So the much anticipated clear out that is being praised by many sees us ship out 3 young, promising and sought after players signed only in the summer and leaves us with the dross we’ve had for years that have played a crucial role in us being relegated, spending a 3rd season in League 1 and if we’re not careful a further relegation. Way to go Nigel.

Yes, let's just loan out the best winger at the club to a side chasing promotion. Whilst we sit dangerously close to the drop. I personally hope he proves everyone wrong in his loan spell and shows us what we have been missing.

Weir bought shit ,so did Wilson ,and the previous 2 ,Clough has to get rid of them. Simple

Agreed, to a point. The only small tinge of disappointment being that there remains an element of doubt about the complete shiteness of some of the more recent signings / departures. Most of the older guard (that we're so far left with) have removed all doubt.

I wish we were chasing the playoffs and loaning back one of our best shit players from the previous season to give us a better chance of going up...

I thought he was the only one offering something different, he has the ability to change a game, something with perhaps the exception of Baxter, no one else can do. I would have kept him as an impact sub, there are many others who could go out on loan before him.

He certainly changed the game by getting sent off.

Apart from that, did he do anything positive for us?

He’s not getting rid of shit though, he’s got rid of 3 lads with a handful of starts between them (none, if any, under his management) and leaving us with the wank that got us in this position in the first place.

One of my Derby supporting mates reckons that everybody would get a chance with Nigel Clough, but if they didn't take it, they'd be finished at the club. That would seem to fit with Brandy and that's good enough for me.
That happened to Danny Wilson, Gary Megson, Justin Fashanu, David Currie, Ian Wallace, Asa Hartford, Peter Ward and some more not long after signing for Forest under Nige's dad

If they're not able to push their way ahead of the likes of Murphy and Doyle, then the strong likelihood is that they are, in fact, even wankerer. :)

Gonna trust NC on this one. We don't see the full picture of what goes on behind the scenes so have no idea really - maybe he wasn't good in training/attitude ? maybe he was disruptive ? who knows......

I find it slightly ironic that both Brandy and Cuvelier, who can't break into the 1st XI of a relegation threatened side have both been snapped up almost immediately by two sides who could be argued have realistic aims of promotion given their current respective league position.

12 minutes vs Shrewsbury
18 minutes vs Swindon
5 minutes vs Walsall

He screwed up on his first chance, but has the current management seen him fail enough to write him off?

I'm extremely disappointed with Mr Brandy as i thought he was a good signing at the time and his display against Atromitos in the pre season friendly was very promising and i predicted he would set league 1 alight this season....but sadly not!
He has been poor to say the least and he is surely a lot better than this?

Obviously I've not seen him much but to me all he brought was a strong desire to dive and an even stronger idiot switch which caused him to get red cards and long suspensions during which we still had to pay him.

It may be that his lack of sense and strange attitude are real factors in his quick exits from an unusually high number of previous clubs for a chap of his tender years. I can't remember the exact number but recall the list was quite long.

The doctors say I will never recover from the effects of Brandy's miss against MK Dons. Have the visitors gone yet?

Good riddance. They can keep him. Incidentally, I assume the same Walsall fans who booed him on New Years Day will be creaming themselves over him tonight?

As a Walsall fan, I can assure you the answer is yes. Especially when Brandy gives us the extra dimension to get us into the play offs.

He ripped defences apart for us last season, when we persisted with him, and built his confidence after a slow start. Perhaps we just have a decent manager that can get the best out of players? He's done it with many other cast offs, a few from non league Hereford.

Dean Smith asked the players if they were happy to have him back this time, and they gave Smith their approval so presumably he's not a dressing room trouble maker either.

As for Cuvelier - a truly class act. The only downside is he only really excels playing behind a front man/two. Again, it's about mangers getting the best from players, not just signing players rated elsewhere then not having a clue what to do with them. It is a team game after all.

You could do well to remember that before writing players off. It can't help your aim to be successful.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

With who's gone and still perhaps another to go, that's around 10 players gone all told with just the one in

I've no doubt there's more to come in, but the worry for me is not the quantity, it's the calibre of who comes and the fact we'll have a smaller squad with a higher percentage and more reliant on loans and we all know too well how they've contributed to our performances in recent seasons (with a couple of exceptions)

It.s ok saying clear all the crap out but Cloughs policy of stating that he only intends bringing in players that will improve us, better ring true and tbh, I have some doubt

Brandy has not performed for SUFC, simple as. I can only judge him on what I have seen, home and away.

Smith has done an excellent job at the Bescot, and I am surprised that as an ex - player for them, the pork have not been interested in him as their next manager. Clearly Mandaric doesn't want Gray to have the job, despite their relative upsurge in form and their demolition job on LUFC.

Cuvelier also has not done it for me, but perhaps he will be a hit back at Walsall? Walsall have got a very decent side which Smith has put together, and despite our defeat, I found it one of the more enjoyable away days this season, including visiting your excellent social club, where there was a warm welcome.

Guess he's not up for the fight.
Hope we do get someone in as we need goals.

I wanted DS when Weir left, not sure he would've come but you'd like to have thought we'd have had a chance. Knows the division and plays good attacking football. Not saying I'm unhappy with Clough but he would've been a good choice.

Think we'll see a resurgence in Brandy and he'll do another good job at Walsall.

I just can't write Cuvelier off given that he hasn't had a proper chance, even less so in his proper position. I can only think that NC doesn't see him contributing to a 'scrap' given his stature but to be honest he couldn't be any less tough that the current set of nesh fuckers that are playing. Seems crazy that we've invested in a player yet the management don't know what to do with him. You could say Clough didn't sign him but he will have been picked out by John Stephenson much like any of his 'own' signings have been.

I seriously hope he's got some quality lined up because the warning from Derby fans that he tends to bomb out flair players is slowly ringing true.

Aye, Smith might not have been a bad choice, but much like Slade at Orient, he has had time to put a team together at a club where there will not be the expectation level there is here.

This Stevenson character who is part of the transfer dealings seems to me to be as responsible as the previous manager(s) for the poor quality of player currently on our payroll.

I'm surprised Wendy haven't gone for Smith too. The problem supporting Walsall is that there's always a bigger club able to attract your best players, although we've never had a manager leave us immediately for a bigger move, we usually sack them! There is a feeling that Smith is a man of integrity, and that he wants to continue "the project" at Walsall, and we all hope that will be the case.

I can understand that thought about Cuvelier based on his stature, but he was strong on the ball for us. He must be a little robust for Sjoke to have had him!

Nigel reminds me very much of Danny Wilson in his second season with us, a team full of solid, reliable players playing a very rigid way. No room for the so called mavericks. This is fine in our situation, and indeed Derby's when he took them over.

What concerns me is can he progress on from this or will we be stuck with it?

A Brandy or Cuvelier may not be particularly right for a roll your sleeves up relegation scrap, but they could be very much an asset in the future should we be aiming for promotion

so where will Brandy play if Murphys in ?
and who would you play Cuvelier in place of ?

As long as we keep the back four and want to stick with Baxter just behind the main striker, I'd want the following roles:

Right Winger....... Box-to-box.......Holding playmaker.........Left winger

My first choice:

Brandy.........Coady..........McGinn............Murphy

Back up:

Flynn............Cuvelier..........Doyle............McFadzean

I think what we tried on Saturday is the league's slowest midfield:

Coady.........McGinn.........Doyle...........Flynn

Cuvelier was instrumental in our fight against relegation when Smith took us over when we were many points from safety. He's up for a fight alright. As was another flair player Ledesma, now at Middlesborough.
