I think finishing 9th was part of the problem.
We didn't make the signings a team in 9th could have attracted if we had a more ambitious scouring network. Have got Berge, I recall being linked with a midfielder at Hoffenheim and the African lad from Olympiacos. We ought to have been in for one of these too, striking while the iron was hot.
If they want going to happen, then we have been better finishing 16th.
At least then the urgency to improve the immediate XI would have been apparent.
I get the guy has occasional injuries, but maybe something less sexy like getting Deeney on loan for a year from Watford with a view to keeping him in the Prem and Watford taking him back in a year when ideally for them they'd be promoted back. At least he would have been an experienced and obvious starter. Not the flight of fancy Brewster is.
Etheridge did well at Cardiff in the Prem, went for 2m to Brum. You probably could have got those two deals done for 10m including wages for the year.
It would have left an additional 30m in the kitty to spend further on wages and a midfielder who could further improve the team.
If you were genuinely keeping Stevens and Osborn, I don't see the urgency to get Lowe. Particularly when he isn't getting a run right now despite Enda being poor. In the modern world we live in, maybe he and Bogle are a couple and you don't get one without the other?!
