Ched Evans interview

Ched was a proper cunt to his partner and has been forgiven. The media, high profile celebs and some of our fans have treat Ched like a cunt and still don’t forgive him, hows about let’s get on with the football and more importantly life in general because if his partner who doesn’t need his money can forgive him then why can’t every other sad fucker?

As a player on the staff of a football club pressing for promotion to it, then of course all our players have the ambition to play in the Premier League.

It would be 'awkward' if he didn't hold that ambition.

Welcome to Yorkshire where you are despised for having ambition, welcome to acceptable mediocrity.

Not that for me Vorps.

I had my say about the situation at the time so not going to go over old ground. The facts are, he was acquitted and he was allowed to try and resurrect his career.

But play for Wales and in the Premier League? He's not shown anything like the form needed so far (bad luck with injury to be fair) and it's starting to look like he might never find that form again.

regardless that his ambition - I applaud him for being ambitious

& on the subject of form. it is a difficult situation that he is in - you need GAMES so you can pick up your personal form. But its difficult for Ched to get in the team, this is the same for Brooks, Moore, Carruthers and quite a few other players ...... these players look laggardly for lack of match time compared with the regulars ..... of course they do.

So don't dismiss the prowess of players like these because they have had difficult times in their careers (as I have seen applied to Brooks for heaven's sake).

Evans has had extraordinary problems that are well recorded, it may prove impossible for him to get back to his previous standard - he's missed years from his career including injuries last season and this ... but if that hasn't dented his ambition good for him.

The Talksport phone-in has finished now

Jim White did mention that after the interview Ched was doubtful that Talksport would run the interview and invite a phone-in as it was courting controversy. However Jim explained that Talksport don’t shirk from facing difficult issues and they wanted to bring his story back into the public eye and test public opinion.

Thankfully for Ched, It was really positive regards repairing his damaged reputation. Almost every caller was in support.

Jim White said he expected the tweets might be more 50/50 but was really surprised how the vast majority, maybe 80 or 90% were in support of Ched.

Simon Jordan even said that if he was Ched he would get his management team to use this interview to encourage the media to run more supportive stories to repair the damage they did a years ago.

And we owe her nothing - she's had plenty of time to admit her stance was wrong and the facts now prove it. As for her - extremely brief - Olympics success, she's back to doing what she does best, hoovering up money from Santander and Vitality.

As our next match is against Brentford, it's worth remembering that her one and only game as a 'fan' was v. Brentford on 16th April, 2013.

'She never asked for the stand to be named after her'? There's always the word 'No'. But then, she's used to inhabiting that bastion of moral rectitude, athletics.

Aye, that extremely brief success she enjoyed for only ten years before 2007 and 2016 including two Olympics.
Blink and you'll have missed it:-

Olympics? And yes, I've almost heard of some of those events.

So the fact you've never heard of the Athletics World and European Championships means she wasn't successful? A clue. She was.
She was the most successful all-round female athlete in the World between 2009 and 2015. What's your claim to fame?

True, it’s not personal, wouldn’t surprise me if Jess has no real opinion on Ched and has no feeling towards SU.

This is all down to her management team that have a duty to protect her reputation and sponsorship income,
Her links to SU could have been reallly damaging costing her £10000.s.

So her advisors took the professional line
And advised that they will release a statement clearly distancing themselves from SU due to the Ched situation.

This will have won her brownie points and made her even more of a fantastic role model, improving her value even more.

Put yourselves in Jess Ennis position, if your managements approached you to explain a time bomb was approaching
And you had 2 options, either have your hard earnt reputation severely damaged through no fault of your own or improve your reputation and sponsorship income even more.

So I don’t think anyone can blame Jessica Ennis, events meant she was backed in a corner and her advisors gave her ONE realistic option, which she took. In the real world everyone would do exactly the same.

This is me pretending to be in Jess Ennis's position.

SUFC: Well done in t'heptahlon in t'olympics Jess. We're thinking of naming the Bramall Lane stand after you, what do you reckon?

JESS ENNIS: Nah, you're reyt.

SUFC: Why not?

JESS ENNIS: Not interested mate.

I was merely attacking a post, not a poster. You should try it.

What an idiot you are.

Ditto.

What an idiot you are, Jess is one of the finest sports women this country has seen and one of Sheffield’s own. Jess didn’t ask to have a stand named after her that was McCabe’s doing and was a bit cringe worthy. She was right to speak out over a convicted rapist and did nothing wrong at the time.

No, you were attacking Jess Ennis and stating she was only briefly successful.
I'm disputing that and suggesting that she was hugely successful over a long period of time.
But everything's relative. If you are Daley Thompson or Michael Phelps then maybe Jess doesn't seem to have achieved much by comparison with yourself.

I understand that she wasn’t paid to allow the club to use her name but she didn’t pay us either.
There was no prospective sponsors at the time, so McCabe thought he’d try to use a positive “success brand name” and link it to Sheffield United.

