Was there a time when you (almost) gave up

Nearest I came was a few weeks ago when season ticket renewals were announced.

only 10/23 home games on a Saturday is ridiculous.

Getting home by train after night games is a tortuous process and at nearly 70yrs of age I thought for the first time, "is it really worth it?"

Anyhow, I'v renewed my season ticket and we'll see what this time next year brings at almost 71 🤣
Same here mate, we've renewed again, and go all over the country watching them, I'm 71, and the sky's k.o.times are starting to wear a bit thin now! Especially the night matches 8 o'clock k.o. even worse when we play away.😒

I’m beginning to start to think that time is now.

Apart from seeing friends on a matchday and spending the valuable time with my son, I’ve realised I’ve not really enjoyed as much as I used to over the last 2 seasons.

It’s not been a sudden thing but something that has been gradually creeping up on me. I’ve realised I’ve not seriously watched a game of football other than the one involving United for weeks. I was down at the Plymouth match and I was bored by it all and couldn’t wait for it to end. I’m finding the football boring and sterile with the current vogue of knocking it around the back. I’m beginning to feel like I’m going to the games through a sense of duty and not that fussed if I miss an away game. Weeks ago before our fate was known I’d given my ticket up for Burnley. I’ve noticed I look forward to the end of the season a lot more than I used to.

Years ago all I ever looked forward to was going to the match but I’ve grown a bit meh about going to the match. I’ve been playing a lot of golf lately. I’ve found I really look forward to that a lot more. I’m outside doing something that I enjoy doing and at a club where I’m welcomed, where my custom is appreciated and in an environment where everything is geared to my enjoyment rather than everything being a massive hassle.

There are so many other things I look forward to rather than the football. I’d much rather go to a gig, go for a game of snooker with my lad or a mate, go out and have a run, go the the gym or even a couple of pints. I enjoy all that much more than I enjoy the football.

Part of me is even hoping we get knocked out of the play offs in the semis to save me the hassle of the play off final and I can go and do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks with a couple of mates instead of the long and expensive trip to the citadel of corporate greed that is Wembley.

I’ve renewed for next season but I’m tempted to call it a day after that and I’ve never felt like that before
