Chengdu Blades: The Failed Experiment

Feller - everyone is sticking the boot in. The latest is gonna be the messy outcome of this here court case, which everyone is ignoring. I'm just glad we have Wilder and the current playing staff doing what they are doing out there to take our minds off it. I still maintain that if the miracle is fulfilled and we make it upstairs, we'll be looking at the transfer window on 31 Aug this year thinking 'FFS, are you lot gonna buy someone?' and we'll get Nugent, on loan or summat.

I know everyone's sticking the boot in. Everyone else seems to be sticking to facts though.

There are plenty of reasons to be disgruntled with the ownership, past and present, without telling lies about McCabe's connections with Baki.

One example of this that springs to mind was New Years Day, away to Middlesboro. Along with dozens of other Blades, we'd stopped off in Thirsk for a beer before the game. It was whilst we were in the pub, that we learned we'd just signed Ade Akinbiyi - we were all pretty stunned by that news!

You may wish to re-examine this memory: We signed Akinbiyi in the 05/06, when we were in the championship- at which point Middlesbrough were in the PL.

I remember questioning Mcabe’s then bagman Terry Robinson in the mid 2000s at a fans forum about the wisdom of these foreign adventures and whether it was viable for a club like United, not an established name on the international scene, to be going down this route.

I was more or less told by old Terry I didn’t know what I was talking about and to basically shut up and of course got the wrath of the “lucky to have him brigade” who are always wheeled out at these forums and why I don’t attend them anymore.

Guess what? I was right and he and they where wrong.

Those forums were laughable at times.

A personal highlight was Blackwell and Turry talking about their trip to Sao Paulo, and all they went on about was how big and strong the youth players were.

Throw in the geriatric fan boys on the front rows clapping and nodding like demented seals at McCabe, or booing and hissing at awkward questions, and it felt like some sort of cult.

McCabe was actually prescient with this idea. It's been copied by premier league clubs since. We got the most important bit wrong though: a successful Sheffield United first team which raises questions about whether monies were diverted in the wrong areas.

Should have bought a centre forward instead.

That should always be the priority.

Obviously I wasn’t clear.
Not someone to interfere with the managers job in regards to team selection or tactics.
By all football decisions I meant those that McCabe made in the past.
Someone to make manager appointments, someone who understands modern football and can advise on budgets, expectations and lead negotiations.

As an example , someone who can say to the owners “In the current market that’s not a lot of money for Brooks , I’d advise we hang on till January” or “ We have a decent squad of footballers that would probably be wasted with Kevin Blackwell’s tactics”
I'm OK with the idea of a DOF as long as the interaction is mainly with the manager, rather than the owner.
I would want Wilder to be saying to a DOF," We've got a good chance of going up this season. I have identified these three players who will improve us and make us a much better side. I've given you their names, now go and get them for me while I concentrate on the team."
Rather than a DOF coming to Wilder and saying,"Me and the owner have identified and bought these three players for you, who we think will get us to the PL. The first one is a bit of a moaner, who, if he finds out he is being paid less than the others will chuck his dummy out of the pram and will refuse to play for you. He will also be injured for a lot of the time, but I'm sure you will cope. The second player was good a few seasons ago but has hit a bit of a dry patch with regards to scoring goals and he will probably decline to take a penalty in a a crucial game, such as a play off semi final. The third player can score goals and will ping them in from 30 yards or so and will win goal of the month, but only on rare occasions will he score these goals. The rest of the time he will be pretty average."

What is 'lies'?

McCabe was involved in the club where Baki was employed. He owned a half of it. Does he not share half of the responsibility for employing an ex hoolie with no job description and broadcasting it to the public, some of whom were actively bone-on about it?

What is 'lies'?

This:
I am suggesting that Chngdu, Ferencvaros, Sao Paulo and Baki were part of a series of failed ventures into some or other overseas market whereby McCabe possibly made one or two miscalculations.
You're saying that baki were part of McCabe's "failed ventures" - which is not true.

McCabe was involved in the club where Baki was employed. He owned a half of it. Does he not share half of the responsibility for employing an ex hoolie with no job description and broadcasting it to the public, some of whom were actively bone-on about it?

Baki was an investment advisor to the Prince, see below:

Well United didn't buy Ferencvaros so not unreasonable to ignore the rest of it.
McCabe bought Ferencvaros.
McCabe owned United.

It's more than fair to say it is in our interests to read the article. Why be so facetious?

Why is quoting a fact facetious? United didn’t pay a penny for Fradi. Your emotional hatred of McCabe shouldn’t prevent you accepting the truth.

Originally written by one of those Wendy bastards you keep posting about. Anything other than McCabe and you’d be rubbishing it.

OK. Facts are facts. It had nothing to do with Sheffield United.
