I've watched a lot of Everton and Koeman used him as a striker too. It keeps baffling me. He played wide last season and was alternated with Lookman and others.

I’ve (unfortunately) seen them a lot under Koeman he he was using him on the wing, RWB even, don’t know about Unsworth but I have seen big Sam use him upfront.

It’s hard to say whether or not he’s keeping him out I suppose but surely Lookman should be a better alternative than DCL on the wing?

I think Lookman has more pace than Brooks from what I’ve seen but I fancy Brooks as a better footballer in general.

Well it’s not facts really. DCL has been used upfront a lot no doubt but go over the games of theirs this season and you’ll see DCL lined up on the wing and even at right wing back against Man City and Stoke.

CW will be playing his cards very close to his chest you can count on that! Plus, if we do sell Brooks others will know we have got a windfall and the price of your average League 1 player increases that bit more!

Selling Brooks in January would be pointless. Even if CW was to get some of that money to reinvest - it would be likely too late to use it in January. I agree with the poster who said his value will only increase as he improves as a player - and he will over the next 6-12 months.

Add in the fact that our wider squad is weak for this division - getting rid of one of few players who can produce something out of nothing - we be utter stupid.

I, like many don’t trust our board. But they may show some ambition and hold onto him. Only time will tell.

The other transfer plans look totally unambitious. I don’t think the board see this season as CW (one to challenge for promotion).

He will be a big player for this club in the future, the clamber that some of our fans have to sell off young talent at the first bid is bizarre to me.

It’s not a want to sell our young talent. But you need to make decisions based on current circumstances... and they are we’re missing a couple of real quality players that we’ll need to sustain our play off position... and there is no way we can afford those players at the moment.

He’s isn’t first name on the team sheet and his stock is high and bearing in mind our only other really saleable assets are Fleck or O’Connell - I know what I’d rather happen.

IF and I mean IF it resulted in us coming out of the window (potentially a lot) stronger... for me we should consider selling.

So for the club I think it’s lose lose. We sell there will be uproar we don’t, there will be uproar as we probably won’t spend and potentially slip out of the play-offs.

The principal of keeping him because he will be a big player for us relies upon us being being patient... and no one is patient in football.

Isn’t this the key point tho? Our squad needs strengthening and he’s not YET regularly producing something out of nothing. Going into the 2nd half of the season relying on him to do so would be the bigger mistake.

But all of this comes back to why can’t we strengthen without selling. If we could/did The entire situation changes.

It all depends on what we're content with. Where we see ourselves in the game.

We've seen countless examples of failure when it comes to flashing the cash recently. Our neighbours and Birmingham being the two that instantly spring to mind.

Those failures are down to giving money to the wrong people, and not having a proper structure in the way it was being spent. The way Birmingham were spending in the summer under Redknapp was hilarious and always destined to fail.

We have a manager who has worked miracles with what he's had. He has a clear way of playing, and gets the best out of his players.

If the backing was there, there's no doubt in my mind that Wilder could assemble a squad of players to hammer this league.

But, it's not. We all know that things coming together like this are extremely rare. An extra push from those in charge would get us to the next level.

The only conclusions we can draw are that:

Our owners are content with where we are as a club, and have little desire to see us promoted.

They simply don't have the financial muscle to do it.

Or both.

So, are we happy with competing as a Championship club, and hoping that Wilder can pull off a miracle. Or are we fuming that the backing is all but non existent?

I know as fans we all naturally want more. But with how we're set up from top to bottom, this is our level right now.

You see this I don’t understand...we missed out on permanently signing Leonard and Cole in the summer and the loan lad from Watford, who won’t have been cheap, so you’d assume there’s money from that...the £7 million Maguire/Kyle money is a big bonus this year and I believe TV money is around £7 million this year also, up from under £1 million last year.

I’m all for being prudent but we need to be realistic about where we are also.

Lookman can’t get in the Everton side for DCL. The same DCL who couldn’t get a game for us.

Brooks goal against Millwall was an absolute touch of class, his feet are dazzling and he is a little genius. Has it all. Would be a travesty to let him go on the cheap.

- If we’ve got a war chest (realistically for us) 6/7mill we shouldn’t consider anything less than 18/20mill.

- If we’ve only got 2/3mill we’ve got to entertain offers.
