Player coach role at the end of next season?

For what reason? Because he's a popular player? Because he's a captain? Because he's a Blade?

It worked really well with Old Muckanettles Upanatem Nowt-Fancy, so give it another go, eh?

Coaching is a vital function at a football club. Such jobs should not be filled on the basis of long service, popularity or Bladeyness. That's the sort of unprofessional nonsense we should be leaving behind.

With all these weaknesses in our squad, and heading towards 100 points having played the best quality football ever seen at this level, it is obvious that CW is not simply a damn good manager but must have super-natural powers too!

A statement which flies in the face of your 180 degree hypocritical veneration for "Tufty".

Perhaps you should give up this whole trying-to-look-intelligent schtick. You evidently aren't suited to it.

WOW, we win 3-0 at an absolute canter and we still have people that have to come on a message board and slag off individual players.

Some people are never happy unless they have something completely insignificant to moan about.

Well it started out as a thread about being happy for one of our players who scored for a team that we -most of us - support.

But as ever it gets soured by arseholes with vendettas, very repetitive ones.

When Done arrived he was known as "Panic Buy". After a few weeks he showed us he was probably the best we had bought in a while. I like him as an attacker and was a big cog in the system that took us to the top of the league. His goals per game ratio was poor this season but so is Hansons, and I dont see many slating him. If he isnt here next season then Thankyou Matty, and good luck for the future.

Glad he got a goal - as when he has played since Christmas, it's been at LWB, and that's just not his position and makes him look a worse player than he actually is. I can't see him being here next season - so I'm pleased he hit the back of the net - at least one more time before the end of the season.

I think Matty Done is exactly the type of player we should be keeping for nest season. He's versatile, doesn't mind being a squad player and works his bollox off (we will need a few of these types of players next season if only to come off the bench). He's not the best player in the world, but he gives 100% every time he puts the shirt on. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Wilder gives him a new contract.

I think you'll find he already has. By playing him so many games it's triggered the 1 year extension clause in his contract, which I understand is a reciprocal agreement.

Done was better defensively yesterday than at Oldham, and seemed to have learned from his mistake of letting a winger get behind him onto the end of a pass inside as evidenced a couple of times in the first half.

Going forward, he got into two great positions, one in the first half and one in the second where he was wasteful, but the third time scored a lovely placed finish. He isn't a bad player but looked visibly low on confidence yesterday which hopefully the goal will help him with. I think there's already too many in front of him in the pecking order to play up front, and I expect us to add more wing back cover next season so would move him on personally, with thanks for his part in the 20 game unbeaten run earlier this season.

Coutts dwelt on the ball in the last 5 minutes yesterday and lost it, then 5 seconds later got it back again, played a quick one two with Freeman and drove us down the pitch culminating in Done's goal. He's a class act at times and yesterday was one of his best performances this season in my opinion. He'll never be tough in the tackle which does frustrate me at times when we're on the back foot, but he more than makes up for that in his ability to get us playing alongside Fleck.

Sharp has had a fantastic season but has undoubtedly been off his game the last few weeks. That said if the lino in the Coventry game could see or Leon had squared it to him for an open goal tap in yesterday in the second half (no criticism of Leon, he's been terrific since coming back from injury), there'd be no talk of a goal drought or being finished. For what it's worth i'd start next season with a new striker alongside Lavery, but Sharp will deservedly get his chance and I hope he's as prolific as he has been the last 2 seasons.

He certainly is. Mediocre in more than one position. Exactly the sort of poor player we should be leaving behind.

However, I'm pleased he got his goal, give him credit for his work ethic (albeit misapplied) and wish him well next season at a standard appropriate to his ability.

They are appearance related player options according to Radio Sheffield's Rob Staton (i.e. Not activated by the club). As all of the contracts this applies to were pre-Wilder, this is presumably the same sort of arrangement we couldn't back out of when Hammond took up his option.

