Closing the Kop

Just more proof that cheap tickets don’t mean big crowds. £15 quid tonight against a Premier League team and people can’t be arsed.

Really was an embarrassing attendance tonight.
It's not that I can't be arsed. I can't be arsed to sit somewhere I dislike. KOP or Westfield Upper for me.

I went and I enjoyed it. I think it would have been a better atmosphere with the Kop open but can also understand why it was closed based on our attendance record in the competition.

And people moan about Loyalty points, these are the games to build your points up not stay away.

More to do with what people feel about the League Cup competition. If it had been a fiver there would not have been many more.

The thing is you want to be sat with the mates who you sit with at every League game, now if you all have different amounts of loyalty point you could be waiting until the last day before general sale to get seats together. I'm sure regulars on the south stand would be well pissed if a load of oiks from the kop had their fat arses plonked in their usual seats.
Not sure the early rounds are done on loyalty points think they just go on general sale, stand to be corrected though.

Not to open the loyalty points debate again (no, really!) but speaking as someone gave last night a miss and is towards the lower end of the loyalty points brackets: if every cup game gave 100 points as last night did then I'd need to go to 40 cup games before I move up another bracket. I've got my season ticket and hope to get to as many aways as possible (was grateful for Hull not selling out before I could buy) but the loyalty points you get for attending one-off matches are essentially meaningless to me.

Every little helps though, as they say.

I think half the problem is there’s no consistency with how the loyalty points are allocated as well. In the early days of the system, last night might have been worth as much as 250 points. I actually think offering more loyalty points would be a bigger draw over cheaper tickets.

Hopefully the ballot helps distribute the tickets a bit more fairly for the more in demand games. Just for balance, I’m by no means top bracket so I might be glad of this new system as well at some point this season.

Fair point. As I’ve just replied to someone else, I think offering higher loyalty points is more likely to encourage people to come rather than cheaper tickets.

On the other side of the coin I wouldn't have got the amount of Loyalty points I've got if I hadn't attended 40+ cup games over the years.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Never understood footy fans obsession with "the kop". It's got the worst view of the game and is as far away from the opposing fans as you can get. You'd think the more "hardcore" fans would want A - a good view and B - be closer to the away fans so the obese Hull fan eating his 4th pie can hear you chant "you fat bastard" at him
Why would a Hull fan be there ?

What's the point when you know that essentially, you're watching two reserve teams playing.

15 quid for reserve team football??

Always pisses me off. This is the only trophy we ever have an outside chance of winning. Ever. Ever. And most seasons we arse about with a reserve team and go out, when we could have had a go with the 1st team and won the tie. Remember the semis against Liverpool and Spurs? A brace from Tonge and Adams in the home games made them football occasions to remember, rather than going out early in order to maybe secure a extra few points against Blackpool or Barnsley etc....

Hats off for me to Southampton took good numbers for that distance midweek in that cup. I agree the amount of games a season devalue the league Cup and to some what the FA Cup too although for me due to work and family commitments midweek are actually easier. I went last night with my better half and she enjoyed the game. I recon if the Kop was open the only thing you would have done was to speed up the exit process as we were at the back of the South Stand although it does usually take a while to get down the stairs.
