This has not been a good transfer window.

Lowe and Bogle are backup full-backs for £10 million when it's clear that Stevens and Baldock won't get dropped no matter what.

Way overpaid for Ramsdale at £18 million with Fotheringham as a rubbish back up goalkeeper

No replacement for JOC and no decent midfielder.

Brewster: Jury still out.

Brewster will smash it 🎆

We'd be better with some sort of director of football type role, to help us transform our scouting and help with premier league transfers.
Paul Mitchell pretty much does that without being called that, I think he's 'Head Scout' or something.
Having a DoF will divert more resources out of the transfer budget with no guarantee of greater success.

Double post my internet really playing up at the moment.

Isn't Mitchell's experience largely in the lower leagues too? Obviously we don't see what goes on behind the scenes, but imho we are lacking in experience of top level recruitment.

4 games gone, won 0, scored once, main player in defence is out, signings aren't being played, insisting on Lunwank, no attacking noose, no player who can genuinely turn the tide of the game. So yeah, down imo.
Your not him r u 😂 😂 😂

Nah mate, do love the show though hahaha. Just being realistic matey. As much as I'd like us to stay up, I just can't see it.
I tell ur theres a long way to go, yes we are in a relegation battle, Brewsters a natural goal scorer , this team is good enough to stop up we just need to get going , we really do need to win against Fulham , but I really do believe we will stop up . Prediction for Sunday 2-1 Blades and Brewster will start and score 😲

There is a long way to go, but I just feel we'll be well behind by Christmas, Brewster is a natural goalscorer.. but he's never done it in the premier League, has similar scoring records to MCB (if you average out his goalscoring to a full season, not half a season like he played. Just think throwing the weight of us staying up on an inexperienced young player is a bit unfair. We've all slagged the strikers off, but barely anyone actually sees the issue is further back. We create 0 service for our strikers from midfield. That's the issue, not the current crop of strikers. Fair enough, strikers should be able to make their own chances, but you're talking 40m minimum for a striker of top top quality.

I would say that overall that makes him more talented, it's easy to pick out quality in a team full of top players but spotting the lad who doesn't look as good as he is because he's covering for others takes a keener eye. It's easy to see VVD is (usually) a top quality defender but is Jayden Bogle? If you have £80m to spend it takes a lot of the risk out of the business.

If everyone who expresses an unpopular opinion on here then has to argue it and justify it to all those who hold the popular opinion, you might as well bin the thread off now.
Nothing wrong with explaining or being asked to explain an opinion.
If your response is 'it just is', then people have a measure for whether they should agree or not.
If the response is a well worded paragraph with good points then more people can join your cause.

most people on here don't want their opinion to be questioned and certainly won't change it (publicly) even with overwhelming evidence.

People are confessing their unpopular opinions. They already know the majority of other people have a different opinion. Otherwise they wouldn't post the opinion on a thread entitled "confess your unpopular opinion".
The point of this thread is not for people to take on the majority to try and get them to change their minds. They might not want to place themselves in the firing line for an opinion they already know is a minority opinion. The "overwhelming evidence" is likely only other people's opinions anyway.
I got into questioning someone's "unpopular opinion" earlier in the thread and it was pointless, I shouldn't have done it because it wasn't someone trying to prove something to others, it was just someone confessing a doubt.
Let the arguments rage on other threads and maybe leave these "confession" threads for people to out themselves for having some minority, odd and inexplicable opinions. 🤷‍♂️

Okay so my issue is based on the business we've done since promotion. We've spent quite a bit of money, it's not huge by Premier league standards, but a lot for us. And if I'm being brutally honest, I don't actually think we're that much better (starting 11 wise) than we were 2 years ago. In league one and championship we got absolutely brilliant value. Look at : Fleck, JOC, Duffy, Enda, Baldock, Egan etc etc. Coast about 5 million for the lot, probably over 89 million quids worth now.

Now look at who we've signed in since promotion (in no particular order).
  • Robinson, sold for a loss
  • Freeman, loaned out
-Moose, good when fit but that's not often
  • McBurnie, I quite like him but no way would we get anything like our money back
  • Berge, I think he'll be a great player, but he hasn't improved us much

Since promotion have we signed a single player who has been a success?

To me that says we're great at EFL dealings, but not at premier league dealing..

P. S.

I've got no issues with being questioned. I realise that my standpoint is harsh and happy to put my points across. Like pretty much any debate, I realise that we never change anyone's mind and we will always stick to our preconceptions.

Them pigs have made some decent signings and will BASICALLY PISS ON OUR 'KIN CHIPS!!!

FFS😞

Wilder is stubborn, has an ego, plays favourites and treats players differently depending on his opinion of them, such as the Duffy and Lundstram contract situations. Claims we don’t hide when often times we do, claims we go after teams when we often do anything but. Last season we were always set up not to lose. We should have taken at least a dozen more points last year, and would have qualified for Europe if we’d been braver and attack minded in games that were there for the taking.

Beat that!

That's a good argument but I think United's problem still comes down to what we are willing to pay for transfer fees and wages. I also agree with you regarding the signings, I was really hoping for more 'under the radar' but good transfers. I didn't want any of our main targets for various reasons though I grudgingly accepted McBurnie in the hope he would blossom, still hoping. Never understood the fuss about Freeman and Robinson was a half season wonder (up to that point so a huge risk). Mousset was worth taking a chance on for the money. The only striker I could really suggest we should sign was Mitrovic and even at that time he was out of reach and with what has occurred since then doubly so. At this point regarding strikers I'm looking in the European leagues for somebody who has hit 10 goals in the Bundesliga or Serie A, so not much help at finding a solution, having said that it's not my job to find players so you'd hope for more from our people, let's hope the Argentina link (almost forgotten about that) throws something up for us in January.