I am noticing all the people who used to moan when we lost have just changed tac a little

now we can abuse players who havent scored 20 plus
and the team are poor for only beating Valke 3-0 m away
yes we won at a canter but they were shit is the new moan

said all along we will one day beat Chelsea 7 -1 at their ground and some of ours will focus on the goal we concede

thats the real blades way for some

moan like fuck about evertything
You moan just as much as anyone .......about people moaning.

And you can bet that the biggest admirer of Paul Coutts is John Fleck. They can't wait to get the ball to each other, because they know it won't be wasted.

Some of our less sophisticated fans prefer talentless ragamuffins who endlessly and tirelessly chase the shadows of better players. That's their prerogative but it's not for me, thanks.

Perhaps Coutts doesn't get the recognition he fully deserves , because he makes hard thing look so easy .

It's the hallmark of a quality player. The greats (I don't claim Couttsy is a great but it's all relative) make it look very simple indeed. Franz Beckenbauer was the best player on the pitch in a World Cup match, playing with his arm in a sling. Paul McGrath is an example closer to home; Cowans as well.

Michael Brown showed his lack of experience as a manager in not attacking our left flank yesterday ,lack of homework or the lack of ability or personnel to change and go for our Achilles heel. I like matty Done and was really chuffed he scored ,he has played a huge part early season in our promotion and deserves a contract extension but he is Billys best foil rather than a left back.

You missed those defence splitting passes then ,and the cross field all to Freeman for the last goal ? Fleck and Coutts are a partnership ,one game Fleck will be the outstanding player another time it will be Coutts and the 'insult to Fleck' you mention is from yourself as Fleck ,although seeming to have a quiet game paved the way for Coutts to perform. Just try watching them how they work together ,but regarding yesterday how anyone cannot enjoy watching Coutts ability as a footballer while playing for our team is totally beyond me.
As said in previous threads on this subject. I'm happy for Coutts to continue to improve. His defending has got better again after his recent blip although first half yesterday he did get caught in a similar situation to the ones both me and Bergen Blade have pointed out recently and a better player than his opponent yesterday would have punished his lack of concentration. The less well educated and sophisticated do not see the changing picture of the game situations like you and I and no matter what will always look to defend their point on a player refusing to see the number of their so called Hoofs by the player they are looking at through Blade coloured specs. Like the three or four in the first half. These are the one that frustrate me with a player like Coutts who many claim can turn out of a situation to create the space for himself. Well yes he can so why did he 'Hoof' when he had no need to and in at least two of those situations yesterday, having loads of time? His decision making needs a lot of work. He should watch Basham over the last few games for examples of this because the versatility of him at the moment is beautiful The simplicity he applies at the right point is a joy followed by a skill trick technique carried out to perfection. Check out 49.5 mins in to the second half against Northampton ( just before the end) and see this bloke who gets very little credit for his contribution and example to others. He does this type of thing many times at the right time. When Coutts gets as consistent as Basham he will be a real class player.

EDIT: I suggest we leave this for now and celebrate our great team and club.

Leave it at that drivel? Not while I'm around...let's leave it when sanity has been restored.

Paul Coutts is a hugely consistent player. Together with John Fleck he forms a Rolls Royce of a central midfield at this level. They pass the opposition to death.

Less sophisticated fans such as yourself prefer scrappy, scruffy ragamuffins who have no talent but tirelessly chase the shadows of superior players, occasionally temporarily depriving said better player of the ball but then giving it back immediately.

Me, I admire quality.

Sanity cannot be restored to you self unfortunately.
You have a delusional complex that leads you to believe you see a better game than the rest of us.
Your hero yesterday (and an integral part of a very successful team), to use a term that you love, hoofed it several times in the first half when he had the chance to take the time he does on other occasions and pass the ball. Don't worry though, if CW and AK continue and more to the point, feel they have a decent Championship footballer to work with then they will get the consistency required out of him.
Meanwhile the Doctors have been informed and they promiss us they will try to get you well again.
In the meantime you ought to like the rest of us enjoy our glorious football team and the way they took this league apart playing the football I and many more wanted to see.