I understand she wasn’t bothered either way. She has negligabke interest in Sheffield.United.
She didn’t receive any money. It was more her boyfriends idea to forge the link, as his family are Blades.
Also her management team will play a big role in any decisions.

It’s not in common where successful brands forge links, a mutually beneficial relationship where no money changes hands.

While we're at it can we just take a moment to remember what a total cunt Charlie Webster was and is.

Although you could easily be forgiven for completely forgetting who she is....

Again I don’t see it like that, it’s not personal, it’s business which almost everyone lives by these days.
These career women have managerial advisors who see an opportunity to further their clients careers.
I’m sure she will have been encouraged to release her story as it was likely to improve her career/ income.

Again I ask, if an expert advisor gives you advise to boost your career, then most would take it.
Also at the time Ched was guilty, so the criticism was technically correct at the time.

No no no.

Webster went above and beyond as often as she possibly could in her own quest for publicity and approval, no matter how many times it involved throwing 'her' own club under the bus in the process.

She was a disgrace.

It's a good job she isn't famous like Ennis, because what Ennis did was nothing in comparison.

Couple of organisations going under the radar here.

Firstly Sheffield City Council. It was their responsibility to name something after Jess Ennis after the Olympics in August 2012. Of course the ideal place would have been Don Valley Stadium which of course was earmarked for demolition in January 2013. In steps SUFC to bail the council out. What happens the club is criticised for offering their support while the Council removes itself from all the fuss and concentrates on raping the city of its title 'the greenest city in Europe'.

Secondly, North Wales Police Force. The young lady who spent some time with Ched at the Premier Inn went to the said police force to report a stolen handbag. North Wales police persuaded her that she ought to be crying rape. Now everyone is blamed, everyone is accused of not apologising while this particular police force like our council sits quietly removing itself from all the fallout.

Good luck Ched.

I agree to a degree so why can’t she come out now like the rest of them should and apologise to Ched as she has a right to speak out on it now and will again have done nothing wrong in apologising?

It’s at best contradictory from all of the high profile names concerned in the matter.

#publicity.

Spot on mate.

It's a shame more can't see it like this rather than taking it as a personal attack on their precious beloved Sheffield United.

As much as I love the club, I wouldn't put my own reputation and career on the line if my advisers and management told me I had to put a statement out distancing myself from a convicted rapist.

The emphasis on convicted. Some of our fans don't seem able to grasp the concept that plenty of people didn't go over his case with a fine tooth comb as they didn't have an interest in doing.

Just like all of us will have no doubt called someone out at some point for a crime or misdemeanour they didn't actually commit.

And if she had said 'No' people like you would no doubt have called her out for being above her station and forgetting her roots.

With respect your post is largely bollocks imho.

I would agree with you if her roots were anything to do with the Blades but they’re not, she doesn’t and never has supported the RAWW.

I loved Jess as an athlete, she was top drawer ‘btw’.

You're suggesting Ennis did it for publicity ? Really? Lol

That's a new one...we did it to bail the Council out LOL

And what roots would they have been? Her lifelong support of the Blades? 'People like me would no doubt have called her out...'? You seem to know me better than I know myself.

Look, Ennis, Heaton and Charlie (#MeToo) Webster got their virtue-signalling in too early and have kept quiet since Ched was acquitted. Anyway, I've had enough of this 'pitchfork politics'. Jean Hatchett would be proud.

With respect, I note your difference of opinion and don't agree with it. (See? Not a 'largely bollocks' in sight.) :)

If I recall Heaton said that Ched should be allowed to resume his career, but he said he'd rather it wasn't with us.

We do have celebrity fans who didn't comment at all, eg Sean Bean and Joe Elliot. Good on them.

Ched - think his time for remorse and apologies are over. He's apologised publicly for his (legal) actions which seems to infer guilt in some people's eyes. Its also worth noting that plenty of people don't seem to realise he has been found not guilty. This wasn't publicised half as widely as his initial arrest and conviction.

Naming the stand after Jess Ennis was perhaps a bit odd at the time but taken in context SUFC were hardly alone at wanting to get a piece of the post Olympics reflected glory. What was to follow couldn't really be forseen.

In terms of Jess Ennis (and likewise Paul Heaton) - they expressed distaste at the thought club signing a (at the time) convicted rapist and would step away should that happen after being hounded by the local and national media along with pretty much anyone associated with the club. They don't really need to make further comment now. Its not altered my opinion of Ennis - fantastic sportswoman and representative of the city. I doubt she hates SUFC and will probably still have family who are supporters.

Charlie Webster on the other hand has a case to answer given the double standard of condemning SUFC but plastering pictures all over social media of her meeting Mike Tyson.

Are you saying he can't have those ambitions? I've got ambitions to play for England and play in the Premier League, and I'm 39 with knackered knees and no football talent.

Great points!
