john barnes dad was a diplomat.. maybe mixed up with someone else??
Chris Morgan was unreal for us but think we can all be honest and say this was purely down to application and attitude. (Which are integral) but coaching was certainly not for him. Not sure being an agent will be right either.
I don’t really get all this agent bollocks, the only reason Football agents exist is due to the huge wages involved. Young footballers don’t need any more or less everyday guidance than their non footballer peers of the same age.
Obviously they require some sound financial advice and some common sense guidance around contract time etc.
However, I don’t see why they need a full time leech creaming off a percentage of their salary each month.
If I had an agent, I’d prefer them to have a legal or accountancy background, but not an ex footballer![]()

Yes I struggled to find hidden camera footage of the contract negotiations in progress.......
Well....Chelsea have more players on bigger contracts including maybe image rights and commercial representation. Having said that I would suggest most if not all of the Chesterfield team have agents. A quick glance at this link shows most have agents. https://www.transfermarkt.com/fc-chesterfield/startseite/verein/1219 click on the player and the agency is listed.
Is wasn’t me guvjohn barnes dad was a diplomat.. maybe mixed up with someone else??
"sign for us or I'll smash your face in"
"o......o......ok"
I watched a game when we were last in the PL with a top German centre half. At the end he turned to me and said, best player on the pitch was Morgan. To be honest, I thought he was just ok. But that player had played at the very top and I accepted what he said, though I never saw it myself.
I'm intrigued how you know that Pinchy given that a lot of the reserve watchers when he was here said that he encouraged passing football. The real world has asked me, in the interests of balance, to point out that he was a crude, unimaginative and utterly inept coach who was appointed solely to save money rather then on merit.
His avowed “football” philosophy was “Nowt Fancy, like Bassett”. He played a key role in relegating Chesterfield and Port Vale in the same season. Both sacked him and the phone’s not ringing. Football has decided it can do without him.
Bringimback.
I think you are spot on, that's what he meant. When I said I wasn't convinced by Morgan he just smirked, as if he was saying what the f do you know. He mentioned Morgan's positioning sense and reading of the game.Depends on what you mean by "best". In terms of technical ability, Morgan was probably only ahead of Kenny in that PL side but in terms of knowing his position, reading the game and crucially knowing his limitations he was our best player. How many mistakes did he make that season? I know that he has a reputation as an agricultural centre half but that's because he was well aware that he wasn't going to be able to thread a pin-point through ball, hit the 70 yard diagonal or find the top corner from 35 yards. He knew that his strengths were timing challenges, winning the ball in the air (by any means necessary) and anticipating danger so he played to those.

You could also argue that the fact that Port Vale and Chesterfield are in the bottom four of the fourth division without any input from Morgan suggests that neither side was good enough for the third tier last season. Chicken and egg?
will still remember the "if Morgan scores we're on the pitch" chant from when he was getting ready to take itThat moment at his testimonial match right at the end when we got a free kick on the edge of Newcastle's box........up steps Chris Morgan for the storybook ending......
Okay we all knew it wasn't going to go in but for a split second we all believed that it might........
If you wanted a defensive coach to ensure your defenders did the basics right … 100% of the time then he would be your man.If I was a manager Morgs would be the first name on the team sheet. Quality player imo, no pissing about defender.
Went to St James Park last night to watch Atalanta. They have a statue of Morgs outside which I found a bit wierd but good to see other clubs recognise true legends of the game despite no links to their club. Bit like Fulham with Michael Jackson
