I'm happy with the signing. 33 isn't that old in the modern game, he's proven at this level and we needed a striker.

He's played for Wilder at Halfax, so he obviously knows him. Wilder said he was a really top bloke.

Hopefully the fitness and training regime at United will get him firing on all cylinders

People are crying about losing out on Sinclair (mostly because his agent appears to be a twat) but then moaning that Clayton won't be good enough - I know which player I would rather have.
Clue - it wasn't the one who was sat waiting at Sheffield station on Thursday evening.

Having had time to reflect and get over Thursday's disappointment, he's a decent signing. An improvement on Clarke, Ched, Hanson, Lavery, but just not the player we so badly needed.

If we're operating on almost no funds, he's a very good signing.

Yes well... before we start taking sides and calling Sinclair everything from a pig to a dog, how about we just ease off a bit in the knowledge that he'll probably be joining us in Jan?

Well that maybe the case - if you read my post again I didn't actually criticise Sinclair at all. I said his agent appears to be a twat and that I would rather have Donaldson - because he has championship experience and has a decent scoring record at this level.

Well, based on a tweet from him a mate has just shown me, I don't think he'll be joining us now. He's tweeted something along the lines of don't believe everything you read or watch because nothing was agreed.....so basically calling CW a liar. Good move son.

PS. I don't do twitter so can't share it but sure somebody on here could find it.

I think he'll be a good signing. Wilder won't sign anyone who doesn't fit in with his ethos!!!. He's already worked with him at Halifax and tried to sign him whilst he was managing Northampton!!. That says it all!!. I hope he starts at Sunderland?. See you there. Utb. In wilder we trust.

If he says nothing was agreed! Why would he be sat at Sheffield station?. He's obviously sticking up for his knobhead of an agent!!. Wilder won't go anywhere near him if he's tweeting that crap!!. He'll just move on to other targets!. I M O.

No worries, if he signs he'll be a great prospect again!
Trust me on that ;)

Think you have to be registered on linked in to see - what's the gist?
There was a comment from Head of Commercial or something at Fleetwood saying 'great insight - from a Blades perspective' re the video.

I get the impression some are accusing the club of putting out a one sided video that makes us look great and everyone else twats. Although whilst they're happy to say 'that's not the case' or imply it, they're reluctant to tell their side of the story.

From that deadline day article:

4:21 p.m.

The Donaldson deal is back on. "It's happening," Wilder says. "Looks like we're paying £50,000." Knill doesn't look up from his phone, opining: "That's a real good one, that. A real good one." Wilder nods. "But we need Devante done."

"A real good one"

That to me suggests he's one we're very happy to have.

And he doesn't fill the same role as Sinclair or Cole, he's a different player. But he still offers us more pace than we've got.

He was probably intended to be Hanson's replacement, but because we didn't sign any other strikers as expected, Hanson's had to stay.

Yes, one or two are having some difficulty grasping that CW intended to sign two strikers...

Anyone claiming this was a panic signing, just take a look at Bolton.

(No doubt i'll be hugely proven wrong in 3 months time)

What? To play for us under Atkins, Weir or Adams? Some good that would have done us.

Give the lad a chance, he hasn't played for us yet.

Wilson. I really hoped Wilson would sign him in the summer of 2011 when he’d just had a great season with Crewe in League 2 and let his contract run out. He went to Brentford instead but had he signed for us that summer, I think we’d have coped better with the loss of Ched and maybe would have got over the finish line with our noses in front of the pigs. 27 years old, pace, power etc. I just hope there’s enough of that player remaining to suit our needs this season.

Aye, you got that one wrong Loughborough ☺
I'm confident I haven't got this wrong. (No doubt you'll remind me if he fails!)

Hope you’re right mate.

Wilder has gone out and signed players that some fans have wanted for years prior to his reign (Duffy, Clarke, Fleck, Hanson, Donaldson, Stevens). At some point or another, there have been blades fans on forums calling for us to sign these guys at various points over the last 6/7 years. Some have come later than we would have liked (Clarke & Duffy wrong side of 30 but seem to have a bit left in the tank- especially Duffy). Let’s hope Donaldson has something left to offer us.

I really don't see any downside to this purchase.
One year deal, therefore its in CD's court to show us he's still capable and earn another contract.
Proven Championship record at 1:3 goal per game (approx)
Worked with Tufty previously and rated by CW
We are short in the position.
Apparently an asset to the dressing room re experience/confidence/role model
Think Billy Whitehurst, Neill Shipperley, Rob Hulse

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad signing. I just don’t think it’s enough to give us the options we’d like til January with Evans and Lavery being unavailable. If we’d got one of Cole or Sinclair in addition to Donaldson,

I think that he is most similar to Clarke out of all the strikers mentioned. When he was younger, possibly more like Cole but as he ages, he’ll rely on his physical presence to hold the ball up a bit more and won’t have as much pace in behind. I think he improves our squad a little and provides competition for Clarke but I’m still concerned we don’t have the pace we need up there. But maybe that will provide the opportunity for Brooks to step up.
