Ched Evans scenario

A lot of wishful thinking in this thread.
Coutts is the battery in the watch as someone once said and he is going to be immensely difficult to replace.
We don't currently have anyone who can play the same way and the impact is likely to be significant.
The transfer window is going to be key but even then we've probably got around 8 or so games until we get there, plus a new player potentially needing a little time to settle in.
Probably a miracle too far for Wilder this time.

Well of course.

Chris Wilder didn't forsee any of our players incurring long term injuries when he was putting this team together and completely revolutionising the entire ethos of the club.

Some of the reactions from fans since Friday have been pathetic quite frankly, both on here and from the shite I've overheard. I sincerely hope our manager and squad have a pair of bollocks at least. We'd be doomed with some of you lot in charge.

Fuck me,talk about spineless and running up the white flag, let's hope the players and management don't adopt this lily livered woe is me attitude

What an overly negative post. Coutts is a quality player but recently we have had one game without Coutts and one game without Fleck. We still looked quality without Coutts we looked poor without Fleck.

Massive over reaction from some for me, yes it's crap and bad luck but midfield is the one position were we have quality and quality back up as well. Best case someone steps up and we carry on like before, worst case we struggle to January and replace him, can't see us struggling though to be honest, we are a completely different United under Wilder and he seems to thrive under adversity.

How many were bemoaning our injury luck before the Derby, yet we battered em in their own back yard.

I don't think they're going to stop trying or run up a white flag and I'll not think Lundstram is spineless just because he can't play like Coutts.

Let's pack in and forfeit all our remaining matches. Seems the right thing to do.

And we really must start an online petition to get Marvin Sordell banned from all football forever and ever. Amen.

Totally different situation.

When Ched was in his pomp in 2012 we became virtually a 1 man team, he was truely fantastic for 6 months, better than Coutts has ever been on an individual level.

Now we are a team, where no player is indespensible.

This is where the sports psychologist side of Mr Wilder (or whoever they use) gets the rest of the squad’s heads straight & focused.
This is where the number of experienced players should play a role. Many will have seen this all before, and some will have been the injured player. I think the issue will be be how we adapt tactically as a team, cause whoever plays won't have his first touch.

As for the op, Clearly this is nothing like the Evans situation.

you're missing the point we won't play the same way

There is no right moment to lose one of your better players but a month or so before the transfer window isn't the worst. It's certainly not like the Evans situation where we had 3 games left, no replacement at all and no chance of getting anybody in.

Just wondering where we might be looking to strengthen in January? Would be up front for me. As for Evans, he's going to get stick wherever he goes, so I imagine him being limited to home matches or a 89th minute sub at away matches. At the moment he's nothing more than a filler. Can't see him getting picked ahead of Sharp and Clarke

No.

Easy to allow the injury to Coutts to get to them unless someone’s giving them the right things to focus on.

25 thousand Blades will make up any difference.

If we all sing

For Coutts, we're gonna do you for Coutts, we're gonna do you for Coutts.

We can lift the players, management and ourselves to an even greater level.

Sing loud, sing proud.

One club, one mission, one dream.

Dream Positive. UTB

Will the devastating injury to Coutts cause us to fall away just like the Ched conviction did when we were going like a train in the 1st division a few years ago. I hope and pray it doesn't but have a feeling that it could and the similarity to the Evans situation is unreal, two players playing out of their skin and both taken away at the wrong moment. I will get behind Coutts replacement 100% and wish whoever it is all the best in filling the gap left by the maestro.

Unreal? But It's not similar at all.

Coutts got injured in a challenge whilst doing what he's paid to do, wearing the shirt and representing the club we all support. Unlucky and Part and parcel of the game. A player taken away at the wrong moment...

Evans, in his own free time, put himself in a position away from the field of play, representing himself and not the club we all, support, and, regardless of the law and whether it was broken or not, is a player who took himself away at the wrong moment.

That's why we now need a replacement for Coutts and why Evans will only ever be a replacement...if he's even that.

The Evans scenario happened with just 3 games left in the season, and one of those games was the day after he was found guilty. There really was very little time for us to recover.

Coutts is just as important to us as Evans (albeit in a different way), and it remains to be seen how much of a dent his absence will cause, but the circumstances are very different.

Do one Pig

Never takes you long to get personal does it.

Wilder will have planned for this and I think we have players who might be able to step up, but in terms of natural ability, Coutts is the best player we have. It cannot be completely ignored and it will be a test for the whole team because of how we play.

Showing concern for his absence does not make someone a pig. Not showing a shred of concern because “Lundstram will sort it” is naive.

Absolutely no comparison. This season, Coutts has started 16 games and scored 1. In 2011/12, Ched started 30 games and scored 29. Of course PC will be missed but we've got time, the JTW and our position* on our side. (*When we lost Rob Hulse, we were perennial relegation fodder that year, so had little or no chance to recover from his loss). We've just lost one side of The Golden Triangle, but not irreplaceable.

No championship clubs have a player "just like Coutts" sat on the bench, waiting for something like this. It's ridiculous to think that there would be or that Wilder is shortsighted enough not to think this through when signing the likes of Lundstram or Carruthers.

Maybe some need more faith based on what Wilder has achieved rather than write the season off in November? Even with Coutts injury, look where we are. Why would anyone do that?

I don't think it's the same level. Ched was our absolute talisman and we failed to win a single league game (excluding the play off home leg when we scored 1) one we lost him. This season, we have already played without Coutts and battered Ipswich. Losing Coutts is a big blow, but not a crippling knee cap strike like Evans was.

As if I'm going to take a blind bit of notice of anything you say,you don't think Pedro is a Pig,that's your prerogative,I think he is a Pig,is that clear enough for you?

I see where you are coming from buddy but the difference this time around is that we’ve got time to take stock, and even recruit in a few weeks time and we’ve still got top midfield players in the squad. In the case of Evans, we’d not only lost him but his replacement, and there wasn’t enough time left to change things around. We need to trust Wilder to do the whatever’s needed and I’m sure he will.

On another matter though, I’m surprised that anybody would ‘like’ your your prophesy of doom. ;)

Chin up you half empties and UTB!

And of course, there’s a chance that Wilder will find a player as good Couttsy if he needs to. Maybe not an exact Coutts clone but a player with slightly different attributes that will help the overall cause like for example more goals or a bit stronger defensively.
