It’s on the Jim White show between 10am and 1pm, reckon it’ll be on later in the show.
Jim said he interviewed Ched yesterday and he opens his heart about the difficulties and abuse he received and still receives.
He also talks about his ambition to play in the PL hopefully with Sheff Utd
And says he still has ambitions to play for the Wales national team.

Ambitions to play for Wales and in the Premier League.

As a player on the staff of a football club pressing for promotion to it, then of course all our players have the ambition to play in the Premier League.

It would be 'awkward' if he didn't hold that ambition.

I'm glad you picked up on that, I thought it was just me.
 
Just listened, he came across well I thought. Discussed some of his anxiety and injury issues too, natural after his ordeal I'd guess.

We'll have to see now what the general public have to say, considering the global condemnation he received upon release before the conviction was overturned.

Suspect he means better intelligence wise.
I think most players improve/ mature over time, however is Cheds body up it?
Does he still have the speed and strength? Probably not.

Agree he spoke well.
The only think he should have done is admit what he did was wrong and he was embarrassed and feels shame.
Let’s not forget, although he’s not guilty and not a criminal, totally deserves to play football at our club or any club
But his behaviour was still really poor and he should have quickly held his hand up about this.

I think he looks stronger than he did before, certainly not as quick though I agree.
 
Excellent point by Bob Mills talking about “the power of the media”.

When found guilty the media destroyed Cheds reputation, which was arguably correct and deserved at the time.
However once found not guilty, then there was a strange “media silence`’ on the case.

Bob thinks there should be more effort by the media to repair the damage they had done to Cheds reputation.

Simon Jordan also raising some fantastic points.

He says he felt uncomfortable with the conviction from the very beginning.
It’s not that Simon thinks Ched was innocent, he just thinks the evidence cant have been strong enough to prove without doubt that Ched was guilty.

Simon says he also didn’t like how various celebrities (mentioned Jessica Ennis) jumped on the band wagon throwing more petrol on the fire. He thinks Jessica Ennis should have made a statement after the not guilty acquittal, a kind of apology which would have helped Ched get on with his life.

Simon Jordan said that if he was Kevin McCabe he would have stripped Jessica Ennis' name off the stand as soon as she piped up and contributed hugely to putting the club in the position it was.

I couldn't agree more and it still winds me up thinking about it.

That we named a stand after her in the first place was totally pathetic, let alone generous and unnecessary. To then leave her name on it after she threw it back in our face was so pitifully weak and a total insult to ourselves. We did ourselves a huge disservice.

The silence from Ennis since he was found not guilty has been deafening.

Same goes for all the ignorant attention seeking preaching fuckwits who reported it so unfairly and said such vile, damaging things.

Think they're being a bit harsh on Jess. Other 'celebs' used it to boost their profile, but Jess was absolutely hounded by the Hatchet mob and didn't have much of a choice. I doubt she even wanted her name on the Stand in the first place.

Why?

He has always maintained the same story of events. The only thing he 'did wrong' that night was cheat on his girlfriend. In the eyes of the law, he has nothing to apologise for.

He spoke to Jim White yesterday for about 10 minutes in the Copthorne Hotel yesterday.

Main points were
He always believed and said he was innocent and he found it tough in prison.
Said he coped by taking each day as it comes
Said he’s got no bitterness about the events because he’s still young with a lot of life to look forward to.
Said he felt terrible for his family and friends who were receiving terrible abuse and shame at the time due to seeing his face on the front page of papers.
Mentioned that the media were making a big deal asking him to apologise but he again said it was weird because as he was innocent he strongly felt that he shouldn’t apologies but the media criticised him even more.
Said he is really grateful to SU and the fans for giving him the opportunity to resurrect his career.
Said he’s been unfortunate with injuries but really feels he’s now a better player and is still hopeful of playing in the PL, said SU are close to the playoffs so hopefully we would get promoted this season.
He still has ambitions to play for Giggs Wales team.
Said he still receives abuse at about 70% of away matches, said they call him rapist this and rapist that
But said it doesn’t let it bother him.
He also admitted that he’s never spoke to the media since leaving prison and he feels better to finally speak about it.

Speed and strength were never Cheds greatest attributes , the power in his right foot and his accuracy were. If he can build on his strength and speed ,the awareness which will come with age and experience ,and the quality of the players around him will make him a big part of us going forward.
 
Jess Ennis did what her publicity people, and sponsors, advised her to do. I'm sure they didn't expect the conviction to be overturned. I don't hold anything against Jess above anyone else who said he shouldn't be allowed to resume his career, including Cameron and Clegg. All those celebs jumping on the bandwaggon are just a sign of the increasingly puritanical moral climate we live in. Even if Ched doesn't end up playing for Wales or in the PL he's got his life back on track, and has another 4 or 5 years in the game.

David Walsh pointed out that Ched could only launch the appeal due to the wealth of his partner's father. Most people who are wrongly convicted of a crime have to live with the conviction for the rest of their lives.

We used her Olympic success for our own ends not to honour her. She even admitted she wasn't really a United fan.

Then under pressure from all corners made a statement distancing herself.

Imho it's more shameful the abuse a dedicated successful sportswoman, and more importantly thoroughly decent person, receives over this than anything else.

She owed us nothing.

True, it’s not personal, wouldn’t surprise me if Jess has no real opinion on Ched and has no feeling towards SU.

This is all down to her management team that have a duty to protect her reputation and sponsorship income,
Her links to SU could have been reallly damaging costing her £10000.s.

So her advisors took the professional line
And advised that they will release a statement clearly distancing themselves from SU due to the Ched situation.

This will have won her brownie points and made her even more of a fantastic role model, improving her value even more.

Put yourselves in Jess Ennis position, if your managements approached you to explain a time bomb was approaching
And you had 2 options, either have your hard earnt reputation severely damaged through no fault of your own or improve your reputation and sponsorship income even more.

So I don’t think anyone can blame Jessica Ennis, events meant she was backed in a corner and her advisors gave her ONE realistic option, which she took. In the real world everyone would do exactly the same.

And we owe her nothing - she's had plenty of time to admit her stance was wrong and the facts now prove it. As for her - extremely brief - Olympics success, she's back to doing what she does best, hoovering up money from Santander and Vitality.

As our next match is against Brentford, it's worth remembering that her one and only game as a 'fan' was v. Brentford on 16th April, 2013.

'She never asked for the stand to be named after her'? There's always the word 'No'. But then, she's used to inhabiting that bastion of moral rectitude, athletics.
