Chris Morgan

when we went up to the prem. i first though 'poor old morgs has had it he won't be able to cope'.. turns out he was one of our best players

Chris Morgan was unreal for us but think we can all be honest and say this was purely down to application and attitude. (Which are integral) but coaching was certainly not for him. Not sure being an agent will be right either.

He's a completely different coach to a player, anyone who's worked under him knows that and I think that's unfair to someone who is much more intelligent than people give him credit for.

Morgan's going to have to show restraint with those handshakes then otherwise nobody will be signing anything.

I don’t really get all this agent bollocks, the only reason Football agents exist is due to the huge wages involved. Young footballers don’t need any more or less everyday guidance than their non footballer peers of the same age.
Obviously they require some sound financial advice and some common sense guidance around contract time etc.
However, I don’t see why they need a full time leech creaming off a percentage of their salary each month.
If I had an agent, I’d prefer them to have a legal or accountancy background, but not an ex footballer

The PFA offer a "contract" service and any player on a professional contract (or about to get one) is entitled to use the service.

Yes I struggled to find hidden camera footage of the contract negotiations in progress.......

Well....Chelsea have more players on bigger contracts including maybe image rights and commercial representation. Having said that I would suggest most if not all of the Chesterfield team have agents. A quick glance at this link shows most have agents. https://www.transfermarkt.com/fc-chesterfield/startseite/verein/1219 click on the player and the agency is listed.

I was actually making the comparison between Chelseas Academy and Chesterfields Academy. :(

"sign for us or I'll smash your face in"

"o......o......ok"

He'll make you an offer you can't refuse.
IBy the time I count to ten, either your signature or your brains will be on that contract.

GLTTL Can't believe he's only 40, he's always looked older than that since I've known him.

Morgs was solid, dependable and played at the highest domestic level. If this was war, he is the bloke you would hope would be stood next to you in the trenches. Hard as a rock and would never shirk any danger. Every team needs a Chris Morgan type in defence, JOC could be our next one, he looks no-nonsense. After the infamous Billy Whitehurst, Chris Morgan is the next player in line, in recent Blades history, that you wouldn't want to be waiting for you in the tunnel at half time, in case you had upset him on the pitch.

I once went to one of these "evenings with" which included Morgs, he was asked about agents and young players contracts etc and he said he always told the young players around him "if there is a contract put in front of you then sign it! You don't know whether another will be offered."

Interesting view to have in his new profession.......

The real world has asked me, in the interests of balance, to point out that he was a crude, unimaginative and utterly inept coach who was appointed solely to save money rather then on merit.

His avowed “football” philosophy was “Nowt Fancy, like Bassett”. He played a key role in relegating Chesterfield and Port Vale in the same season. Both sacked him and the phone’s not ringing. Football has decided it can do without him.

Bringimback.

I watched a game when we were last in the PL with a top German centre half. At the end he turned to me and said, best player on the pitch was Morgan. To be honest, I thought he was just ok. But that player had played at the very top and I accepted what he said, though I never saw it myself.

Depends on what you mean by "best". In terms of technical ability, Morgan was probably only ahead of Kenny in that PL side but in terms of knowing his position, reading the game and crucially knowing his limitations he was our best player. How many mistakes did he make that season? I know that he has a reputation as an agricultural centre half but that's because he was well aware that he wasn't going to be able to thread a pin-point through ball, hit the 70 yard diagonal or find the top corner from 35 yards. He knew that his strengths were timing challenges, winning the ball in the air (by any means necessary) and anticipating danger so he played to those.

I'm intrigued how you know that Pinchy given that a lot of the reserve watchers when he was here said that he encouraged passing football.

You could also argue that the fact that Port Vale and Chesterfield are in the bottom four of the fourth division without any input from Morgan suggests that neither side was good enough for the third tier last season. Chicken and egg?

I think you are spot on, that's what he meant. When I said I wasn't convinced by Morgan he just smirked, as if he was saying what the f do you know. He mentioned Morgan's positioning sense and reading of the game.

That moment at his testimonial match right at the end when we got a free kick on the edge of Newcastle's box........up steps Chris Morgan for the storybook ending......

Okay we all knew it wasn't going to go in but for a split second we all believed that it might........

He said it at a fans’ function. It was recorded by our very own Foxy or Linz or both.

If he hadn’t been a favourite player at our club, absolutely nobody would be arguing his corner as a coach.

I think Elbows would make an excellent assistant manager for someone.

I don't see him as an agent, though.

He's not slippery enough, for a start.

will still remember the "if Morgan scores we're on the pitch" chant from when he was getting ready to take it

If I was a manager Morgs would be the first name on the team sheet. Quality player imo, no pissing about defender.
If you wanted a defensive coach to ensure your defenders did the basics right … 100% of the time then he would be your man.

Too many nowadays want to showboat at the wrong times and shirk the real work.

I don't think shearer had that hairline since his Southampton days.
