Incoming? Ched Evans

We have a great chance this season , the best since 2012 , BUT we must strengthen in January , despite already having 27 in the squad.

We have to keep EEL.

We have to get another CB – we are playing 3 in every game , so we need more than 4 plus Basham in the squad. James Wilson has clearly not impressed CW.

There is talk of ANOTHER goalie , if Long leaves (he is never in the matchday squad).

We are still short of a midfield general / hard-man – if Fleck/Basham gets injured (or Basham has to play CB) , we are light there.

And we are far too reliant on Billy up front.

After a mixed period of form (in his play, not in his goals) , he had a storming game at Bradford.................but if he gets injured before Clarke is fit , we are threadbare up front. Our biggest risk area.

Evans has 6 months left on his contract at Chezie – surely we can nab him in January with bigger wages & a longer contract than Chesterfield can offer , especially if Clarkes injury is career-ending.

Probably said "I wouldn't rule anyone in or out at this stage"......which means nothing really!

Or.....CW could be playing a bit of kidology ahead of sunday but to be honest I think Mourinho style games are well beneath our say it as you see it boss.

I bet Chris Wilder would refuse to rule out the possibility of Lionel Messi coming to the club.
Means nowt

I think it's worse than a none story, I think the constant links to him & the media attention it attracts could cause a distraction in January - imagine the headline "Blades to sell star & use money to buy Evans" - we just need to let him go and both move on!

I can't decide whether we need another striker or not , a couple of weeks back we only had Sharp and Done and the latter broke his cheek bone. Since then it seems Clarke and Lavery are ready to go and Chapman has scored a hat trick so we've got 5 potential strikers.

These rumours aren't going away and when Giddings tweets something like that it adds substance, would he be a great addition or potentially be a distraction ? It's not like we are struggling to score is it ?

Giddings is playing Devils Advocate here, he asked Wilder a question he replied we are looking at a number of players and all options would be considered and any of these players could play of SUFC

I'm choosing to read into this massively...

IMO Ched would guarantee us promotion. He'll only get better now and teams simply wouldn't cope with him, Sharp, Duffy, Coutts, Fleck and the rest.

Even if we're looking healthy in the striker department, if he's available at a good price, especially if it's only us who can get him at that price, then we should take the opportunity to sign him. You shouldn't turn down a chance to sign someone better than what you've got. You certainly shouldn't turn down a unique chance to cheaply sign someone who's better than anything else you could otherwise afford. As long as we're in a good position we've got to have one eye on the Championship, and Ched could save us a lot of money and make any transition to what is now a very strong league that bit easier for us.

Don't think it will happen though. Too good to be true. Too much of a fairytale. He'll either go somewhere like Villa or give Chesterfield a full season.

When the failed
To
Sign Ched IMO United burnt their bridges after letting Ched down to appease the harpies and self seeking publicists like certain so-called celebreties posing as fans
If I weteChed it would be thanks but no thanks

Is our leader on dealing terms with
Karl Cheds father in law yet?

Well it's not as if scoring has been a problem for Evans, has it?

Andy giddings quoting on twitter '#sufc boss Chris Wilder refuses to rule out the possibility that #chesterfieldfc striker Ched Evans could return to club.'

Who knows...

And I'm refusing to rule out the possibility of Gwyneth Paltrow taking me for a pint and a pie at the Broadie. Spirulina and chia seed probably. We'll see....

Of course the decision to not sign him or even let him use the training facilities was far more complicated than a lot of people are aware of.

I can see the logic and get the argument for trying to sign him in Jan (or summer) but in order to do so the following would need to be aligned - Wilder's desire to sign him, Evans wanting to return (& not either stay at Chessie or go elsewhere), the state of the McCabe/Massie relationship, agreeable fee (do Chessie have an option on his contract?), wage demands. All in all I still think signing him is a long shot.

There's no way Ched would choose to stay at Chesterfield if were top at Xmas and Chesterfield are still down near the bottom...

...and there's no way Chesterfield would refuse a half-reasonable offer for a player who could otherwise leave for nothing at the end of the season.

If there's chance to get Ched in the JTW then get him signed, he would galvanise most of the support, add to an area where we have been mostly weak this season (Clarke's looked alright and should be a good addition now he's fit, Sharps had 2 or 3 good games only, Done done's ok and Lavery is well off the pace currently) and his goals would virtually guarantee promotion.

I'm surprised at posters who think that there'd be a chance of this happening? The moment United decided to have nothing to do with Evans was the end of any dream return. Evans will look elsewhere, and once that happens I hope this particular penny will have dropped and convinced those who continue to dream that any chance of signing Evans will have vanished once and for all.

Lavery wouldn't even go there, neither would Clarke. Why would they? And why would you want to give up on Lavery having seen nothing of him?

If we were to do a swap deal, and I'm sure it's something Wilder's considered, then McNulty and Reed are the prime candidates, but they'd probably only go on loan. Maybe we could offer to pay all their wages. McNulty needs first team football now, simple as that, and he'd be daft not to go there and play regularly.
