Che Adams

Although he plays a different position, Adams reminds me of Kyle Walker with his power and athleticism and his desire to do well.
I can really see him turning into a top pro but I fear that the big boys will be sniffing around if we don't go up this year

Come on blades, sign him up !

He is the latest off the 'non league conveyer'.

Charlie Austin, Dwight Gayle, Jamie Vardy, Che Adams.
One of them isn't in the premier league... Yet...

Get him tied down, or let him take us there. Or in a few years we'll be bemoaning the loss of yet another young talent.
But at least this time it will be for a record transfer fee (for us)

I haven't seen the replay but has anybody got footage of the save from Tim Krul from Adams' shot? It looked like a fantastic save live.

Here is a still of it. No idea how he got back as he is clearly heading the wrong way in this image

I couldn't get to the Newcastle game, and I've read the various comments about Adams, all appear positive which is heartening. The one thing I haven't seen commented on (apologies if someone has mentioned this already) is the pass from Adams to McNulty which enabled MM the space and opportunity to score. Added to which, once Adams made the pass he continued to run in anticipation of a return pass from McNulty which would have left Krul in no-man's land and Adams would have deservedly finished.

Comparing both clubs is interesting, they've just bought a player for £14 million, McClaren seems all over the place with the club's idea of pre-season preparation, and you just know they're in for another season of mid-table lethargy. Newcastle just can't seem to get it right, and this a club with close on 50 thousand per home match. In that respect we are a long way apart, but then they're a single club city so perhaps it's not that surprising they get crowds of that size. Yet with a new manager we've begun to see possibilities. Far too early to make any realistic assessment of course, and I'll wait until we're approaching xmas before deciding whether things have changed for the good. But in Adams we could have a genuine talent (hasn't he bulked up!) who has the physical attributes to handle any defender, as well as good instinctive talents that excite any supporter. I'll congratulate Clough for signing Adams even if I'm in a minority for doing so.

As for what this game tells us, well not a great deal really. Freeman's goal was superb and classy, but there'll be harder games ahead, we'll need to show resilience and grit, and then, and only then, will whatever quality we have shine through. It's too early to say whether we've bought wisely, and Sammon is a season long loan (quite canny in my view) so anticipation is high. Now, only the defence to sort out, and possibly midfield too, and who knows what will follow? Promotion is the obvious conclusion, but it's early, early days.....so to use an often heard cliche, there's a lot of water to pass under the bridge before I'll feel overly confident about our future. Here's to good times ahead UTB

Che reminds me of Wayne Rooney the way he drops deep for the ball then turns & runs at defenders, L1 sides are quite rigid in formation & will struggle to cope with him, with an intelligent striker creating space for him I think Che could quite easily bag 15-20s goals this season.

He seems to have got stronger over the summer. Won plenty of physical battles with Williamson and Taylor and also barged down Daryl Janmaat on one occasion. I hope the fitness staff can find a good balance between strength and pace because if he gets it right, he'll cause problems to defences in all the divisions. Huge potential.

I don't really pay much attention to the showbiz of Division 1 but istm a possible, or even likely, scenario is Adams ends up bench-warming on some astronomical wage.

The power and pace are abundantly clear, but he also has confidence and a few tricks. More than just a battering ram.

Your choice is regular first team football in Division 2 or, for now 3, or irregular and infrequent first team football but in Division 1, and on 3 or 4 times the wages.

An agent has a financial interest in scenario 2.

As a player what would you do?

Wouldn't worry about him leaving just yet.

To bring things back to reality, he hasn't even passed his driving test yet!
He'll think he owes United something, you can tell he's a grounded kid.

Got the makings of a legend here.

Was thinking exactly the same thing this morning. Reminds me of a young Rooney very much.
However, the development has to continue and the pitfalls are out there waiting for him.
One thing is sure, he has talent in pace, strength, enthusiasm and a simplistic approach (at the moment). I've also seen awareness and off the ball qualities develop if yesterday was anything to go on.

Take the wages it's the only sensible thing to do, you're only one injury away from the end of your career.

He's a talent, alright, but he'll leave, as all good young players do. It's not just United, kids from Southampton, Burnley, Leicester, everywhere are routinely snaffled up by richer clubs just because they can. Extending his contact will mean jack shit when the 'big boys' come calling.

Let's just enjoy him while we can, and hope United have put the usual 'safeguards' in place.

Like agreeing a 90% sell-on clause goes to Alfreton. :D

That would be very United-like sending a sell on fee to Alfreton instead of Ilkeston.

Yeah I am sure his agent will leap at the chance of that...

Maybe this is the opportunity for Morgs to be utilised in "softening up" those slimy scumbag leeches that are agents, a bit !! In negotiations, morgs has a pre-meeting "discussion" with the leech ( agent) and explains how dangerous the world can be .......

When have you ever known Utd to have the "appropriate safeguards" in place to prevent the Club losing out on a good player ?

We have had complete knobs negotiating contracts since before I was born centuries ago !! o_O

Yeah, which idiot sold Jordan Slew, Jacob Mellis, Lee Morris, Wayne Quinn and Curtis Woodhouse?

Amazed we haven't got this kid signed-up & secured on a long-term deal yet (but sincerely hoping that talks are going on behind the scenes as we speak).

He's the real deal!

Reed has signed a new contract and that seems to have slipped under most peoples radar?

I'd imagine that's because he hasn't really shown what he can do and the potential he has to the extent that Che has. As a fan watching both players I'm a lot more confident in Che, to the point where I think he could well reach the premier league within 2 or 3 years. I just don't see that with Reed, he's done nothing in a game to even remotely catch my attention so far. That's not to say the lad doesn't have potential, i'm sure he does but personally, from what i've seen, I think Che is much superior to Reed in most departments.

That's Reed 3 years, DCL 3 years, Diego 2 years, all during this pre-season.
Che next hopefully. Four years would make most sense given his stellar potential (& already proven ability).
It'd be madness to leave things to fate by leaving him on his existing contract.

He reminds me a lot of Stan Collymore CB,with his running at/past defenders and shooting from distance, plus an eye for a pass..great prospect, and I think he'll have a big season and maybe force his way in to the starting 11.

He's getting better by the minute, at this rate he'll be playing for Real Madrid by the end of the week.

In fact the more I think about 4-3-3 at home the more I like it!

On recent form I would go with...

Long

Freeman - Collins - Jay M - MacFadz

Done - Bash - Murph

Adams
Sammon - Sharp

With Adams sitting centrally just behind S&S as he is able to pick the ball up from MF and run with it with great effect.

Could be on to a winner at home

Thoughts?
