Personally I'd sooner have players that don't give a fuck about the Blades as long as they have footballing ability.

Not me. Giving a fuck for the club is top of my list of player attributes.

What I thought would get picked up on was his view that there had been a change from Fortress Bramall Lane and how this was down to a lack of passion in either the players or the playing style or both.

The constructive criticism of Collins always focused on his need to play deep which stopped us playing a high line and pressing.

This desire for a high line was noticeable in an Adkins interview this week.

Another player who cares about the club, all the best to him.

I don't really like him, and I think he is pretty awful - But why does a player that is trying their best, but just arent good enough get so much vitriol? They didn't offer themselves a contract. Players should get vitriol for not trying, not for being rubbish. One of those the players can change, the other they have no say.

Are we alone in not blaming Collins for everything bad that has happened to us over the last few seasons?

I've never seen so much vitriol aimed at one player - people are even saying things like he stayed when he could have gone out on loan because it suited him, or he's dumped us now because it suits him.

Does that make him so different from any of us who are in employment?

I'm considering handing in my notice at work due to changes in shift patterns at work, because it suits me not to work there under those conditions.

Maybe the club have told him that he won't be offered a new contract and maybe the offer to go to the USA (which hasn't just materialised from nowhere) came at the perfect time for him and his young family - what is he supposed to do, tell them they have to wait another 2 months until the English season is over?

Everyone says he bollocks other players to cover up his own mistakes; how do we know what he says, do some posters here have secret recording devices strapped to his body? If you were passionate about the club you play for wouldn't you get a bit fired up - God knows we've needed our players to get fired up, how many times have we said it?

He apparently is the egotistical bad egg that had brought the dressing room down. Do those posters have secret cameras at Shirecliffe recording everything?

I've never seen so many rumours about one player become fact simply by continuous repetition.

I've been quiet during this anti-Collins barrage but now he has gone I'm saying something.

I know the man personally, and his family, and I know his passion for SUFC "there is no question that once a Blade always a Blade - this wonderful club has a way of getting under your skin."

That is so true but you all probably think it is just a sound-bite.

The number of times we fans have said that, at times, we've missed Collo at the back, well how quickly some of us forget.

In our arrogance we blame this one man, who whilst being no world-beater (yes I admit that), has never done anything less than his best, limited though his abilities may be.

I wish him well and I'm glad for his sake that he is away from his distractors.

I have no idea about what Collins did behind the scenes, but to say he was hopeless throughout for us just isn't true. He played very well in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and was decent the following year. He had a very good partnership with Maguire.

The last 2 years have been problematic and his powers are failing him but he had some good league one quality seasons for us, and a number of people in our squad can't say the same.

Whatever fans think about Collins as a player they will always concede surely that he has always spoken honestly, sensibly and articulately in interviews. With such attributes the fact he has never been our captain must tell it's own story but that's by the bye.

2. We have become neither an attacking force or a 'hard to beat' team, something in-between.
3. This current squad has more ability than it's producing.
4. We've lost our consistency since Wilson left.
5. Adkins has been in post for 8 months which is a long time in football.
6. "Glad it's not my decision whether he continues or not"

I take on board all those points which I reckon will be fair and objective opinions from a player who knows what's what and may have a slight beef with his treatment by Adkins of late but generally an appreciation that Adkins gave him another opportunity after Clough had frozen him out.

I too am happy I do not have to decide who manages the club from here. I don't believe Adkins will lose his job but I am worried, I must say.

I don't give a fat rat's arse about how 'nice' he is. I don't doubt Morgs like kittens and cooks a mean soufle, but what I liked about him was he was able to put his head where the ball was about to be volleyed and took charge of the penalty area, making it a fortress.

I'm glad he has finally cottoned on to that. The years he is talking about was when we had one Harry Maguire playing alongside him, making Collins look good.

No. Wrong-o. We have become a team where playing us is more likely to guarantee gain three points than lose them. It's really that binary.

So it is up to the squad 'seniors' to take charge of that and channel it into results. I disagree with him by the way. I don't think this squad is very 'able' at all, and he is an example.

4. We've lost our consistency since Wilson left.

Was this the 'consistency' based on one striker's ability to find the net? We weren't exactly playing convincing football under Wilson and slid from the top of the league at Christmas, to being over-run by our city rivals and dumped at Wembley on penalties. That isn't consistency. It's shit planning for eventualities. It's okay putting it down to bad luck. What if Evans han't been jailed and had broke his leg in Jan 2013? Its bad planning at all levels.

5. Adkins has been in post for 8 months which is a long time in football.

It is, if you are running out of carrots.

WHat has it got to do with him anyway? He has put in five years of unspectacular playing at the centre of our defence, being out positioned and outplayed by most if not all opponents and playing bloody hell with everyone around him, even though he isn't the team captain. It is the captain's job out there to organise, encourage, chide and strategise, based upon the manager's wishes. Collins covered his own six o'clock by blaming others. We all know people like that in our own workplace and it has a shit, destabilising effect on the output.

Why are you worried? Adkins will do what he is told and come the end of the season, meekly accept we will stay in Div One. Close season we will see some exits, fuck all input from the transfer market and he will take the 'give him ten games'/'give him until Christmas'/'wait until the JTW'/'we might scrape into the playoffs' brickbats until he either reisgns or leaves by mutal consent with another payoff and the next lettuce is installed at McCabe's bequest.
