Deffo had one saved in front of the Kop on his final season. can't remember who against tho

Fair enough. I can't remember but perhaps it's just senility kicking in.

I think we can probably all agree that Sharp should no longer take penalties though. I think I could have managed a better conversion rate. Evans is a good striker of the ball so would probably convert a good ratio but from the players we have, I would think Fleck, Duffy or maybe Clarke (when he's on the pitch) would be a better bet

Numerous reasons why I think Ched would be a bad singing. Firstly, his fitness is woeful. He's missing games constantly and we're in a promotion race after Christmas. We need players who can come in and have an instant impact. Not 1 game on, 2 games off. Secondly, it's just unnecessary controversy and I can't be bothered listening to our fans treat him as a hero. Thirdly, he isn't pacy or renowned for great movement. I don't see why he would compliment our current options. I wish we'd get over him and move on now.

We need Bogle not Ched

Bogle will end up in the Championship, my hunch would be Wolves.

We don't know what, (if anything) may be happening behind the scenes with Ched....for all we know a deal may already be done and his "injury" is similar to Beattie's flu...meantime he is keeping himself fit away from Chesterfield. He hasn't played regular football for 4 years but still stretched our defence inside out playing for a poor side so a week or so of high tempo training at Shirecliffe would have him up to speed.

I get the bit about controversy. I really do.

But do you honestly believe a fit and healthy Evans would not be a big improvement on what we have ? Especially as a suitable partner for our existing top scorer, who at present, struggles for a partner to properly compliment his own attributes ?

That's the bit that people are ignoring.. So far this season he isn't fit and healthy. He's missing too many games for what we need. We've got rid of most of our crocks, and now people want to spunk a load of money on someone that may never get full fitness back. 4 years out for a professional is a long time.

Perfectly understandable reservations.

Does your opinion change if his contract is £2,000 p.w with bits and bobs on top for goals / appearances / promotion etc etc ?

On top of a pack of crisps and a mars bar for a transfer fee ?

He would probably cost £200k-£300k and he has had a couple of spells out injured already this season. He is on (apparently) £2k per week at Chessie so i would have thought we would have to pay him more to prise him away and, potentially, he would have to pass up a chance of playing in a league higher next season (i know, glass half empty but I am a Blade :-) )

On that basis I would rather spend the money elsewhere.

I don't think Ched would be cheap, Chesterfield know how good he is, how good he can be and they have the option to extend his contract.

But as things stand I think he could be affordable. It would be best if he can stay under the radar between now and January, maybe by missing one or two games and not scoring many. That way the interest shouldn't be too high and Chesterfield's negotiating position won't be as strong - but they will need to sell.

The fitness issues are a possible concern but I don't see why he should have any problems long term. He was never injury prone and has good natural fitness.

Ricky, there'll be very little interest - maybe a couple of paragraphs in a few of the red-tops.
National interest disappeared after the courts verdict once the hype about the girls sexual history disclosure died down - no one's really interested in Ched any more.

I didn't mean public interest, I'm not bothered about that at all. I mean interest from other clubs. If he's quiet until January then I don't think many Championship clubs will be too desperate to take a punt on him. As it stands it's set up quite nicely for us to sign him.

Get him on a contract like that, excluding the Mars bar and I'd take him without a doubt. I'm against signing him because I think we could get someone younger, with more potential for the same/less money - If that's wrong and we can get him cheap and on a sensible contract I am all for signing him.

I just don't want a repeat of the Brayford saga, paying too much and limiting us elsewhere.

Bumped into someone who is usually "in the know" today, on my way to BDTBL, and he says the Ched deal is off. According to him, SUFC and Chesterfield agreed a fee of £250,000 some weeks ago, Ched wants to come back, but the board is split, and with everything (seemingly) going well on the pitch and behind closed doors, there is a reluctance to change things.

Take it with a pinch of salt, but this bloke has been correct on the last few things he told me.

That would be really intelligent of our board.

Deny us the services of a striker who'll all but guarantee us promotion, at a cheap price.

All because of the imaginary problems he might create.

And then miss out on promotion by two points due to our inability to break teams down when it matters.

Surely Wilder should have the final say though?

Ricky, it might not be 100% accurate, so don't get too upset yet. This bloke has told me things in the past that all came to fruition, and he did say the board was split, so maybe still time for things to change.

The encouraging part for me, is that it looks like the board will back CW with cash for the right players in January.

It sounds worryingly believable.

If they decide against it then they have some explaining to do. Especially if he goes to a rival and fires them to promotion.

The majority of fans want him back. He's a quality player. 250k would be incredibly cheap. We need another reliable striker.

What reasons are there not to sign him? I've got an open mind and I've not seen a single good reason.

If they do refuse to sanction it then they better fund the signing of another quality striker. Although I'm extremely doubtful we could get the same value with anybody else.

I agree pal, a proven scorer at this level.

I heard today that there is no way United will resign Ched......but it's more to do with something that happened between Karl Massey and SUFC...we have also been watching Bogle but it is the lad from Dundalk we really want.

Also talk of a new wide player, centre back and right back, (NOT Bradford coming back)....Freeman possibly off....Face doesn't fit evidently...

Have to say I would be pissed off by this, I think Freeman has had a good season so far, worked his socks off and is an integral part of the team

If Massey's going to prevent Ched from doing what he wants to do and should do and come back to us then what a bellend.

We can dream on with Bogle. Doubt we want to Dundalk player more than anyone.

Freeman leaving would be a surprise and could only be to do with attitude.

A fall out between McCabe and Karl Massey was widely reported after we went back on our word to sign Ched. It was reported that the pair refused to shake hands.
