, Cresswell, Ironside

Goalgetter: Blackman, Cofie, Miller

I think we have a strong selection of strikers now, but are desperate for a quick winger.

If a manager doesn't have money for fees then it's harder to fill specific gaps in the squad.

It was said that we would see a different style this season, but then again Willo and Quinn were never touchline huggers themselves. Perhaps we'll see the strikers filling the wide areas more, maybe even in a 4-3-3. Or possibly our existing wide men will be given a chance. We'll find out....

Whatever happens, a fit Kitson could be very useful, and it not we bin him at chrimbo. No harm.

so do I ,maybe Wilson wants a winger but no-one was available to suit our needs financially and football wise. Its not like friggin computer games or shopping down the supermarket. Then again some people just like to have a good old fucking moan at everything Sheffield Utd. Maybe we can find the next Lowton or Kyle ,but there will still be moans about lack of ambition blah blah. We are in the 3rd division and skint partly due to a previous manager spending money we havent got on loads of wingers and never playing them even when we had them on loan. Last week we were moaning about lack of experience up front ,we rehire Cresswell and get Kitson ,to help the young strikers and now its the end of Sheffield United. FFS as the young uns say.

If he's even 50% of the player he used to be, he will be a major asset. This guy was a high quality centre-forward and a real leader on and off the pitch. He's 6-3, powerful, leads the line intelligently and scores goals. He also maintains our mandatory ginger player ratio as required by the EU [Footballers Hair] Regulations 1996.

As for his age, 32 is hardly ancient for a modern footballer. He's seven years younger than Kevin Phillips, who people have wanted us to sign for.......well.....seven years.

Best of all, he's articulate, well read and a fan of fine wine and Shakespeare. He never uses 'should of' in his newspaper column. I'm going to make him Life President of RAPFA!

Hes a gravel faced grade 4 ginger. I think its clear from recent performances Cofie and Blackman need someone to hold the ball up besides them. Dont have any problem with this signing. Bournemouths striker tommorow (who could play) is 40.

Please tell me this is a wind up ??? Kitson FFS what happened to the only signing "YOUNG" players ? Actually Porter has a better scoring record than Kitson recently. Since leaving Reading 118 appearances and 20 goals in the last four years, 32 yr old must have got a 3 yr deal ................. fookin hell :(
I wasn't sure how to feel about this signing until I read your post. Now I know it's a good thing.

As anyone from Woodseats will know, he also worked in the Poseidon chip shop for several years.

Hasn't Pinchy nailed this one, or am I just a clapper ? Seems to me that, even at 50% his old self, he would give us the best bits of Cresswell and Porter combined, plus a bit more. Has he played in the third division ? If he's fit, with Blackman playing off him, he might look a class apart.

As for the Porter mystery, I may have got my dates arse backwards (wouldn't be the first time), but wasn't he signed quite early in the summer, before any of the other strikers, when not much else was on the radar, at a time when the lack of cash for the coming season was becoming frighteningly clear, and Cresswell looked like being shown the door. In other words, an insurance policy (a "Horsfield").

Fook me. Have we learnt nothing from Bent and Beattie?? What is it about signing has been's/never been's in the twighlight their career. Kitson played his best football seven years ago and has done bugger all since. Now we are offering him a deal. We bring in a 32 year old that his way past his best, when we have 18 other strikers. The only good thing about this is that it is a short term deal. Oh and he has ginger hair I suppose. People can say, what have we go to lose, he was quality, he'll tear this division apart and la de da. However, it is another BT situation.

He won't be on the same money and we can ditch him much earlier if needed. I wouldn't bet against a silly red card though. :)

Think it's a nice deal for the Secret Footballer sorry Kitson. Experience and like others have a said a Target Man to supply goals and assists for our younger guys up with him.

:D KOC would be proud of that one Houso

Never doubted him min sen

Has Kitson done enough now to suggest that we should be trying to extend his contract.
After all, he is our first choice striker. Two goals in the last two matches. Gradually getting fitter.
Championship clubs could start sniffing around if we don't get him tied up for longer soon.
The last thing we need is to lose our star striker/main goalscorer at a vital stage of the season (yet again!)

I personally think that's up to Kitson. The short term contract will not have been all our own doing that's for certain.

Understandably, he'll still want football at a higher level and I'd wager that his current wages are far below what he's enjoyed previously.

Well you all know my views on Kitson, scored nearly as many as he did all last season so he hasn't lost the know how and he will get better as he gets fitter. Now I would hate to see him just use us to get himself fit, if he is scoring we should try our best to make it a season long deal, for sure he has done more in a few games than Beattie did in all his time with us last season.

if we don't sign him up ASAP, he'll be off quicker than a priests belt at the songs of praise young boys choir of the year show.

lets be honest here. the rest of our strikers couldnt score at a weight watchers christmas party. we need the ginger ninja til the end of the season.

I've been more than happy with the signing of Dave Kitson so far, and we can keep him fit, and playing relatively well he is good for 20 goals this season.

I've just read the secret footballer book, after reading the secret footballer column for quite a while, and i really don't think it can be anyone else but Dave Kitson.
