Not too blown away by this but better than Ben Davies....

Right footed so will presumably be competition/cover for Bash with Anel being LCB covered by Jacky Long throw....? Both Anel & Clarke can play centre back as well should Egan get a knock....

Good solid centre back, particularly at this level.

He's not particularly highly rated by the Geordies, but it's a big step down from the PL playing at this level. He's got a lot of experience and I could only see him as a good addition provided his attitude is right.

Signing all these defenders I can only assume the plan is to keep a lot of clean sheets so that when we have to start Mcburnie we can win 0-0

"In terms of positions they are looking at, Heckingbottom wants three more players, defence, midfield and forward. Ciaran Clark, at Newcastle, is a player they want for that defensive position."

Yes I did because the search I did says he is Right footed... https://www.footballcritic.com/ciaran-clark/profile/3619

One of us is right.... 😂
Haha unfortunately I'm much more obliged to believe Newcastle's official website, the club he currently plays for and has done for a good few years now, over footballcritic.com ;) I watch quite a lot of football too, seen him plenty of times over the years., definitely left footed pal.

I only did the search myself to provide evidence rather than just saying 'I know he's left footed'.
Your site is the only one I can find that says he's right footed.
Just search for 'Ciaran Clark left footed'. Plenty of other resources.
Weirdly enough, if you search for 'Ciaran Clark right footed' all the sites at the top come up saying he's left footed too.

Think he would be a solid signing but it does seem a strange one, especially if it is a buy. Granted, he won’t feature for them next season, but he will inevitably have to take a pay cut to come here permanently. And is he guaranteed to play?
I can see it being a loan with a small fee and contribution to his wages. Like we did with Hourihane.

Lol.....lesson learned, don't trust the first website that you see!

Well if he is left footed then my comment about Davies stands anyway! Him/Jacky fight it out for LCB and Bash/Anel RCB....with both able to cover Egan as well.

Easy mistake to make mate. I only knew myself because of the amount of times I've seen him play, otherwise I'd have took what you said as gospel.

Personally I think he'd come in as first choice LCB. Anel will be first choice RCB with Egan in the middle.
Having Bash and JLT to fall back on, leaves us a hell of a lot better off than we were at the back last season.
The championship seasons are long and tough, last year was disrupted with covid, this year it'll be disrupted a little with the world cup, so games will come thick and fast.
We're going to get injuries/suspensions. We need our backups to come in and not drastically weaken the starting line-up.

Also it pushes the players in the first choice 11 to keep their levels up. If they have a bad run of games, they need to know that they're not guaranteed starters.
With the signings we've made and the 3 more potential incomings, I think we'll be a hell of a lot better off than we were last year (although who wouldn't want MGW back).

For a backup left sided player for cheap he seems a good option

Sat with a wolves fan in kardamena and he says they are expecting good things from MGW after his performances for us

Or Egan is off…
