Sorry if someone as already referenced this.
Ched Evans said there is no reason he would want to leave and would like to stay. Said it in an RS interview.

Lets hope thats the case.
IF we go up then he deserves another crack at the Championship with us.

Not sure if its the same interview, but wasnt't he talking about during the JTW?

I'm sure he wants to prove himself, with us in the Championship and I reckon he'll score a hatful with us.

The interview I heard this morning he said that he nearly left in December, but things fell through at the last minute. Bloody God job then!

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11683/7533344/ Sign him up!

For the clickless: Sheffield United striker Ched Evans says he does not want to leave the club in the summer and is hoping to agree a new contract.

Evans' present deal expires at the end of the season and the 23-year-old is eager to help the Blades win promotion back to the Championship.

He scored a brace in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Preston North End, after earlier missing a penalty, to take his tally for the season to 21 goals in all competitions.

The former Manchester City youngster is enjoying playing for Danny Wilson's side and he is focused on staying at Bramall Lane.
Buzzing

"My contract is up at the end of the season and what happens then is out of my hands to a large extent," said Evans in The Sun.

"But I would really like to stay. There is no point in leaving somewhere when you are enjoying your football as much as I am.

"We are playing great football, scoring goals, we're second in the league and everyone is buzzing. It is a brilliant place to be. Everyone knows this is a huge club.

"I have also got so much respect for the gaffer Danny Wilson and I appreciate the faith he has in me.

"I am in the best form of my career and that is down to the manager, the kind of football we play and the fact I have got players of great quality all around me."

Cheers Aml, that makes extremely good reading...

the first thing we need to do is get promoted. Then we have to convince him that SUFC is the right place for him.

"Everyone knows this is a huge club.

Good lad. Huge not massive. No need to exaggerate.

While I'd love him to sign a new deal on fair terms I think this is all guff, rather similar to what Hendo said when he was on his way out.

If we want to get any compensation for Ched we have to offer him a deal on terms comparable to what he had on his previous contract. That isn't going to happen.

Personally I would love him to be talking "on the level", and realise that he's going to have to take a large pay cut but still be happy to stay. Despite this season he still has lots to prove at Championship level but he has always had the talent, he just needed the confidence and a manager who knows how he works.

Too many times do we hear these types of quotes, and they are just trotting out the stuff fans want to here. I just hope, for once, a player can see which side his bread is buttered and realises that there isn't much more on offer elsewhere. Apart from more money of course.

"Its out of my hands" no Ched it really isn't, you can instruct your agent to make a deal on lower terms if that is what you really want.

Sometime in April but it doesn't stop him signing a deal with a clause to dissolve it should he be convicted of a serious crime.

So while it might not be realistic, its not out of his hands.

I suppose the questions are, would anybody else be willing to pay him his current salary and how much does he value living in Sheffield and playing for SUFC versus the monetary gains he may make elsewhere.

SUFC will offer him a contract, and I see no reason why he shouldn’t remain the highest earner, but it needs to fit within reduced budgets so it’s likely to be less than his current wages. No doubt he’ll have offers from elsewhere and then it’s his call. As per usual, all the power is in the players hands.

Got to say though, Ched seems a decent lad (rape allegations aside) and I get the impression he has a great deal of respect for Wilson and those who have stood by him, so I can’t see him holding anybody to ransom, making silly demands or taking the piss. It’ll all boil down to how much we offer him and how that compares with his alternative offers.

Baseless speculation here, but I think if it was solely upto Ched I think he'd sign a new deal with us for next season. Its just once his agent starts talking about other opportunities elsewhere that I fear we might lose out.

Bias aside, if we go up I would think he would well advised to stay within a structure he knows but will his agent advise the same?

Do we know who is his agent btw?

How can he sign a deal until he knows what level we'll be playing football at next season?

Personally I think (although its a cliche) that anything that can get in the way of football should be minimised until the job is done. Contract negotiations seemed long drawn out affairs nowadays and if it affects his form then it should be left till the end of the season

Plus, Ched is just 8 goals off the golden boot (12 off for the division)

Where do we get this idea that players are putty in the hands of their agents? If Ched wants to stay at the Lane, all he has to say to his agent is "I want to stay at the Lane, negotiate me the best deal you can".

But even if CE does want to stay at the Lane, it's not really good negotiating tactics for him or his agent to say that. He will get the best deal from United if they think he has other options.

Does anybody know when the rape trial is exactly? Early April? Late April?
The Yorkshire Post says our promotion should be assured by then which seems a bit optimistic.
If he was found innocent how many matches is he likely to miss while the trial goes on? 2 weeks / 3 weeks?

'Evans will make his return to the international stage when Wales play Costa Rica on February 29 in a memorial game for Gary Speed.'

He won't be playing against Scunny then :(

Surely we don't have to release him for a friendly?

i doubt he'll be in the squad at all. I believe he's banned from Wales until the trial, as he had to ask permission to have it briefly lifted so he could visit his parents at Christmas.

The agents thing isn't exclusive to Ched and of course the agent has his fee to earn... so a level of bias will always come from the Agent. I can imagine a conversation like this.

Ched: I want to stay at United. I don't mind taking a dip in wages for a year or so. I've made enough from them
Agent: Yeah I agree, I'll see what Cardiff and Swansea can offer. They're both in higher leagues and can offer better cash and you'll be in wales
Ched: Yeah but I like it here, Danny Wilson has really done wonders for me
Agent: Ok i'll check with the Blades, but I'm convinced that they can't offer you what Cardiff & Swansea can. The Blades are bankrupt, I asked Gary Megson.
Ched: Well Danny reckons that they can offer me a fair contract
Agent: Hey, well if thats what you want, then you don't need me do you? All i'm saying is that you should have the other "potential" deals on the table, helps you negotiate a better deal.
Ched: Oh ok, that makes sense, ok see what they say. But I still want to stay here, so speak to McCabe as well
Agent: I'll get back to you by the end of the week.

A few days later....

Agent: Ched, Spoke to Cardiff and Swansea. They both want to give you a great deal.
Ched: Ok thats good, did you speak to McCabe.
Agent: Yep. He couldn't get near the Cardiff deal.
Ched: Oh ok, but I'll get first team football at the Blades, the fans love me.
Agent: Yeah, but fans love won't pay the bills
Ched: Danny spoke to me and told me the deal that they offered. It seemed decent. I really want to play for Danny.
Agent: oh jeez! what is it with you and Danny. You've got to think about Ched. And since when do you start discussing contractual shit, without me. You know how you are with money. Leave the cash issues to me, thats why you pay me 25% of everything that you earn.
Ched: 25%? You're only getting 8% on my current deal.
Agent: Yes but i'm getting you a new deal to match your current deal. You won't get anywhere near that at the lane! So you can thank me for that

(this may or may not be a fair representation of any current, past or future agent)

The agent's job spec is to negotiate the best deal in monetary terms for the player. That's why he is paid on commission, because, on that basis, his interests and the player's interest conincide. If the player is not motivated by money and just wants to play for one particular club and will play for whatever they will offer him, he doesn't need an agent.

I am not sure such a player exists.

As it happens Darren, Paul Scholes has never had an agent, which sort of confirms you theory. However, James Milner is another who's never had an agent and he has moved several times, although I understand he uses a PFA rep to negotiate any deals. As he is quoted as saying, 'that's what I pay the PFA subscription for!'
