Totally agree, tthere is no evidence that we will be in any position to get anywhere near even the play offs, next season. We all know the budget will be reduced. Adkins signings on the whole have been poor, even while he's been able to sign players on expensive wages, yet he is now expected to sign players to take us up, while shopping in the baragin basement. What, in the relegation battle?
Why people automatically assume we will be challenging for promotion next season puzzles me, for the last two seasons now we will have finished over 20 points from top spot and I have seen and heard nothing on or off the pitch to make me think next year will be any different.
If this is what we get on the current budget, then we truly are knackered if it's going to be reduced.Totally agree, tthere is no evidence that we will be in any position to get anywhere near even the play offs, next season. The new players are going to need time to get to know each and for Adkins to sort out his best eleven. The squad will feature poor players like McEverley, (destined for a new contract), from what Adkins says about him today) Hammond (poor this season and is only going to get slower, if thats possible) and several young players (pathway for the youth, but many who are not yet ready to play regularly). Added to this will be an assortment of low budget Adkins signings. To be fair to Adkins he clearly realises how tough it will be and thats why he's already making us aware, by stating its now a three year project to get to the next level. Its an absolute nighmare situation. Keep Adkins and ten games into the season people will be calling for his head, if we are not around the play offs. The knifes are already been sharpened for Adkins, so he's really in an difficult position. There is no way he will get a third year to complete the project, if we dont get up next season. If we get rid of him now, the new manager will be in the same position, with some fans calling for his head, if we are not challenging mid way through the season. Some will be saying we should have kept Adkins and others will be blaming Clough. What a position we are in.
They'll still be back in the championship before us
