Usually, later in the game, it's followed up with "We know he can hit them from here" said about a nondescript player who hasn't scored a free kick since the balls had laces in them.

Not quite a cliche but this bollocking habit of commentators these saying "just about" , as in: "he just about saved that" "he just about intercepted that" " he just about got a shot in".... bugger me sideways with a shopping trolley, in all these cases they DID make a save or an interception or got a shot in... there was no just afuckingbout about any of `em.
