Is it a trend or a one off situation?

I don't follow stats that closely to but to constitute a trend I think you need more than one comparable.

Next season we all start with 0 points, except any penniless clubs going into admin (are you watching Cardiff and Forest).

There will be 6 different teams in the league and all 24 teams will have a number of different players to this season. (some more than others)

The results from last season will have absolutely no consequence come August and therefore the trend, if indeed it be a trend, is completely irrelevant.

OK - so we did worse than last season, but did a little better than in 2007/8.

Hardly a trend of continuing "to slide backwards again".
