Confession Time: Things You Got Wrong

Inspired by the Wilder thread from August.

Have you ever made a prediction or held a viewpoint that proved to be spectacularly wrong?

In 2011 I was incensed at Danny Wilsons appointment, not because of his Pig connections but because of his crap managerial record.
Who did I want instead? Mark Robins, Mark...fucking...Robins.

So, what are yours?
Same.

Following our family tradition of naming our cat after United centre forwards.

After 'Dearden' came 'Edwards' and then two weeks before he left we named our latest ginger Tomcat 'Deano'...

Never did fall in love with that cat...

I remember seeing us beat Bristol City in 2011 towards the end of our relegation season and thinking we had a really bright future with all the kids coming through such as Maguire and Slew.

Aston Villa away in the premier league. Singing with 3k others 'We don't give a fuck, we're staying up' at 3-0 down

attempting to land a paraglider in the lee of a hill - cue one broken ankle

After watching Michael Higdon play 45 minutes against Bristol City I said “He’s just what we’ve been crying out for”.

Me too. I thought that was a really good signing.

Going back a few years, I thought Dane Whitehouse was really lightweight when he first came through, and would never amount to anything.

I also thought we'd beat Palace in the 1997 playoff final. I couldn't believe how we didn't turn up. I was also confident for the Wolves game...until I got in the ground and got this feeling of dread when I saw the Wolves fans.

Jean Philippe Javary's Barcelona connections had me convinced we had a world beater on the books. I can only assume he went through their basketball youth programme cos he was wank at football.

I always liked Javary. Was disappointed when we didn’t keep him on. No idea what became of him when he left us though.

He captained the Thierry Henry in the French youth team you know.

thought Adkins would be good.. i did bail early though. i don't trust management speak about 'geese'

I thought Michael Tonge would become an absolute world beater.

Adkins, Hammond, Danny Wilson, thought Don Givens would score, thought we`d win all our Fa cup semis and Play off finals, thought we wouldn`t lose to Wigan in the Prem, Clough to lead us back into the Championship, Micky Adams great appointment, Neil Warnock peaked at Notts County, Martin Peters knows his stuff,Forte & Ian Ross will play for England, Don`t rate Harry Maguire or Kyle Walker in our youth team, Long is going to our keeper for years to come, got to sell Ched (after relegation), no way will Ched be convicted etc etc

Think I`ll stop making predictions...

I was wrong about Billy Sharp.

I was also wrong about drinking some milk that was on the turn.

I remember seeing Jonathon Forte scoring an top quality goal at 18 in a pre season friendly v Tottenham and I thought we had got a top, top quality player on our hands.

I also thought when we resigned Billy Sharp that he was an expensive mistake who had been found out and his best years were behind him.

Indeed, he banged one in against Italy for his International side Luxembourg too, merely glimpses of the talent that the intelligent watchers picked up on ;)

and today against Holland. #baller.

I lumped a tenner on 1-3 today when we were 1-0 down! Damn you Leon Clarke!!
