Not much hatred for him considering he is an ex pig ex dingle who scored winning goals against us

I'm only aware of one winning goal against us, it was for the pigs, in the same season he scored against us in the 2-2 draw.

Welcome Cog,as long as your return is better than Paynters then you'll be fine.
Good addition Imo.

I'm sorry, I don't possess an extensive list of all available footballers. Oddly, it's not my job to sign players either. I doubt Chris O'Grady was the best available though.

Off the top of my head, theres a Welsh lad on a free at the moment who would have cost a fair bit less, I reckon. Better goals per games ratio as well, and still young enough to improve.

Where is the big name statement of intent Doyle said we were going for anyway? The one that will make the rest of the division sit up and take notice.

You seem to think we are going to sign a Championship / Premiership striker that scores lots of goals
Guess what theres not many of them available at the moment and certainly not many that would drop into L1
The Welsh lad is toxic at the moment and is not fit and wont be until well after Christmas
Is Doyle in charge of player recruitment all of a sudden

Yeah that's right for some reason I thought they beat us twice that year

Yes, but the choice wasn't "Porter or O'Grady". We already had Porter. The choice was O'Grady or any other striker who might be available.

I'm seeing people on Twitter saying that signing this non-scoring striker is somehow promotion in the bag. These comments leave me dumbfounded. O'Grady is average and people's excitement over him really is confusing. I can only think that it must be because we've been promised a striker for so long and we've finally got one.

O'Grady certainly isn't a statement of intent. Not the sort of statement I wanted us to make, anyway.

And before anybody makes another hilarious comment about Aguero or similar not being available, don't bother. The striker quality scale doesn't go "O'Halloran - Porter - O'Grady - Aguero". If you don't think there is a level of ability in between O'Grady and Aguero, you really don't understand football.

I think you bring these comments upon yourself Latters. Without knowing the complexities that exist behind the scene not a single one of us can do anything other than offer conjecture. We're in a poxy division, and it's because we're where we are that prevents superior talent from wanting to come here. Go up a division and that all changes. By all means find reasons to complain, but if you aren't offering any positive reasons as to how we move forward it seems that you are stuck in a groove of constant negatives. The very fact we're in this division brings with it a set of problems that cannot be ignored. By all means repeat the same mantra about game changing this or that, but you either believe Clough to be a patsy to the hierarchy of SUFC or you invest a little trust in him to be his own man and that he's relatively happy with how things are.

As a Blade I will get behind the lad and support him, I hope we don't get people booing him, like some did when Cresswell first ran onto the pitch for us. If Nigel has money to spend in January then maybe COG is a stop gap until then, or until Higdon is fully fit and makes the impact that we all wished for. Higdon and COG up front (if Nige ever played 4-4-2) would be more than big enough to boss any team's back four in this league. COG holding up play and laying a ball off to McNulty is also plausible.

Slate a player before he plays, it's the bladesway

Where did Latters slate him? Thought he gave a reasonable account of an average 3rd division striker tbh.

You're happy, some of us would have liked a bit more, no need for your snippy little comment really.

Funny, I didn't actually quote anyone or aim my comment in a particular direction but the fact you thought it was towards a particular poster says more about you than me.

He bullied Harry Maguire at hillsborough. Never seen Maguire bullied before or since. I've seen him outpaced numerous times but not bullied

Yep, it's Mary

No mate, your posts say everything about you so no worries on that front

He's played plenty of times, just not for us. It's what he has done in this time that is the basis of my disappointment.

COG is a fantastic signing and a great statement of intent to both fans and the rest of the league . Both Peterborough and Bristol City have signed loan strikers . However COG is the most versatile out of the lot . The way we are playing , he will knock in the goals . He is experienced enough in the football league to hit the ground running .

The disappointment , is that COG is carrying a injury .No idea what it is . ( typical , but should be available for MK game )

The signing is a psychological boost , and the missing link in the jig saw.

What is the basis of this nonsense? Is it that we've signed him from Championship Brighton? Could it be his 15 Championship goals for struggling Barnsley as recently as last season? Or is it 3rd rate attention-seeking?

Given our farcical game changing investment, that's a great signing

Why farcical?

In the January before the Prince we had to sell Blackman in order to bring in Barry Robson and Jonathan Forte. It was a one out before any in basis. In the following summer and throughout last season we hired and fired David weir. Brought in baxter scougall Brayford coady harris etc. All for fees or high wages. Not to mention hiring Clough and his backroom staff who definitely weren't cheap.

This season we've brought in Alcock JCR Wallace Higdon McNulty Davies Butler McCarthy Basham Mceveley.

If you can't see that the Prince has changed us you may as well believe in father christmas.

Ah good, just what the debate was lacking: arrogance.

I for one have been advocating O'Grady from the outset, Not for the silly reason you advance but because of over 50 years of failing to understand the game.

we will soon find out ! ;)

FWIW - I think O'Grady is a good acquisition.

As long as Clough adjusts the team accordingly and we continue to play decent, passing, attacking football and get the ball to the front two (I am assuming he will pair COG with Baxter or McNutts and have Higgy as a bench option) then I see him banging in some goals for us.

That said, he could however turn out like the rest of the misfiring doppers we have signed in the past few years.

But I am optimistic he won't be like that. Be nice to see a debut goal, and unlike Higdon, a continuance of goalscoring form.

Just as an aside... An 'average' striker in the history of SUFC would do very nicely for our current needs. I'm in.

With the signing of COG and the return to fitness of McNuts and Higdon, surly there is no excuse to play Baxter as the top an anymore?

I'm very happy with the signing, but it does present a lot of questions - I've at this point no idea what XI and formation NC will go with.

It's safe to assume that COG will be playing at every opportunity. If Doyle/Wallace and Scougs make up two of the others in the middle (based on NC to date, that would appear his preference), and NC sticks with the same formation, who misses out from Baxter/Reed/Basham?

If as some have said it means two up top out of COG alongside Higgo/McNuts, the fight for two in the middle of midfield is even tougher.

Interesting times.

Scougall has to make way for me. Personally I'd be going with:

Howard
Alcock PM JM Harris
Doyle Basham
Flynn Baxter Murphy
COG

It ticks all the boxes and has everyone in their BEST position. Wallace in for Basham when fit, JCR and Scougall as impact subs looks a frightening proposition.
