Can't say I'm surprised by Hughton's comments regarding the way Jamie Murphy has acclimatised to Championship football. It seems JM had a hand in both the goals that gave Brighton the win against Rotherham, naturally Hughton couldn't be happier with his new acquisition's level of performance and his ability to influence a game.

Hope there's a lesson to be learned in all of this, but here we are, sitting on the money that we've been lead to believe will be spent on one of those players (unspecified of course) who are as good as JM and as plentiful so some of us have said. Truth is, here we sit on the JM fee. Of course it's the defence we need to strengthen, plus midfield too, but for christ's sake, in what is meant to be a promotion push, sitting on over a million quid does very little to satisfy my curiosity about the reasoning behind this sale.

Yes, I've heard all the reasons about wanting to play for Scotland etc, but you have to ask, who are SUFC here to please? Surely the club's needs come first? Just ask Man Utd whose interests they considered when their goalkeeper insisted on a move to Real Madrid? Or, somewhere in the mists of SUFC boardroom machinations, did someone decide that it wouldn't matter if we sold a significant player? Beginning a season with this type of attitude probably sums up so much about the way this club is run.

The fact that we start every season in this way is probably a good indicator of why we are spending our 5th season in this god forsaken league!

nice to see a thread thats not bashing the club

well it would be

hes gone get the fuck over it
do I give a flying fuck about a Brighton player this should be in other football threads

players come players go
just so you know Murphy has fuck all connection to this club now
stop with these dull tedious repetitive ball achingly arse holed boring threads
Im fucking bored stiff with them

we sold Agana too but Im over that despite him being 20 times better

Start of season two.. Sold Quinn, didn't go up

Start of season three.. Sold Macdonald, didn't go up

Start of season four... Sold Maguire, didn't go up.

Start of Season five... Sold Murphy. ...... ( fill in the blanks )

Erm - we didn't sell Quinn :o

tn waiting for you t0 explain why you are obsessed with a brighton bench warming player
hes only started half their games

or tell me why you think hes so good when he was invisible in the play offs
when thats the stage for a good player to shine

We did at the start of season 2.

Of course we kept everyone of note at the start of season 1, which is why we were promoted that season.

With the second highest number of points not to have been promoted in The history of The Football League

We should frame that sentence and put it in the Blades museum in the non-trophy cabinet. It can go right next to the "Relegated from the Premier League With A Points Total Usually Enough To Stay Up" tea towel.

The guy you should ask is Chris Hughton, he seems well pleased with his new player and the contribution he's making. Just so you know, I'm not obsessed hence the few posts on this topic I've posted. So stop indulging in hyperbole to prove a point.

Still waiting for that list of players you said you can name, 300 wasn't it?

really that was the only reason selling one player
are you out on day release
so what if Maguire had broken his leg in game one if wed kept him
we sold quinn maguire and murphy to higher divisions so it had no consequence in league one

why do I care what Chris Hughton thinks
Ill say it again we arent Brighton name any league one strinker in the past 30 seasons thats scored more than 12 its around 360

The Brighton fans love him. I was asked to do a 'View From Brighton fans' post about him but Metal Blade beat me to it. They are very impressed with him and he has been man of the match in the last two Brighton games according to many

I understand people's view that we should just move on- he isn't ours any more but you've got to admit we do seem to lose a key player every season.

Playing devils advocate here but if he's been great for two matches that usually means he's going to be nonexistent for the next 3.

someone doesnt watch sky

so just for starters play off finalists Swindon didnt sell anyone say their top scorer, just after we played thenm

Chesterfield didnt sell their striker either I suppose

Well they aren't selling them to us, and over time this has consistently been the case with proven players. As such it's logical to keep hold of proven quality players that are nowhere near the end of their contract. A bird in the hand is worth more than Swindons squad in the bush...

again , who gives a fuck he doesnt play for us
should be in other football

he had 1 or 2 good games for us but also sat on the bench like hes done at brighton

Oh, I get it, we go from 300 available players to 300+ over the last 30 seasons! Why didn't you say you silly boy?

So, if I understand, there aren't many around you can name who are currently available? And just to make sure you see the whole picture, Murphy does far more than score (yes, a few more would have been welcome) but his supply was tip top, so think on what someone like Sharp could do with that quality of service.

Mind you, we've got money in the bank, and we've just dropped 8 out of 9 points.....

your best player ever wasnt just a tad vague then

again , who gives a fuck he doesnt play for us
should be in other football

he had 2 good games for us

So, based on the two games you mention, that would have been enough to get another club to part with £1.5 million? By that criteria, we should expect to get a huge offer for Baxter soon, shouldn't we?

Don't worry blade too long has categorically told us in this thread that losing your best player at the start of every seaon has no ill effect at all, that should erase all our worries now, lock the thread off he's sorted it.
