Most proper and senior finance people at the Lane end up quitting because of frustrations at how poorly we are run.

We seem to have had same amount of "Finance Managers/Directors" as we have managers.

Man. City don't have a football man on the board.

With all the squillions they've got, they're probably not that bothered who the fk sits on the top table. It's just a toy for them

We are on our arse and we just keep making the same mistakes. Lessons to be learned from our failures, but we just seem to keep pressing the repeat button

I'd imagine his brief is to get the club on the right track financially and running smoothly as a large enterprise should plus would expect that expertise n another particularly volatile industry would be a bonus but let's pretend he's just got a big red inked rubber stamp that says "NO" for whenever CW gives him a list of players he wants.
It's a great idea why didn't we think of it bef...

Oh

But he is a football man , he won the Worksop and district under 11's subbuteo challenge cup in the past and recently spent 3years in training on Football manager 13. What more do yer all fuckin want?

Is this a football club or a property company?

Would you appoint someone with lots of football knowledge to a key position within a property company?

No, so why appoint someone with property knowledge to a key position within a football club?

In the interest of balance on this I would imagine whether its property or a football club or whatever business you care to mention, he has being brought in because of his accountancy experience, which probably tells you a lot about McCabe's priorities in keeping the club in good health financially and that's his expertise, presumably. Maybe McCabe thinks his accountancy background will be invaluable and hopefully he is a tough cookie when it comes to negotiating contracts with agents etc. I think we definitely need a director with football experience, but presumably that depends on the job spec that a purely football man would have as their expertise. It would have to be someone who has contacts within football and an experience of business like Harry Bassett did because he did that before he became a full time football man. Someone like the chairman of Swindon springs to mind - Lee Power. Off the top of my head Tony Agana is a top guy, a football man of course, but also worked in business and is someone that conducts himself very well off the field. Just an idea.

Wasn't the crisp man in charge of sorting out contract and transfer negotiations?

I thought he was blames for Clough's spending. I'm not sure what an accountant brings to the table.

...executive appointed.

Blades appoint new Chief Executive
Tue 17 May 2016 17:00

United's off-the-field team has been strengthened. The Club has appointed Stephen Bettis as its new Chief Executive.

Mr Bettis has been working in an advisory capacity with the Blades following the departure of Managing Director Mal Brannigan at the end of last year.

"We are delighted to make Stephen's role permanent, where he will lead our off-the-field activities and liaise closely with new team manager Chris Wilder," said co-owner Kevin McCabe.

Stephen's career commenced in an Accountancy Practice where he qualified as an accountant and obtained several years' experience. He then moved into industry and subsequently became a Finance Director and shareholder of a Property Investment and Development Company, which invested in property throughout Europe for 17 years.

Mr Bettis will also become a director of the Club.

Congratulations Sean Thornton on your new role with the club ;)

( well if WHF was Adkins...)

1. Accountancy

2. Property development

3. Key football related role at a big professional football club

It's the natural progression.

Barnsley appointed Mansford who was a lawyer from a firm in Leeds as Chief Exec and he's done a good job. Trevor Birch had numerous jobs in football, as did Terry Robinson, and they were widely panned on here.

Summary - Whatever SUFC do some people will moan.

True and a fair point Rodley

Flip side is tho, we've been absolutely fkin shite for longer than I care to remember. Perhaps, just perhaps, we have good reason to moan.

It's time for this board of ours to start making some correct decisions instead of bad after bad

I don't disagree with you. I think McCabes weakness at SUFC IMHO, is not lack of investment, but recruiting poorly in key areas of personnel.

Let's hope the new lad does the business.

Another faceless suit pinching a living, if he wants to do that get him a pair of boots

Where's the mention of it being a key football related position.

If we want a football man in charge, Baxters not doing much. Or a fan who goes to games, they'll be able to do it surely?

"liaise closely with new team manager Chris Wilder,"

That to me suggests it'll be football related, and possibly that he'll be Wilder's first point of contact at board level.

To me it reads it will be budget related rather than a decision on football matters.
You'd expect a CEO of a football club to liaise with the bloke wanting to sign players.

Whoever it was didn't seem to do a very good job of it during Adkins reign.

Well maybe Adkins decided to spend whatever budget on abject failures when the vast majority of us expected much better. Where do we drawn the line with managers? Appoint in effect a football manager above him saying yes or no based on the budget available?

We could have just appointed someone like Alan Johnson. As we seem to appoint people who make little difference to the way the club is run.

Ha ha, brilliant!

This is what its been like listening to Adkins all season, with a bit of Brent thrown in.

Really upset. I thought Wayne Allison had come back to help sort things out!
Where? On the pitch?
He's still better than all the cunts representing us now. Am fucking livid listening to pigs then fucking Dingles getting to Wembley , lauded by some fucking turnip on radio sheffield. Meanwhile we have Bily fucking Sharp as our achiever of the season.
