We've had some great cups runs of late and put in some brilliant performances. Our players, to a man, have given 150% dedication and commitment, have been determined to win the first ball and never gave up.

In the league, they never seem committed or determined,, let alone giving 100%

Regardless of manager, it seems to me that there's a real deep problem with our players. Why do we get outfought in this league yet can battle past better teams (who are normally physically stronger and better athletes)? Are they all bertie big-bollocks who only want to play when on TV (I'm looking at you Jose) or is there something inherently wrong with our set-up?

You would think that the first game of a new season, with a new manager, and with players given fresh opportunities, that they'd all be fighting to win. Not being out-gunned in every area by an average League 1 side.

Our team has no character. You can look at Jose all you like, but they're all guilty today.

I only mention Jose because if you watch him play against a premiership team he comes off after 70 minutes looking like he's run a marathon and about to have a heart attack.

After a league game, he looks like his gentle 90 minute stroll has worked up a healthy appetite.

There are very few players who try as much in league games as they do in big cup games.

This current crop are the most pathetic I've known in almost 25 years following this club. I can put up with losing- not much option being a Blade- but I've never seen a side so toothless and gutless as the past couple of years.
We might have been crap at times under Warnock and Blackwell but we still had players who would run through brick walls for the cause and never knew when they were beaten.
What I wouldn't give to have a Geary, a Morgan or a Montgomery figure in the team right now. A bit of fucking backbone isn't too much to expect.

You were doing well until you mentioned Monty ;)

I agree to a certain extent. I think going to Morgan's testimonial, and when he came on for just those few minutes at the end, reminded me what character, commitment and leadership is in a footballer. God how we need another Morgs at the moment!! Just one or two players like this can drag a whole team with them.

They can be as committed as you like...if they're not good enough, shape up or ship em out...

I'll tell you what though, Monty had his limitations to say the least, but at his best he broke up the oppositions momentum very well and did all the ugly jobs, and he had character. That's why many fans had affection for him when he left.
Almost any one of this current team could leave and the door couldn't hit their arse quick enough.

Only listened on Bladesplayer, but the goalkeeper. back four, midfield and front two were completely bossed by Gillingham from the first minute to the last so NA is correct in saying collectively that they weren't good enough.. KE said that Gillingham won 90% of the 50/50 tackles which certainly isn't not good enough, but no surprise our players are lightweight and easily knocked off the ball and to get out of this league that cant be allowed to continue.

If these players gave their all every game, we'd go up this season, and we'd have gone up last season.

I'm sorry, I disagree..and so does Adkins as he said 'these players are not good enough to go up'

On this evidence it would appear that he's right...

Then its up to him to do something about it. IMO the first game 3 points are as important as the last game 3 points .

The only positive is that you can do something about it , at the beginning of the season.

Billy Sharp's probably the nearest we've got to a leader right now. Which pretty much says it all.

If these players aren't good enough to go up, and he claims he's watched many of the games from last season, how do you explain the fact he's not addressed it or that he made one of the most 'not good enough' players our captain?

I wouldn't have played Baxter until at least September considering the fuck up he made with the drug 'spiking'. Let's all be fair, Baxter shouldn't have been in a position to get a drink spiked just like McNulty was an innocent victim when he got twatted, you don't put yourself into those places...

And let's be fair, James Wallace is the best thing going, surely he was fit....

Yep, I agree...he's dropped a bollock or the players have let him down or both...

He judged that defence to be good enough to compete in L1 based on training and friendlies...

RE: Captain...perhaps McEverley's the best option available of the fit players/senior players?

I believe him when he says he's trying to get the right players in...perhaps he'll change his targets now and simply get in better than we have here now...

He's club captain for the season, which suggests that he believes he's good enough to hold down a regular first team place. Which is worrying, especially at CB.

Well he's a LB filling in isn't he...I'm sure he has a lot of qualities which justify him being club captain, whether he has enough qualities to maintain a place in the starting eleven, well I'm not so sure..

...everyone agree's this should have been sorted..I can only think Adkins has players lined up as his no.1 choice who aren't available yet...who knows.!?!??

Adkins is no soft touch , and will feel embarressed and massivley let down. I think a number of players on the coach home , will deep down realise , that they will be no longer in his plans , surplus to requirements , and there time is up at SUFC .

The sad thing is , they have not got the character to fight back , but IMO just accept it , take the money , until there contracts are up. The players didnt help Clough , and its certainly evident today , they didnt help Adkins.

My shock has turned to anger now. Luckily my boy is keeping me on an even footing. He can grow up to be anything he wants apart from being a pig, or even blade after today

Just as i see it,the side is full of namby-pambys,they have no fighting spirit duck out of 50/50's.

50+ years and this could possibly be the worst side we have had after today even promotion through the play offs is a long way off and yes.I was one of the we only need 2 centre halves group :( I still believe adkins is the man to take us to the promised land but needs to overhaul the squad and I will get slated for this the prince needs to put his wallet where we need it Bournemouth did and look where they are

My dad and uncle will be turning in their graves (took me to my first game in 1961)

Is it the team or individual players or both . I just dont know . We had a shit preseason last season , and a pretty good one this season , but either way , are we any further forward . Adkins said the squad was a honest bunch of players . Lets see how honest they are to us , Adkins and themselves.

Losing 4-0 to any team , whatever league you are in , is not good , and puts back all your preperation work backwards. Have we time and money to overcome , or is it over reaction . Again i don't know.
