But you can hope as much as you like, if you know the money isn’t there then you can’t be disappointed if it doesn’t materialise. Like I said before, it appears Wilder spent more in January than a lot of the teams in our division, regardless of how small his budget was.
he didn’t know it wasn’t there and expected more.

Which owner was it that expected there to be a bigger budget by the way? Either one of them could’ve put more money in if they really wanted to.

McCabe. And I’m astounded by the looseness in which their deal was struck. None the less. It’s quite clear that McCabe expected more investment from the prince.

The thing is when they are playing well, even if they lose, CW gives them all the plaudits because they deserve it. When they play poorly, he gives them both barrels, because they deserve it!

Wilder didn’t know that we’ve got no money when all the fans know it? I can’t believe that.

As I say, if McCabe wanted the budget to be bigger then he could easily have put more money in himself. This is the same McCabe who many of our fans (I’m not one of them) have hammered in the past for not spending enough when he was solely in charge.

In response to the op, Wilder's reaction at Hull worked a treat, witness the performance and result we got in the next game, at Reading. Wilder doesn't buy shrinking violets, so the odd rollicking isn't going to upset them it's going to go the other way and get a decent performance out of them.

When Bassett was at the Lane, he'd give a rocket in the players direction now and again, ditto the board, fans and himself, which is what CW tends do. I'd call it good management.

I wish I could like this a 1000 times! This is the best manager we have had in a generation, the football we play and how we have a go. How anyone can even question him is beyond me, what’s wrong with the modern day football fan? You do remember the last 6 years don’t you keef? You do remember the complete lack of entertainment and players just strolling around.

He took a bunch of players who we all wanted shut of and made them play, we are still in with a sniff of the top 6 and some supporters are unhappy because he has had a go at the players! Awww didums as far as I am concerned he can say what he wants about the players I trust his judgement and every fan of this club should also trust his judgement. Some fans are never happy and that’s the problem unless we are smashing the league by 20 points people will always moan! Grow up and understand how far we have come I am sure Chris will have us going again if we fail to reach the playoffs.

Gerin.

Well, you and "the fans" that you refer to were wrong, There was £2,000,000 available. And just like you didn't know that, you therefore couldn't have known that is wasn't going to be "£4,000,000", or "£6,000,000". Just like Wilder didn't.

McCabe could have put more in. But the expectation from the deal that was done is that the investment would come from the prince.

I take it that the events since the end of January have escaped you, or that you're acting deliberately dumb to defend you initial post.

I'm not sure what there is to defend. My initial post was that we signed the players Wilder wanted. That seems obvious as he was chasing two of them for ages.

The events since January haven't escaped me but so far I've seen no confirmation on exactly what is going off, only rumours and suggestions on here. If you can enlighten me then please do.

So you personally know that there was only £2m available? And your argument is that Wilder didn't know this? I might not have known exactly what the budget was but logic told me that it wasn't going to be £6m, that;s for certain. Whatever the budget was we still spent more than most in the division.

Sigh. What a waste of time this is.

It really is as you don't seem to be getting my point at all, you saw my initial post, jumped in two footed and took it off on a completely different angle

I agree that 95% of what Wilder says is spot on.
I can't believe that nobody else thinks he's bang out of order for slagging the players or bigging himself up above the players to pricks from the media. Slag them off in private if you have to but not on the radio. That's not what the head of the team does, it's snidey and it will upset some players.
tough.

“Wilder must be happy because he signed the players he wanted”

Is that a statement that must be cast is stone, or could it be, however much you can’t grasp it, that he’s only happy with the players he got because that was the best he could do with the limited budget on offer?

I jumped in “two footed” because your post didn’t hold even a cupful of water.

It’s really obvious stuff, and pointless repeating it.

It’s all been done to death now, so I’ll leave it with you.

Two of the players were being chased for several months. Therefore he must really have wanted them. The logic is there regardless of whether you want to see it.

Wilder wanted a bigger budget. So would every other manager. Every club has to work to a budget and based on our budget we got the players Wilder wanted. We also brought in more players in January than most in our division.

We’ve agreed that the budget should be bigger but it isn’t and Wilder will have known this.
