I guess Chelsea should have fully focused on their game rather than completing the Werner deal.

Football clubs can do more than one thing at a time.

I forgot about all the vital petitions being signed to make the deal happen – it’s a good job Chelsea have those fans helping secure the deals.

The point you’ve missed is that the club has shown no sign that it remotely supports what you’re calling for. This isn’t a West Ham situation where the fans backed a club campaign – this is an attempt to do something at odds with the club, which has moved on.

I called it a distraction – it is a distraction.

So you think Wilder and SUFC would turn down/reject the chance to play again from 43 minutes on with a 1-0 lead?

We don't know what the club is or is not doing, hopefully there is some movement behind the scenes. I'm sure if this happened to Manchester United they would be doing something.

'On the 17th June 2020 Sheffield United faced Aston Villa in the Premier League, a match which has huge ramifications at the top and bottom of the table.

After 42 minutes, the Aston Villa goalkeeper took the ball over the line yet a goal was not awarded by Hawkeye due to a technological failure by their supposedly infallible system, and VAR did not intervene despite clear evidence from Sky cameras that this was a 'clear and obvious error'.

The game finished 0-0, which will dent Sheffield United's chances of an unprecedented European finish and damage Aston Villa's relegation rivals at a potentially massive financial cost.

Therefore the game should be replayed from 43 minutes with Sheffield United leading 1-0 and the previous game struck off from the records.

There is precedent for the invalidation of such results. In 2005, the bureau of the FIFA World Cup organising committee reached a decision to invalidate the result of a World Cup qualification match between Uzbekistan and Bahrain on the basis of a 'technical error by the referee of the match'.

We the undersigned believe that in the interest of fairness and sporting integrity that a full independent investigation is launched to these events to ensure they do not happen again, as that the English Premier League should mandate that the match be replayed under these conditions.'

Wait till S6 get wind of this 🥺

If that’s what you believe, I can’t do anything to change your view. And if they are doing stuff in the background as you think, it’s probably because the image of doing something publicly would look rather embarrassing...

Let it go.

If anything, the players should have made more of a fuzz to halt play and perhaps VAR might have had longer to think about it and letting common sense prevail.

Agree entirely with your second point.

FMBlade1

At least wait until the end of the season.

Unless Blades win their remaining 9 games then the poor decision has not cost 'Champions League Qualification', as you put it.

Oh of course, I hope this mistake is redundant. I just wonder whether taking this up later will lose momentum and will likely be less successful than the 1% that is there.

This is a wind up isn't it ? If not, please give you head a wobble

I guess Uzbekistan should have just 'let it go' back in 2005.

Their match was more important than this one, and they got a replay so why not us?

We lost a play-off semi final a good few years back on penalties away at cardiff after Michael Chopra equalised from an offside position......

Can we get a replay too?

I love your passion, but in reality a petition isn't the way forward.

Given the fixture congestion - especially if we have a cup run - an extra game is in no one's interest.

However, if we get to the end of the season and this mistake has ramifications (for us or for relegated sides) that potentially lead to court cases and millions (tens of millions?) in compensation from the PL - at this point would a replay become a more realistic likelihood IMO. One thing the Tevez Affair illustrated is that money counts far more in the PL's decision making process than fairness - or even the integrity of the game.

Let it play out and see what happens.

To be clear, hope this result doesn't have ramifications and we win all our remaining games and that this thread is consigned to the scrapheap.

If not, then I'm sure this will resurface. I do wonder whether the phrase 'strike while the iron is hot' will apply here though and whether legal actions/petitions will be less successful then than now.

Yes, we were on the receiving end of a gigantic mistake.

Yes, I would expect, nay demand, that this is looked into thoroughly by the relevant parties in order that we can i) be told the full truth and ii) avoid a recurrence for some other unfortunate team in the future (or let’s be right, probably us again!)

No, I do not want a replay of the game - whatever you think about the decision and how ‘robbed’ we were, there is no way that you can replay the game now - the time for the decision to be rectified was immediately - that didn’t happen.

I really think we should move on and allow football as a whole to sort this out - asking for replays seems a bit desperate to be honest.

I said on the day and I’ll say again now - a draw was the most we deserved on Wednesday - forget that we could have won if the goal stood, we frankly were poor and only deserved a point.

If we were to replay the game, villa would probably fancy their chances of beating us.

There's often strength in striking when the iron is hot. The question remains whether it's hotter now, in the wake of the foul up - or at the end of the season when the ramifications of the foul up start costing clubs millions (if that happens).

If it does, the lawyers will have a field day - and (unlike Tevez) the PL are front and centre. It's their foul up - so it would be them stumping up the compo. If the figures get high enough I could see the PL requiring a replay.

Too many unknowables at this stage - and we've bigger fish to fry like getting our shit together after a generally poor performance on Weds. Things we can control - unlike the longer term implications of Weds foul up.

Signed. Not expecting them to do the right thing, but even if it starts a debate on the usage of VAR and "goal line technology" then that's a win for me. Definitely needs investigating if it doesn't work, does make me wonder what the situation would have been if it was a generic top six team such as man United etc...

Imagine the scenario - we make Europe on goal difference, Aston Villa stay up on goal difference. West Ham get relegated and, along with the other relegated clubs, mount a legal challenge in light of this incident. The PL considers the challenage and decides to replay the game. Villa win 2-0, mkaing no difference to the position at the bottom but the defeat means we fall out of the European places in favour of Man United.

A replay might potentially be seen as a fair way of settling this if it were competition football.

If you think that's funny have a look at this:

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...omen-u19-replay-norway-referee-penalty-howler

If they can do it, why not us?

Because in both of those games the referee got the rules of the game wrong. In the game the other night it was just a howler down to technology. but taking the howler out of it, it was just a poor decision. You can be upset about the injustice but petitions to replay? Come on.

the other thing to consider is where does this end? What if you were 2-0 down with 5 minutes to play? Would you want a replay then? 3-0 with 10 minutes to play? 4 down with 20 minutes? Sides would be clamouring to replay games because of any contentious decisions which involves a goal if this was entertained seriously even for a split second.

Our frustration shouldn't be directed at each other but what's more likely to get us Champions League football:

A) A 0-0 draw

B) A replay from 43 minutes with us 1-0 up

So what if we ask for a replay, the Premier league decide OK, we lose said replay and finish level on points but lose out on goal difference, take the point and move on
