Collins Interview on FH

Collins has never come across to me as a twat of any great measure in his interviews, but everyone seems to hate him. Doyle was subjected to the same dislike, and so was JMac earlier this season. OK none of these three are world beaters but they put in a shift and do their best for the club (despite what some might say)

Am fackin orf to Amerrica me leek. There at leest I canneh get shoutid at by any nasty fans. Buh yeah ergh, I'd just leek te tharnk Shefeeld Yeneetid for the ergsellent oppartuniteh to pliy arbsoloot doorgsheight and geh payed fackin loods foh it leek. It was spoh orn pally I terll yeh.

Not a twat?

Collo-" we're not going to get in the play-off's, so I might as well fuck off and sort meself out.."

Erm...ok, how does that work?
Pretty much unheard of eh?

I read it as "I got a chance to play football in the USA, I go there with my family every year and they want to go. I decided to take it as I might not get another chance to play out there. My biggest regret is leaving the Blades while they are still in L1"

My biggest regret is that we signed him and he consigned us to 5+ years in League 1!

I want to do a video on a fans view on El Collo

William Henry Foulkes and me.

Are we alone in not blaming Collins for everything bad that has happened to us over the last few seasons?

I've never seen so much vitriol aimed at one player - people are even saying things like he stayed when he could have gone out on loan because it suited him, or he's dumped us now because it suits him.

Does that make him so different from any of us who are in employment?

I'm considering handing in my notice at work due to changes in shift patterns at work, because it suits me not to work there under those conditions.

Maybe the club have told him that he won't be offered a new contract and maybe the offer to go to the USA (which hasn't just materialised from nowhere) came at the perfect time for him and his young family - what is he supposed to do, tell them they have to wait another 2 months until the English season is over?

Everyone says he bollocks other players to cover up his own mistakes; how do we know what he says, do some posters here have secret recording devices strapped to his body? If you were passionate about the club you play for wouldn't you get a bit fired up - God knows we've needed our players to get fired up, how many times have we said it?

He apparently is the egotistical bad egg that had brought the dressing room down. Do those posters have secret cameras at Shirecliffe recording everything?

I've never seen so many rumours about one player become fact simply by continuous repetition.

I've been quiet during this anti-Collins barrage but now he has gone I'm saying something.

I know the man personally, and his family, and I know his passion for SUFC "there is no question that once a Blade always a Blade - this wonderful club has a way of getting under your skin."

That is so true but you all probably think it is just a sound-bite.

The number of times we fans have said that, at times, we've missed Collo at the back, well how quickly some of us forget.

In our arrogance we blame this one man, who whilst being no world-beater (yes I admit that), has never done anything less than his best, limited though his abilities may be.

I wish him well and I'm glad for his sake that he is away from his distractors.

Well said.

He was definitely not one of our better players, but never understood the pure hatred towards him from some of our fans.

His interview and statement seemed pretty nice and genuine, yet all he gets is abuse.

Good luck to him.

Again, well said BoS!
The nastiness and vitriol of some individuals on here sickens me at times.
I've always thought Collins did a steady job for us, his worst time was under Adams when he first arrived, but beyond that he's been a stoic performer. Some of the personal issues he's suffered in his time at SUFC (and I don't mean the Clough issue) were very sad but Neill got on with life in public very nobly.

This so personal hatred against players is one of the reasons I use this site so much less these days.

Agree entirely. Good luck to the lad and his family.

In an interview Collins said "people can question my ability but not my professionalism, work rate or love of this club" or words to the effect.
As stated no Franz beckenbaur but a real honest footballer, with a genuine affinity for SUFC.
I wish him every luck in Tampa and thank him for his service to my club.

Yeah...maybe...I'm guessing Collins/his agent has been working on this awhile..

How do you think the conversation went?

"Nigel, it looks like we won't get in the play-off's and you won't be giving me a new contract, so do you mind if I fuck off now as it's not the same as when we had good players a few years back and I've been offered a new contract in Florida"

" ..erm, yeah..ok, I'll have to get someone in first though"

BOS. Yes I also wish him well and for our sakes he is away from BDTBL . Unfortunately Collins IMO was not good enough in the championship and has not been good enough in league 1 .

Our demise have been down to poor management and poor players . Time to move on , and fuck the sentiment from fans and players. . Collins and other non description players alike . Words mean nothing , it's action on the pitch we want , and has been missing .

We need to be professional and ruthless . 5 seasons in this league is 5 seasons too many in my book.

Heroes and Villians at the Lane . I just want them to do what they get paid for , doing it well within pride and passion.

Collins deserves the shit he has had , like many others. If Collins and some others have never done less than there best , well sorry , there best has just not been good enough. We want , need , require winners.

Personally I'd sooner have players that don't give a fuck about the Blades as long as they have footballing ability.

Oh and it's no wonder he thought a lot of the club we paid him thousands of pounds a week to do a very poor job.

We replaced Jags and Monty with Doyle and Collins.

Thank fuck they have both finally gone.

Third division players at their best, one is now in the 4th and the other has gone to play granddad football in the States.

Says it all.
