Why is this lad not an automatic starter ? Yes I know we played one of the poorest sides for ages but the way he plays with his pace, style and intelligence is something else. If you didnt go today look at the way he took his 3rd goal albeit a one on one with the keeper and contrast with everyone else in the side even Billy who has missed a few one one ones recently
I would start him up front with Billy instead of Done or Scougall and its a shame he is now away with England and misses the Chessie match

Every time he's had an opening in the first team along comes fucking international duty to close the door again.

I'd say to him that if he just works and closes down as hard as Done then he WILL become an automatic pick, there'd be no reason for him not to be.

He'd be starting for me anyway, he gives us more quality in the final third which I think would outweigh Done's work rate. That said, look how he got his third goal - from closing down a defender, in the last minute of the game.

Because we are 11 league games unbeaten. If it ain't broke...

I thought some of his play was selfish at times, but he certainly went for stuff that no other player on the pitch would have done. The burst through three players for freemans goal was lovely.

He was outstanding today and answers the questions from those who ask why he was signed ahead of giving our youth a go.
Chapman is quality.
Reed (albeit in a different position) isn't.

Man v Boy.

Nice to have selection problems like this. However, whilever we are winning you don't change the team unless you have to.

This lad has bags of potential. Hold on to him for the season and the omens will be good.

Game changing quality at this level, fantastic loan by Wilder

Listened to Chapman's interview earlier. Few bits he said:

  • He's being tried out as a striker in training - this is good management by Wilder
  • Says he could partner Billy up front and they could get a lot of goals together - I agree with this
  • Says the main thing he's learning here is what to do out of possession - this encourages me

It's obviously Done's place in the team he's got his eye on, and I do think him and Sharp would score a lot of goals together and work better together. Done usually needs the sort of chances that typically fall Sharp's way to score goals, Chapman doesn't. On top of that Chapman is also better at creating so Sharp could benefit even more. It's quite an exciting prospect.

I always expected him to improve physically as the season goes on and be a useful player for us, but if he also improves his game without the ball and work rate as he seems to be, then he'll surely find himself in the team and considering some of the ability he's showing, he could be more than just useful, he could be instrumental.

Hopefully he gets in the team quite soon so Boro aren't tempted to recall him. Because I think he has the potential to make a greater impact in that position than anyone else.

He'll be starting for Middlesborough in the premier league in the next 2 seasons I think. A class above in terms of quality

Its a really difficult equation for me, bearing in mind the high press has been the hallmark of Wilder's team. The equation: Will replacing Done with a technically superior player, who's potentially more clinical, outweigh what Done gives the team out of possession? If Ricky's comments above come to fruition, then the answer's an obvious one as we could still have an effective high press with Chapman in the first eleven. I'm sure Wilder will proceed with caution due to current results, but Done's injury may force his hand.

Lets calm down and see how he goes against a team that isn't as bad as the Dog & Duck reserves on Sunday. Hope he goes on to be a gem for us but will reserve judgement until he plays against a top 6 side.
