As an aside - I thought that (under Warnock) we used to pride ourselves in being 'top' of the cards table?

Sorry DJ but we have a shit squad that needs major surgery before its too late and we get relegated. What do you suggest we do put an ark around the poor wee lambs and say it will be alright? All tye teams you mention aren't in a battle to stay out of the 4th division so I honestly don't give a shit about them. Brandy looked half decent before he started throwing his small frame around and the other bloke has a nice name but I have seen precisely fuck all that says we should nail our future on his boots. How many players are we gonna write off as crap because they didn't do it with us? Our fans sound like the type of bloke who gets a girlfriend and say "she was rubbish in bed/argumentative etc." when she leaves and goes on to better things. Like I said in another post; Cotterill, Britton and McDonald all got criticism after they left and deemed not good enough for our 'big club' (I hate that term).
The cold hard fact is our clubs transfer policy is a contributary factor to the mess we're in. Clubs like Walsall, Brentford, Yeovil, Leyton Orient etc. have all done much better with their players with a lot less resources. Writing off players like Brandy and Cuvelier is ignorant and the excuses we make like they couldn't play infront of a bigger crowd is bollocks. We need to work with these players, be patient with 'em and give them a fair chance before we condemn them as not good enough.

If it clears the decks for better players why are we moaning about the loss of players who quite frankly I wouldn't pay in buttons.
I think some of you missed my point. Why was he petulant for you in a few games, but not for all for all of last season? Poor discipline at the club? Frustrating at poor players around him? Not sure, but the person hasn't changed.
Anyway, sponsors MOTM tonight, although wouldn't have been mine in the end, but made a difference and played a big part in our goal.
Top 6 now, with more to come. If you all want rid of him so much, we'll be able to offer Championship football to him next season. Tara a bit.
How can you slag off Cuvellier have you seen him under Clough, everybody looked pants under Weir
Will it clear the decks for better players ? Lets get White back on loan FFS, whilst we are at it Im sure Lappin would come back
If you go up, i'll show by bare arse in Burtons window.

I take my hat off to Walsall and their Management/ team...they are doing a great job.there is something wrong at the Lane....Brandy is a good player, quick feet, can cause hell to defences...we saw him as a big threat when we played them last season..he showed great promise in the first game of the season and then something happened..I hope he gets his career back on track at Walsall who I think have done good by him to give him the chance to go back. I feel the same about Cuvelier..he is very talented but is taking time to settle...he had a horrible start to his time ,with Weir at the helm..given the chance he will flourish.....You made my point much better. No wonder you're struggling if fans write talented players off so quickly because they don't perform miracles immediately.
The rest of you keep it up, it makes things much easier for the rest of us, if you have players underperforming because they're not "supported". Are you fans or supporters?
Big club/Wolves fan type comment. I'll remember this post, and will hold you to that.
We've been up before when Man City were down here, and Fulham, Wigan were spending millions, then beat Reading in the play off final whose side cost £8m and ours cost £20,000. Ring any bells? Teams don't go up based on crowd sizes or money spent. Ask Yeovil, and Orient don't look a bad bet.
We've beaten every team above us in the league over the last 12 months.
Could you explain why you think we wont go up?
Oh fuck off you boring twat.
Cos you aren't good enough. Nothing to do with club sizes, i said in the play offs Yeovil would beat us. Orient may well go up, you won't. Not got a good enough squad. Will finish 8th-10th. Happy New Year.
I'm watching this thread with interest...
Do let me know if you think I should be declaring open season.
That is a good quote explaining why some small clubs do better than big clubs. That is something we have not had for years. We had that from 1970 to 1973 when John Harris preferred a small squad and didnt sign many players. I miss that
Let's be honest mush, coming on here and calling yourself Barry Blunt wasn't the best start now was it?
It's called a sense of humour. .
Yep, hilarious. Barry Cunt would be more apt
As you say, Walsall are doing quite well but you get your rocks off by posting on a Sheffield United forum. You then seem perturbed when people then tell you to "do one". Odd.It's always the uneducated who bite most, and resort to swearing.
Not a "pig" at all. A genuine Walsall fan. It depends if by pond, do you mean club or league?
If he stays with us he has more chance of being in the bigger Championship pond next season.
Bassett and Warnock were different because both were wheelerdealers and they played a different style of football than we did under Harris. Both Bassett and Warnock's squads were "quantity rather than quality" type but were successful only in the short term while Harris had strong small squad (more quality than quantity) between 1959 to 1964, then brought in a lot of homegrown players who could hold their own in the 1st division until we sold Mick Jones (Harris was disgusted with the sale and wanted to resign) then had another strong small squad when he returned as manager in 1969 until 1973. In the mid 1960s our attendances dropped cos many Blades fans were fed up of Harris' youth policy even though the board tried to make him sign stars.Barry Blunt said: ↑
"A tight knit togetherness between club, manager, players and fans. An all-in-it-together spirit that gets the best from players."
We certainly had that in 2002-2003 under Warnock and 1989-1993 under Bassett.

Our cup record between 1969 and 1973 was poor and I agree with that. Harris team finished in 5th place in 1962 and his cup record was good in his first spell and I was too young to have any recollection of these years. More of Harris players were at SUFC for many seasons in the top division (9 seasons at the top in his full 13 seasons in his two spells)As I've said before, I would have loved to have seen the Harris team of 69 to 73 but ultimately they only finished 10th and Bassett's team of the early 90's finished higher and did much better in the cups.
The phrase above about team spirit and getting the best from players describes Bassett (and Warnock's) management style perfectly, regardless of how many players they used and their style of play.
