Ah the perm....a thing.of beauty that little number on Magic Morris. Not only was he a superb winger he looked like a 1970s porn star with the perm and the tash. I expect that after training he would often go out in his plumbers van to go and sort out the internal pipes of many a Farah Fawcett lookalike lady in gleadless or Norton. Any Blades player who looks like he would out do John Holmes is a real Blade in my book.

My best right winger after Woodward
The best performance I've seen by a right winger for the Blades was Franz Carr against Southampton at the Lane. They couldn't handle him all game, I don't know how it finished 0-0. Pity he was so inconsistent.

As he replaced our legendary winger Alan Woodward, it was pretty convenient that he had the same number of syllables in his name.
"we've got Colin Colin Colin Colin Morris on the wing...on the wing....."

Happy Birthday (for yesterday) to a proper old fashioned winger.

As Deadbat mentioned, Colin is now living in the Algarve...or at least he was last year, because he helped a mate of mine with the purchase of a property over there.

Great player!

Anyone noticed that it takes two to make the team tango? Edwards/Morris, Deane/Agana, which 2 from our present squad then?

Clarke and.....?

The thing I remember about Morris was that he was like lightning over 5-10 yards.
Over 10 yards the opposition full back had a chance of catching him up.
It was his little legs that meant he was quick off the mark (running in a lower gear so to speak) and he was great at beating his man and putting in a good cross every time.

Also the Morris/ Edwards partnership was really special.
Edwards got the plaudits for scoring so many but Morris must have set up over half of Edwards goals.

When Colin left the club I was doing a paper round at the age of about 15. I remember reading the headline on the back of the Sheffield Shitrag that he was going. I was close to tears stood on the path of one of my customers reading their paper. They came out to see if I was alright :)
My favourite player at the time. Absolute Lane Legend

Is my memory playing tricks or did we play a couple of friendlies with Seville as they were interested in signing the 2 of them?

Yes, we had a friendly over there and won 3-1 and Edwards/Morris run riot. They were very interested in the pair. Colin said they spoke to Brealey but Reg wanted quite a lot of money and both lads were not sure about going and it never got more than a chat between the two clubs.

I remember seeing Colin play against us for Blackpool and thinking how great it would be if we signed him. Soon afterwards, I was chuffed to bits when we did.

Nowadays, we would be rumoured to be interested in him for six weeks, after which he would sign for Peterborough, Walsall or Gillingham stating how delighted he was to have joined one of the most ambitious clubs in the division.

Proper wingers seem to be a dying breed. As I watched Duffy and Done come inside and the various other crap we have had over the last few years what would I give for a proper winger who runs at this men and gets crosses in. Simply a little trick or jink to get a yard or simply just pushing and running. Not seen many SUFC wingers/players do that for the last few years. Campbel Ryce got a lot of stck but he was one of few who would at least try this.

I think of likes of Morris, Bryson and they were not fast (Morris good over a few yards) but both had own unique ways of quick feet to create a yard and get the ball over.

Speaking of wingers, he was not with us for a while but loved Alan Roberts, the Geordie right winger who was a real speedy player. Tore Newcastle apart.

Love this story about him from Steve Thompson last week....around 12 mins in!

The videos Walthamstow has posted under SUFC History on You tube shows how good Morris was at making half a yard to get a cross in.

Cracking story. One of those players Bassett could find to be one piece of a jigsaw. No competing with other clubs to sign him, because only Bassett could see the things others couldn't, as with so many of his signings.

As much as I have fond memories of Morris/Edwards etc; we had lost our way completely and Harry came in and after we went down did more than Wilder in changes (he had done a lot the year before). He brought in almost a new team and we won promotion scoring goals for fun. He then did it again the next year. To think Bassett is still criticised by some is remarkable.

I recall being on holiday for the first few weeks of 88/89 and then my first game was Chester and me and my Dad going and wondering what to make of them. Deane and Agana scored a hat trick a piece. Roberts wide right, Bryson wide left. Think it was Webster and Todd in midfield until Booker replaced injured Webster. Martin Pike at left back too! Chris Wilder also was right back I believe some of that season.

Those 2 or 3 season Deane and Agana were almost unplayable. Pace, power, link up. Work rate and desire. Not seen a partnership like them since and doubt we ever will.

Loved watching him play, one of my fav players, just because whenever he got the ball I thought something would happen, if he played now we'd never be sat down.

Great story. Need a bigger settee

Not wishing to sound like a grumpy old man, but players played in their best position and stay there. Now Morris would be put in the middle of the pitch and given a start as left back!

I actually used to appreciate Morris more than I did watching Keef putting the ball in the net

Used to love watching him play and always stick him in my all time 11

I went to the Newcastle cup game too, think it was 3-0.
They were in the division above us but we totally dominated and could have won by more. I agree that night Roberts was like Cristiano Ronaldo, he looked a real superstar and made Newcaslte look like amateurs.
I couldn't believe how good he was and was convinced he'd be Bassetts BEST signing of the lot.
Then he only seemed to play about 5 more matches and mysteriously disappeared never to be heard of again. I remember it being reported that Bassett regretfully released him due to his personal issues. Don't know what it was but he seems to leave under a cloud.

Another memory of Morris was when ever he got the ball you'd hear shouts of
"Skin him Mo" "goo on skin him Mo"

And then there was chant
"Colin........Colin Morris..Colin Morris on the wi...ing"
"Colin.........Colin Morris..Colin Morris on the wing"

Yeh Bryson was a worker, quite consistent, good crosser, great attitude and liable to score a goal too. Roberts was more talented and a bit of a wizard of the dribble, potentially much more class.

Talking about former players who played well against us.
I remember Mike Trusson at Plymouth having really impressive games against us 2 seasons running.
We were that impressed we ended up buying him but it's so typical whilst he played for us I never saw much ability. He was consistently non descript/ average.
